I’ve had this Ninestars rose gold trash can in my office since 2023, and it has been one of my favorite functional decor pieces. Here is how it’s holding up after nearly three years of daily use: The Battery Miracle: I honestly don't think I’ve changed the batteries since I bought it nearly 3 years ago! It runs on 2 AA batteries, and the efficiency of the sensor is mind-blowing. Touchless Sensor & Lid Closure: The "futuristic" non-touch sensor still works perfectly. It detects motion quickly, and the lid closure is consistent—it doesn’t get stuck or hang open. There is also a small manual handle in the middle of the lid if you prefer to pull it open yourself and turn off the sensor. Capacity & Cleanliness: For a smaller office or bathroom-sized can, this holds a lot. It helps maintain office/room cleanliness by keeping trash tucked away and out of sight. Build & Durability: The base is a very sturdy metal, while the lid is plastic. It has survived moves and daily bumps without a single dent. Lid Stability: Even though the lid is plastic, it’s quite stable and sits flush on the metal base. My only minor note is that over the years, the plastic has faded slightly, so it doesn't perfectly match the metal base anymore, but you really have to look for it to notice. Value for Money: Considering I haven't had to maintain it or buy new batteries in 3 years, the value for money is incredible. It looks high-end but is tough and sturdy!

This trashcan is the perfect size for my home office, the perfect color, and so incredibly handy! I never thought that I would buy an automatic trashcan, but now I’m thinking I need a full sized one for the kitchen, because it is too convenient! My dog has already figured out he can open it by sticking his nose over the sensor, so I’ll have to make sure not to leave any chocolate in there – otherwise, I have no complaints. 😂 I went ahead and splurged on little pink trash bags as well, and I’m so glad I did! Every time I look at this trashcan I smile. It also showed up way earlier than it was supposed to - I just ordered it yesterday, and here it is! It takes two AA batteries that are very easy to put in, and they stay right where they are supposed to. I’m wondering if perhaps a redesign took place between some of the older reviews and now, because there is no possible way the batteries are falling out when I change the bag. It stays open as long as something is blocking the sensor, and closes about five seconds after whatever that is moves away. You can also open it and then turn the power off so it stays open. You can also turn the power off when it’s closed to keep things like dogs and cats from opening it, if you must. I will say that I cannot keep it under my desk, because the light reflecting off of the bottom of the desk makes it open, and it will not close. That’s okay though. All in all, I’m glad I made this purchase. I was using an actual basket for the longest time along with Dollar General bags, and such a small little upgrade has gone such a long way in my office. If you are like me and you spend upwards of 50 hours a week in your home office, just buy the cute trashcan. You deserve it.

I loved this when I first got it back in 2023. The style the colors the function all seemed to be what I needed. I got it because I had a small dog that liked to pull things out of the trash cans in bathrooms to chew on. The size, lid, material and sturdiness really worked for me. It was basically put together when it arrived all I needed to do was add batteries and put in a bag. However I’ve got some updated info that I think buyers should know now that it’s been over 2 years. The motion activation can be extra sensitive so having this right beside the toilet or shower can be a problem when every movement of a leg arm shower curtain or paper waving because of a vent near by can set it off and quickly drain the batteries. I found that out and it changed where I placed it in the room, arms length away from all moving items. This means if you have children or pets that are taller than a foot it’s not really going to keep them out as they could easily set it off too. And the closure is not air tight but it is going to stay in place if knocked over accidentally. Also buyers should be aware that after 2 years the motor stopped working completely, changing batteries didn’t help. And there isn’t an easy replacement top or motor or part to purchase to repair this. Even if you look on the company’s website. In fact the top by itself is more expensive than just buying a whole new can with Amazon or Walmart. Over all I’m happy with this item but did think there was room for improvement.
