Style: Double Score with BT Headphones
I bought this as my first real metal detector. I had no idea what I was going to get for the wife and me. She liked the minelab stuff...I liked this one. As the starter packs were within $40 of each other...I got one of each. The Nokta Double Score is as easy to use as they claim it is. There are a lot of settings to fool with for a newbie, but you don't have to. You can get out of the car, turn it on, choose your mode and roll with it. You will have coin in hand in no time. I have found jewelry, coins (clad and silver), toys, tools and a near endless supply of '70s pull tabs...more on that later. The unit is light but feels substantial and the adjustments make it a snap to get set for your comfort. The water prooffedness was not a big deal to me, but I have had the coil submerged many times with no issue. Odds of me swimming with it are slim to none. We have so enjoyed our new hobby...and I don't regret my choice of buying two different comparable units from the different manufacturers. From what I can tell it is mostly personal preference anyway. When I get ready to upgrade...barring something crazy...I'll be getting a Nokta. The wife will not...that's cool. We are very competitive anyway. Now the pull tab thing. I had no idea that these were as much instruments as anything else. The numbers...VDI...are cool, but it is all about the sound. You learn pretty quick that you can tell how round things are...how sharp they are...how big they are...deep...pointed...corroded. All that you can kinda read if you practice and this is where my Double Score really shines. The wife finds lots of things too and she can tell too, but I have to say I am better at the identifying "what it is" thing. Now...the pull tabs are like this. Pennys, dimes, quarters, fifty cent pieces and even dollars...clad stuff...sound like what they are. Nickels sound like pull tabs...see the issue? I can "notch" those out.... metal detectorists talk for weeding them out, but then you'd weed out a lot of nickels and the older the pull tab... the more nickel-like it sounds so I am really trying to get that sound thing right. OK...this is a fantastic machine, and I think it will keep me busy for a while. I'll move up eventually, but I'm wringing all the goody out of my Nokta Double core first. It has all the features you need to get started with a bit of room to grow. If you are looking for a relaxing outdoor hobby...it is the perfect gift for yourself...or your wife... ... show more
