Description

ODYSSEY Batteries Automotive and LTV Battery delivers the massive starting power, rapid recovery and amazing deep cycling capability that vehicle demand. Whether for everyday or emergency use, vehicles are loaded with more electronics than would have been imaginable just a few years ago. And hobbyist vehicles now include more specialties and specialized power demands than ever before. Fortunately, the ODYSSEY battery has been designed to keep up with the changes. Because its plates are made of pure virgin lead (unlike the lead alloy in most batteries), ODYSSEY packs more plates in. More plates mean more plate surface area, and much more power. Twice the overall power and three times the life of conventional batteries, up to 400 cycles at 80 percentage depth of discharge. These batteries are built for a range of performance from everyday vehicles, classic and antique cars, high performance cars, 4x4 and Off-Road, to modified vehicles. Its construction consists of pure virgin lead plates for maximum surface area and optimized recycling, AGM (absorbed glass mat) design that eliminates acid spills, high conductivity, corrosion- resistant tin-plated brass terminals, high integrity terminal seal, a sealed design resulting in gases recycled internally, a self-regulating relief valve, tough flame retardant cell containers and robust internal cell connections to prevent vibration damage. ODYSSEY batteries beat spiral-wound. Compared to spiral-wound batteries of equal size, ODYSSEY batteries pack 15 percentage more plate surface area into the case. Avoiding the dead space between cylinders in six-pack designs means ODYSSEY batteries deliver more power and 40 percentage more reserve capacity.

  • Small & light-weight. Trouble-free starting.
Starts my 6-cylinder engine with ease, year-round. Less than half the size & weight of my OEM battery. Hopefully won't leak, like my OEM battery did! The long shelf-life means you should be able to buy this a bit in advance of when you think you'll need it (I wish I had). The manufacturer also sells a range of mounting accessories, BTW. ---- Update ---- After nearly 3 years of service, I'm replacing this with a larger model. I had some slow starts, last winter, and it turns out this battery is a couple sizes smaller than the battery manufacturer recommends for my car. Odyssey has a PDF on their website which lists their recommendations for different makes, models, and years of vehicles. I should note that I also left it disconnected for 5 months, last year. To the battery's credit, my car still started after I reconnected it. Normal batteries would be dead after 2-3 weeks, but these batteries can really hold a charge! Note that leaving them disconnected for such long periods of time does tend to shorten their life, somewhat. ... show more

  • Does not fit
I dont see how Amazon and Odyssey can say that this battery fits a 2012 Honda Civic. It's not even close, it's about 3 inches too short and about 1 inch too wide. It wont fit into the compartment and there is no way to tie it down because its wider than the tie down hole positions.

