This is a well made cast iron grill. It is heavy grade, though not unmanageable; pretty much what I was expecting and will probably last a lifetime. I use it on a gas stovetop and it cooks very well. The sidewalls and channels on both sides do a good job of capturing and containing any grease - including when cooking bacon. It also cleans up fairly easily. It is cast iron so you do have to treat it to maintain it but this is no different from the other cast iron cooking gear I own and use every day. If I had a complaint it would be that the casting grains are very sharp and shred anything I try to wipe it with but I expect this will be less of an issue as I use it more. Overall, this is highly recommended, a good size and weight, and it will get a lot of use. ... show more

We have lots of cast iron from several companies but I had never heard of Nutrichef before. (Was going to go with another brand that starts with "L"; (no not the word that means "big hunting cabin" but rather "hero of folklore" :)] Turns our that latter company and Nutrichef use the EXACT same images to promote what looks to be the exact same griddle. I'm not sure if either of them are the manufacturer or if both are rebranding this item....nonetheless, for the couple $$ savings I opted to take a chance and go with Nutrichef since they looked to be identical. Item arrived safe and sound and well packaged. It immediately went to the workshop where with multiple pads of 40 grit sandpaper on the random orbit sander and lots of elbow grease, I knocked off most of the pebbly texture on the flat side of the griddle. I used a couple finer grits to remove strike marks and was left with a greatly improved, albeit bare metal, surface. So it went into the oven at 350 for a few rounds of coconut oil seasoning and then another one or two at 400. Tested this puppy out 4 or 5 times already in the last 2 weeks all on an flat top electric range. After a learning curve on getting the elements at the right temp this thing worked like a charm!! So great for bacon, pancakes and grilled cheese. I have only used the flat side...and really hardly see using the other side, but could not be more pleased with this thing. It is a beast but if anything, if I had any complaint, it would be that it could be perhaps another 2" wider so one could make 6 decent sized pancakes at a time. That, however, would add considerable heft and probably retract from any advantage gained by the extra surface area... so, all in all as this is it is one great addition to my cast iron fetish and will certainly get lots of use!! ... show more

Heavy duty, quality griddle. It works with an induction stovetop bridge configuration, despite the fact that it does not lie flat on my stovetop. The only drawback is the risk of scratches to my glass top. And breakage, too, I suppose. This is super heavy. I wish it was lighter in construction. The edges are smooth, but still rough enough to scratch is slide around quickly. ... show more

We cook in cast iron a lot, so I was stoked to receive this griddle. I love that it’s a grill Pan AND a griddle. I’m contemplating when I can make pancakes and not be considered a “phone it in” meal, JUST so I can try that side out! One thing that tickled us was that it came with proper seasoning instructions- we’ve always winged it, and hoped for the best. That little how-to was very informative, and a great touch! We’re a big family (7!), so we always have to cook in batches. At 19.96”L x 10.11”W, this griddle measures in about average for us. Our maiden run was burgers in the stove top - the grill Pan performed as expected - hotter in some spots and cooler in others because we were straddling two burners. The real test will be when we go camping and cook over the open fire - I can’t wait! ... show more

    • Gritty, bumpy surface

Not sure the best way to wash it to avoid rusting, and I was expecting a smooth surface and its really gritty and bumpy, so on the grilling side chicken and fish with skin definitely stick without oil, but it fits perfectly across 2 burners on my tiny apt electric stove, and grills beautifully. Haven't used the flat griddle side yet, but I expect it to do what its supposed to. Tho I am concerned about the gritty, bumpy surface. Its not smooth at all! Will be a bummer if pancakes, crepes, and eggs stick! But if they do, I'll deal... won't be the worst thing in the world. For the great price, and the fact that it fits my stovetop, its probably good enough for my purposes. I read that another user sanded off all the bumps and grits to make it smooth and then seasoned the pan and it is smooth now and works like a non-stick charm. Which is good to know... but I don't have the equipment, time, know-how, or commitment to pull that off. Would certainly have been preferable if it had come that way!!! ... show more

Heavy, thick, cast iron pan that looks to be able to last generations. It was my first time seasoning a cast iron pan. I did it with flax seed oil I found at Whole Foods in their supplement area. It wasn’t too hard to do. When I made pancakes, a light coat of cooking oil spray every 3-4 rounds was all that was needed to keep them from sticking. Clean up was super easy too. I didn't ever use this, but just returned it, so I can't really evaluate it based on use. However, the description says it's coated cast iron, & as far as I could tell, it wasn't coated. It still required all of the seasoning & special care of regular cast iron, which I didn't want to mess with. Also, it was so heavy that I couldn't handle it very well. I know cast iron is heavy, but I wasn't expecting it to be quite this heavy. For those reasons, I had to return it. It may very likely be a quality product, but it didn't meet my needs. ... show more
