I received the 21 gallon Stainless Steel trash can on Feb 8th. 1 day into having it, I can state that I really like the trash can, considering the size overall design and looks. The lid does have some weight to it, but does feel fragile, so follow the instructions for handle and care. Where we have the trash can located in our kitchen is convenient for throwing stuff away, but I can state that we walk close to it when we are turning the corner. So, if our hand is above it as we walk by, the lid will automatically open. With this in mind, we are considering placing the trash can somewhere else, but does not make me regret the purchase. With the included ring for holding the trash bag, we are easily able to use the 30 gallon bags that we were previously using. Overall, I am really happy with the purchase of this trash can, especially with it only being around $10 more than a comparable non-automatic trash can for the same size. Why do trash cans cost this much if they aren't automatic?

I was so happy when I purchased this garbage can until the lid stopped opening and closing replaced the batteries till not working. It was purchased in January 2023. Got it on Amazon but they only cover it for 30 days even though it has a 2 year warranty, called the company left messages but no reply. 🙁

I’ve been using this brand for quite some time now. I had previously purchased the older model and it worked great. I loved it and my parents loved it so much that I bought them one as a gift as well. I was elated to see the new model come out that resolved the two improvements I wished for on the old model. 1. Venting at the bottom for easier full bag removal and 2. Technology to automatically keep the lid open without touching any buttons as long as I am standing over it (ex peeling an apple right into the trash). My mom had complained quite a bit about the difficulty of getting the bags out on the old model as well. So I bought this and loved it and then a short time later bought my parents the upgrade as well. Happy customers…. Well we both have had the units for about 2 years now and both have gone from loving to hating. Here are the issues 1. After several battery change outs the battery compartment door won’t stay in place. I thought it was just mine until my next trip to my parents when I noticed that they too had to put tape over it to keep it in place. 2. The lid no longer opens. It started as just occasional issues. Then progressed to 1/2 opening and now it will not open at all. Yes I’ve tried changing the batteries. Several Months ago on a trip to my parents I was happy to see that theirs was still working but this past visit I noticed that they are now on the 1/2 opening problem and mom has changed batteries as well and she is complaining that the trash can is itself a piece of trash. I sense it won’t be long before hers stops working all at all and she too just ditches the lid all together and uses the unit as a high priced regular no lid trash can. I wish I hadn’t bought the upgrade. The old model was still working well after 4 years. Unfortunately when I “upgraded” I gave it away. I wish I could ask for it back because I go to my friends house and see it is still working as intended! My advice….stick with the older model.

I bought this trash can on July 4th 2019. It looks great in the kitchen. For the most part it was great opening when I had my hands full. I love the convenience of it. On occasion it would get a little finicky especially if batteries were running low. As far as the trash bags go I go up to the next size I can find. I think right now I’m using 30 gallon bags in it. But with the ring that holds the bag in place you never see the bag until can is open. It’s more economical for us. The real reason I’m writing this is I want anyone considering this trash can to know that Nine Stars stands behind their product. Over the last couple months the lid just about stopped working. I emailed Nine Stars and that very same day they emailed me back. They told me to turn off power remove batteries and let sit 24 hours. That would reset it. I tried that 2 different times. To no avail it didn’t work. I emailed them again and explained I had reset it and it still wasn’t working. Again they emailed me back the same day. They asked for some info and proof of purchase. I sent that to them and within a week or so they sent me a new lid. I love a company who will stand behind their product. I will definitely buy from them again and I definitely recommend them.

The media could not be loaded. Update below! I had another touchless trashcan from another manufacturer/company that worked for almost 4 years with no problem. When it came time to replace it about a few weeks ago I was happy to do so because I wanted a bigger trashcan (old one was 13 gal). I found this touchless 21 gallon trashcan; I liked the size plus it looks sleek and would fit in in our kitchen. I wasn't excited about the $95 price but figured it would be worth the money. I'd read the few reviews about the lid noise and not working but thought those were outliers. Put the batteries in this morning... Lid does not open. The noise is irritating but we can get used to it. Not working on arrival, well that's extremely disappointing. I ordered an exchange and hopefully this will resolve the issue. If not, I will go back to the manufacture/ company that I had with my older trashcan. Sigh. Update: the company replaced my trash can in record time. We received it today and the LID WORKS! This is great news and we hope it lasts a long time. I'm updating the rating from 1 to 4 stars.

I don't know why I waited so long to buy a bigger garbage pail. this is perfect and the mouth of can is bigger so it means my little ones don't spill their trash when trying to throw it out. holds more trash than the average trash can and easier than I thought it would be to find bags to fit it. It is worth it and the motion sensor works great. I had another smaller brand in the past and it was always breaking down and dirty. This one is much much better definitely recommend buying it.