  • Relatively strong battery you can mount just about anywhere.
Update, July 2020: This battery is unbelievable! It's still working perfectly -originally purchased and installed in 2012, and it has survived some significant events! The 2003 S2000 I originally installed this battery in was totaled in a horrendous wreck (ABS failure due to the failure of the racing calipers I had installed on the car). The car was stopped by a direct frontal collision with a tree 100+ feet down a mountain side. That was in 2016, and the car sat in the insurance lot for 3 months before the car was shipped back to me so that I could salvage all of the high performance parts from the wreck. I didn't even think the battery was going to be salvageable considering the force of the frontal impact, the fact the battery sat in the car for months after the wreck with no charging (and who knows how many shorted wires). Nevertheless, I took the battery out, it tested good (a little low), I hooked it up the to the Odyssey certified charger - and amazingly, it was ready for further service! I used the battery in a project '92 Civic VX, used it to jump my 2011 335d (as in Diesel!), and eventually decided that given the age of the battery - I would not install it in my project S2000 (2002 S2000 purchased in 2016 and completed in 2019), over concerns it would eventually fail. I instead installed it in my Husqvarna zero-turn-radius mower, that loves to eat batteries (3 batteries between 2015 and 2018). I ran the mower all of last year and all of this year to date, with only one charging - and this battery just keeps running like a champ! When my replacement S2000's battery dies - I will replace that battery with another one of these batteries. I have the custom mount for the car - and I look forward to installing this battery! I think it goes without saying (and you can read below where I emphasize this) if you own one of these batteries, you need to own one of the certified chargers that are designed to charge and condition this specific type of battery - and use it periodically. If you do this - the battery will run for several years beyond what any other conventional or AGM car battery type will normally function. If you charge this with a standard charger - you might as well be throwing the battery away. Think of it as part of the price of ownership. Besides - the computer-controlled chargers specified for this battery will charge essentially ANY standard car battery (not hybrid of full electric car batteries, of course). I think all of the bad reviews for this battery are the result of not using a certified charger periodically. Why would you choose this battery (or this type of battery)? 1) You need a battery with high specific output relative to its size (limited space available in a custom installation). 2) You need a battery that can be located in a compartment with low ventilation. 3) You need a battery that can be mounted in any orientation - but will not leak (a custom application that would otherwise prohibit the use of a wet or gel cell). Other than for these circumstances - is this battery worth the cost? For an every day OEM replacement - No. Application is key. Here is my specific application and experience with this battery: I own a Honda S2000, and I was planning to relocate my battery to the spare tire location in the trunk. This relocation requires a battery that will never leak and does not require ventilation. This is precisely the flexibility the Odyssey line of "dry cell" batteries can provide. I have not completed the installation of the battery in that location as of yet due to the untimely failure of the OEM style battery, and the fact I needed a working battery without delay. The above mentioned custom install will take time I did not have, which necessitated using the 925 in essentially the OEM battery location. However, due to the fact the 925 was not the same size and shape as the OEM battery (5" wide, 9" tall, 8.75" long for OEM vs 6.8" wide x 5.1" tall and 7.2" long). The base of the OEM battery (and tray) is narrow and long and the battery is tall. The PC925 in contrast has almost a square footprint and has a low profile (a little more than half as tall as the OEM Group 51). I custom installed a commercially available billet mount (from West Coast Battery) and used it to replace the OEM battery tray. The engine bay install was very clean and will more than suffice until I have the time to install the battery in the above-mentioned intended location. Starting power is great in the heat of the summer and cool temperatures of the fall and winter in North Florida - and the battery demonstrates a clear advantage (for it's size and weight) over wet and some gel cell batteries in these conditions. However, the Odyssey does not have any advantage relative to weight when it comes to Cold Cranking Amps (CCAs). The battery is not any lighter than a wet cell RELATIVE to CCAs output (CCAs per pound). However, this battery provides more absolute cranking power per pound in temperatures consistently above the freezing mark. The lack of a cold weather cranking advantage is one of three main reasons I rated this battery at 4 stars. If the performance was linearly above a comparable wet or gel cell in the CCA department, I would have been able to save about 8 lbs and gone with a smaller Odyssey battery. My car spends most of its time in Florida - however, I do travel to colder climates and therefore had to go with the 925 to cover me in those environments. In short - I hoped I would have been able to go with a lighter battery, but unfortunately there is little weight savings for the cost if you need the CCAs below 32F. The battery does provide an advantage in that it has a lower center of gravity for my specific application - and it is more compact than a comparable wet or gel cell. I have discovered it is almost essential that you purchase a quality charger/maintainer in order to maintain and extend the life of this expensive battery. This means: on top of the premium price you have to pay for this battery - you have to shell out even more to purchase a battery charger that meets the specific charging requirements of this battery. This is a little hard to swallow with reason because logic would then dictate you would also have to install a specific type of alternator to charge the battery as well. Regardless, the Odyssey branded (OMAX) line of chargers are also overly expensive - and are only designed to charge Odyssey batteries. Thankfully, there is a small list of reasonably priced alternative chargers that are approved for the Odyssey line of batteries. Search the Odyssey website for the list. The need to purchase an expensive charger is the second reason why I rated this battery at 4 stars. The cost of the battery itself is the third reason. The need to purchase a specific charger/conditioner is even more important if you only drive short distances, and/or if this battery is subjected to several start loads relative to charge cycles - otherwise it will die prematurely. I recently bought the SOLAR PL2208 Pro-Logix 8 Amp Automatic Battery Charger from Amazon to cover these duties, as it was the least expensive approved (quality) charger available. This charger is rated at 8 Amps max, so don't expect it to charge a very low battery in short order though. However, it is $30 cheaper than the 12 Amp Odyssey charger and can charge more than just an Odyssey battery (unlike the Odyssey line of expensive chargers). In short - it will more than just help maintain my Odyssey battery. ... show more

Replacement for: 2005 Subaru STI - Starts up like an OEM battery (no issues/struggle) - Vehicle is equipped with aftermarket stereo components (500 rms watt monoblock & 400 rms watt 4-channel amplifiers) - Test: Went outside in the 25* temperature, turned on the HID headlights, with the stereo and heater on, and the car started up just fine! - 10lbs reduced from the engine bay (~26.5lbs vs oem's 36.5lb battery) - Hopefully, the 380 CCA will be 'strong' enough for the colder temperatures, especially if the car has been sitting for few days. ... show more

  • Buyer beware about this battery brand and PartsHawk seller
Properly, I was in the same boat of some people before me buying battery online to save some money from local retail store. I came from optima brand, which I used for 7+ years before it got replaced. This time, I would like to try out different brand and I found Odyssey got better rating compared to Optima. So I bought it through Amazon third party. It worked for first 1.5 year and got weaker start after that. At first, I tried go through manufacture site for the battery warranty. But they said I purchased mine through a reseller, so I must contact the reseller for the warranty purpose. I thought they tried to push the responsivity out, but it was written on their site about the warranty. So I went back to PartsHawk and wrote them an email to get help with this. No response at all until I went through amazon to get help. So at the end, they said it was about 2 years old order, they cannot take it or replace it since the battery has been discontinued. Now I'm stuck with $200 battery that I could use only 1 year 10 months, worse than cheap battery that I could buy from autozone or else where for less than $100. ... show more
