I have an older hybrid that every 3 months or so stops charging the battery. The car was fine for the 1st seven years, and lest we blame it on 2020, I should point out that this issue started in December of 2019. This charger starts the car where a normal jump from another car does not. I've had the car battery replaced twice and again under warranty. My mechanic or the dealer cannot find what is wrong. When the car dies like this, even a jump start from another car won't start it. I had it towed to the mechanic and dealer several times. Then roadside assistance jumped it with a battery pack and that worked. Due to the higher amperage, I'm told. It seems like the car resets itself after starting from the dead and all is well for another 3 months. I bought this Nextpow starter to prevent getting stranded somewhere. Sure enough, last week the car died, in my garage. Using the starter was simple. I was surprised that the charger still had a full charge after the initial charge a few months age. The charger comes in two main parts; the battery pack and the cables. The cables have the black and red clamps on one end, and a small plug with an integrated voltage reader. The way the unit works is you attach the red clamp to positive(red) on the car battery. In case the battery is in the trunk, there is a red jumper tab in the engine compartment. Then you attach the black clamp to some ground, a metallic part of the car. You know you have a connection because the voltage meter will give some sort of result. Then you plug the other end of the cables into the battery pack. Wait a bit till the voltage reading rises, and start the car. The voltage meter on the charger is a nice feature and it confirmed my suspicion, the car battery was reading .1V, then it rose to about 15v with the battery pack attached. PROS: It started a difficult car It is small enough that it fits under the chair and all parts fit in the carrying case It looks like it has plenty of charge for multiple starts, I estimate 4 for my car Handy voltage meter is built in Flashlight built in so you can start in the dark Indicator on battery will let you know how much charge remains without having to fully remove it from the case Price is great CONS: The battery is held very firmly in place inside the carrying case while the cables and charger may fall out of the case once it is open. Though they are securely in when the case is closed. The cables are a bit short, but I suppose it keeps them from sagging into the engine compartment. TIPS: Check your remaining charge level every few months Do not store in trunk. When my car battery dies, the trunk wont open.

I’m a dad of 3 little kids and husband to a wife who likes her own pillow. Here’s a quick story of how this could have kept you out of the dog house. Picture a full day of airplane travel after a long trip to visit my wife’s in-laws. Tired & grumpy kids, a frustrated wife, and me trying to keep it all together. We land back in Nashville, it’s 9pm, an hour past the kids bedtime, and my wife is ready to be home. We lug our baggage to my car parked in airport garage (the more expensive and closer-to-the-terminal parking garage, mind you, I was trying to think ahead, but as you can guess, I didn’t think ahead enough to buy this device beforehand). All anyone wants to do is get home to their bed. I load the suitcases and, buckle the kids in car seats, everyone is ready to leave, then…click click click…dead battery. If you’ve ever seen someone look at you with a WTF look on their face, their eyes drilling holes through your soul…that’s the look I was getting from my loving wife. Cue the mayhem, roll the tears, and bring out the doghouse because I am definitely about to book a room in it. So after sending my family home in an Uber and waiting 40 mins on airport security to come give me a jumpstart, I ordered this little jump starter battery on Amazon. That airport incident a month ago drained my car battery completely, so I’m going to have to replace that, but I’m stubborn and don’t want to go buy a new car battery just yet, so I’m testing this jump-starter device to keep limping the car battery along. And this thing Works!!! My car battery has died 3 more times since the airport debacle and this little gizmo has jump-started my car in a matter of seconds - 3 separate times in 3 weeks…AND it still has a full charge without me charging it in between, so it’s ready for more! The moral: Save your marriage, be the hero to your kids, and be ready to help a neighbor or stranger in need with this cool battery jump-starter thingamabob. It’s small, easy to use, and less expensive than an hour of marriage therapy.
