As a beginner who was advancing quickly, I wanted a light paddle at a reasonable price which balanced power and control. If I had to trade off, I would emphasize control. It’s been a few months and I play 4-5 times a week. I am very happy with my choice and happy I didn’t buy a very inexpensive beginner paddle because I didn’t need to trade up as I improved.     • A fine intermediate to advanced paddle

As a more than beginner player, I felt that my game was being limited by the inexpensive beginner paddle that I learned and was playing with. I decided it was time for an upgrade to a more serious paddle to improve my game. I did a ton of research of the now seemingly thousands of paddles available these days. Through all of my research , the Onix Z5 paddle seemed to consistently be one of the top rated paddles on the market at that price point. So I decided to buy it and wowsa! Did it make a difference in my game! After a short learning curve getting used to the new paddle, I found out a lot of what I’d been missing; control, spin; top and back-spin, accuracy , and serving improved by leaps and bounds and after a month or so of play I’ve gone from the one nobody was psyched to play with to the one that people want to play with. The paddle is mid weight, thin, but feels light. The only issue I had was that the grip was a bit small for my hand so I bought some over-wrap tape and double overlapped the grip to build it up a bit. Man what a difference! I can see myself playing with this paddle for quite some time until I take the next step up in my game. For now the Onix Z5 is definitely the paddle of choice for me! ... show more

This is a great paddle. The bounce off the face, the balance of the handle and paddle, are great. Power, finesse, dinks, control. I've only played with wooden and other paddles like this one. I just took up pickleball a couple months ago and purchased this paddle after playing for a few weeks. I think this paddle is good for someone at my proficiency level. I tried a couple other paddles and feel like this one has the biggest "sweet spot" that allows for less precise hitting which occurs especially for beginners. Great beginners paddle with a solid sweet spot knock upon contact with ball. Light weight paddle and easy to control for all situations. The paddle is long & wide which provides better reach when playing defense and getting to the ball. I really enjoy the paddle. I'm a beginner. This is my first paddle. Very comfortable grip even after playing a couple of hours. I can put spin on the ball. Can't really talk about sweetspot since I don't know what that is.
