  • Indoor vs outdoor grill
Let’s be honest here: An electric indoor grill cannot duplicate the taste of a charcoal-fired outdoor grill. Period. End of story. I have a Ninja Foodi Smart XL Indoor Grill, a Cosori Aeroblaze Indoor Grill, and a Hamilton Beach Indoor Grill, Model # 25360. All are electric, of course, and all profess to simulate outdoor grilling; I presume they mean taste-wise, as in charbroiled over a hot flame. At least that’s my impression based on their advertising and promotional hype. There is a good reason to have one of these appliances, though: You can’t always go outside and grill your food; perhaps it’s raining or just too cold. You might even be out of charcoal. So, indoor grill it is. Despite that convenience, in my several years experience with these devices, the meat does not come out any better tasting than if it was cooked in a skillet on the stove. It may even be better due to the crusting effect of frying on a smooth, hard surface. There won’t be any “grill marks” per se—unless you use a cast iron skillet with grill grooves—, but you won’t notice any difference. For what it’s worth, I bought a third-party Grill Mate grill for the Ninja Foodi, touted to leave substantial grill marks, yet I found no discernible difference in taste of a steak “grilled” with or without that optional accessory. For presentation looks, it’s fine, but not necessarily better. The one thing the Ninja Foodi Smart XL Indoor Grill has that ups the game is the smart thermometer. Insert the probe into the meat, set the desired internal temperature, and the unit will shut off when that temperature is reached. Pretty darned cool! (Note: You can do that with any meat you put on any grill when you use an external smart thermometer. I have one of those, too, and they work great.) So, don’t get roped into thinking that an indoor grill of any kind, make, or model will give you outdoor grill taste—it just doesn’t happen! You need an open flame from hot coals to produce that kind of quality grilling. And if you ask me, that’s not even contestable. (Go ahead and ask me.) Remember—however you do it, don’t over-cook your food. Enjoy! ... show more

  • The indoor grill
Looking for that seared crust on a steak that you can only get on a searing outside grill? Well look no further for an inside replacement because this thing gets hot. it will smoke with hamburger patties, so have it under your hood but it really does a good job with steaks and hamburger patties. Be patient it does take about 10 minutes for to preheat and it is kinda loud. It sounds like a jet plane is taking off in your kitchen so if you want something ultra quiet and instantly hot in two seconds, this is not it, but it is a beast and the best indoor grill I have tried yet, and I have tested many of them. oh yeah also really easily clean. The inserts are dishwasher safe and ceramic coated. I placed aluminum foil under the grilling tray, so it clean up is even easier. ... show more

  • I'm a happy, happy cook!!
This appliance is absolutely the BEST! My old countertop grill never was really non- stick and was a bear to clean. Not this beauty! It cleans up with no effort. I saw this refurbished Ninja and had to give it a try. I love the Ninja brand as I have their 6 in 1 slow cooker. When it arrived.....right on time by UPS.....it was absolutely pristine. It works flawlessly, though I must admit I've only grilled twice (burgers once and italian sausages once) and air fried homemade egg rolls. My only suggestion to you....if you're doing cheeseburgers, put the cheese on after you're done grilling, turn the unit off and close the lid to melt the cheese. My cheese was puffy and crispy. 🤷♀️ The only thing i didnt get with it was the recipe booklet, but it's easy to find online, so no big deal. I love this Ninja and I'm over the moon at the price I paid for it. Don't hesitate if you're on the fence. ... show more

  • I am SO pleased
This thing is great! I just used it for the first time yesterday to make steaks for lunch. If you aren’t the best at gauging when the steak is cooked to your preferred liking, I’d highly recommend this appliance. It takes out all the guess work, tells you when to flip, etc. My very picky husband was super impressed! I was so excited to use it again, I decided to grill some shrimp and scallops to throw into some alfredo for dinner. Again, cooked to perfection. I saw a tip on a YouTube video to line the pan below with aluminum foil for easy cleanup (the heating mechanism is above, not below). I’m very thankful for that tip because it made for SUPER easy cleanup. I’m excited to try the air fryer and dehydrator features!! Update! Tried the air fryer a couple of times since then. I love it too. I think what I love the most is the fact that it’s longer than your standard air fryer, so I feel like I can spread out things like fries on there. So far, I made these little sweet potato puffs in there and I “boiled” some eggs lol. I didn’t even know you could “boil” eggs in the air fryer, but I had the idea pop in my head and googled it. It works surprisingly well! Not sure if it’s any more or less easy than boiling it normally, but I just thought it was neat haha! I’ll try to continue to update my findings as I come across them 🙂 I know it’s only been a couple days, but I’m still obsessed with it for now! ... show more

  • Larger Area
I love this Cooker. I only have issue with that it needs to heat up before use and then tells you to add food so if needing more time you cannot with other air fryer just click and add more time - It wants to preheat again even though just turned off. It has a larger space then normal air fryers and of course grilling indoors a steak is nice and being able to also bake, grill or fry in it - quite heavy to store. ... show more
