With one kitchen-sized and one bathroom-sized, you can use them in any room you choose, such as the kitchen, office bathroom, dorm room or a kid's room. These two trash cans use the most advanced sensor technology which can be found in all Ninestars trash cans. Pass your hand or debris within ten inches or a 130° angle from the infrared sensor and the lid will automatically open. The lid will remain open if debris or your hand remains within the range of the infrared sensor. After your hand moves away from the lid, it will close automatically. This set was a surprising reward to me after getting it setup. Setup was a simple as opening a box and putting in 4 D batteries in each can. I had to laugh at me when attempting to get the little one to work. I searched all over the can to find the On Button. Then I heard this voice next to me say "look on the back" and there is was as big and bright as anyone could expect. That and that alone was the biggest issue about these cans. While I am with the little one permit a short it works and works well. It is sitting next to me as I click away and it is waiting for me to feed it but with the top closed and the red light off. The moment I get close to the motion device it turns red and opens its mouth to get fed. I keep a plastic bag in it; however, I believe when I remove it I will not include the bag. The inside container is removable and has so few dirt collecting points that a bag is redundant. We'll see and if excluding the bag creates a problem I will update this to include that information and now it is just the perfect little gizmo for a tidy workplace. Can on tghe left, shredder on the right and everything else in front of me. Unlike other cans that held the space this one has clean lines and just looks like a quality product and it is indeed a quality product. It just a can but more than that. It is a no smell can of high quality. The Big Mouth can is a fun can sorta. The lines are clean and the top works well. Ours is placed in a position that we cannot help but open the top almost every time one of us walks by. If the dogs are nearby they can't help but see and hear the top which leads to their barking. Thank goodness they have not attacked yet. It holds a 13 gallon bag with ease and the manner in which it's placed provides for no parts of the bag hanging out. Before I forget the one element of the design I would consider changing is placing a small hole on the bottom so that the plastic bag could be removed with ease instead of its not wanting to come out because the bag is so full. This hole would have to be one that opened only to the inside. That way should any liquid accidentally get in the bottom of the can it would stay in the can and not go onto the floor. I thought the batteries would not last any time; however, after constant use neither can has had to have its batteries replaced. Bottom Line: Two perfect trash cans that will enhance the appearance of almost any kitchen and provide practicality congruently. If kitchen space permits the small can would be perfect for use as a wet garbage can since the inner liner is solid and waterproof. The media could not be loaded. I finally replaced a 25+ year old 13gal push-button plastic trash can in my kitchen. After all those years, the button was a little sensitive; plus opening it for something like coffee grounds always required wiping the lid after. I didn't want my trash can in the open kitchen floor. This was the second one I tried; the first wouldn't work in the pantry. I found the "sweet spot" for this one in the pantry is 3" from the door. It does tap the bottom shelf a little when it opens, but it opens when I want it to & closes when I'm done, regardless of whether the door is open or closed. After the new trash cans arrived, when my daughter came over, I handed her something & asked her to throw it in the trash while I watched from the office. She opened the pantry, bent to toss it & asked "How does it close?"; I told her it would close by itself because of the motion sensor. Hours later I opened the pantry & saw the lid still open. I PMed her "You pushed the button, didn't you?". She had. So I made a quick video to show her how it works; it's attached here. I thought the smaller can was going to replace the wastebasket in my home office, but I chose to put it in the garage to replace the old pedal can that never seemed to open as much as I wanted it to. ... show more

Love, love mine. Both are great and battery life is several months. Fantastic in the kitchen for hands free disposing of things. Lid has been working great unless it needs new batteries then it stops working.

UPDATE - The company did reach out and gave us some instructions on resetting the automatic lid. Those instructions worked and the unit is working great again. Customer service was very helpful. We have purchased two of these. We loved the trash can itself but our first one quit working after about 1 1/2 years. Since we were happy with it, we decided to try another one and bought it at the end of May of this year. It has already quit working. We have cleaned the sensor and changed the batteries but it is broken just like the first one. It will not automatically open anymore. The light just flickers. Very annoying that it didn't last. I have contacted the company but received a message that they moved and they sent a new email to use. I then sent a message to that email but did not get a response. It goes without saying that we won't purchase a Ninestar trash can again. As mentioned, it was a good trash can while it worked but it shouldn't need to be replaced so often. ... show more

Sorry the pic is horrible quality but im writing this on my laptop. I love these trash cans! They were super affordable compared to my old one bought at a big box store that cost just as much for just one can and it wasnt motion sensored. The motion sensor on both the cans is super reactive and works great. The size of both of them are great! The tall kitchen one is a true 13 gallon and it fits so much more trash then my old 10.2. The small bathroom can is a true 3 gallon and holds a lot more also. The both arrived in great condition, no dings or scratches. Both look great and work great. But dont forget to buy your batteries as they dont come with them! ... show more
