The media could not be loaded. UPDATE (April 29th,2025): Have seen a lot of other robots failed within a year. My poolmate is still running. Let's see. UPDATE (December 4th): I closed my pool not long ago, and so far, my wife and I love this cleaner! We've tried a few others in the past, but many were too heavy for us to handle. This one is robust yet lightweight, and we’ve had no trouble picking it up. Looking forward to seeing how it performs in the coming season—will update more then! I recently purchased and used one of these robotic pool cleaners and it really knocked it out of the park. I will break down my review further, but from the moment I took it out of the box, it was super easy to use AND it worked like a dream, it even picked up smaller things like bugs, dirt, and hair that I was not expecting the brushes to be able to handle. 1. Packaging: Super easy to put together and the instructions are obvious, couldn’t really ask for anything more. 2. Start-up: HIGHLY recommend downloading the Poolmate app to work with your cleaner. It’s as easy as plug, sink, and play. The app allows you to change its cleaning modes, adjusting for the length of time and the intricacy of the cleaning paths. 3. Cleaning: Depending on the setting you choose, it’ll scrub the floors, and the walls, and even hang along the waterline and pick up any floaters on the edges of the pool. If you have any drop offs or steps in your pool, it even hangs around there and cleans them as well. The cleanings lasted anywhere from 1-4 hours and it picked up every piece of debris that was in my pool. This is where the app comes in as well, if you feel like your cleaner missed a spot, you can take manual control and navigate it yourself to pass over anything it may have missed. I’ll admit, while the cleaner missed nothing, I took control of it a bit as the controls were quite smooth and reactive, it was like playing a little video game. 4. Post clean: One thing I would like to mention is this cleaner is very lightweight. Once it finishes cleaning, you can go on the app and tell it to come up and park itself on the edge of the pool for an easy pickup. At this point there is debris and water inside of it, so you want to carefully pull it up slightly above the water line so the water can drain; it does this rather quickly. The filter compartment pops out very easily with a handle and you can dump the debris and rinse the rest off with a hose. The cords are very high quality, and they roll back up very easily. All in all, this is a VERY effective pool cleaner and it’s very easy to use. You want to keep the battery pack out of direct sunlight while it’s plugged in, I just used the box the cleaner came in as a shield for it. I would highly recommend this to anyone, you can sit and watch with some drinks and have fun with it, or you can drop it in and go about your day, either way, you won’t regret buying this.

Because of its small size and contemporary appearance, it is simple to manipulate. Even for someone like myself who isn't super-savvy with technology, setting it up was a piece of cake. It took me just a few minutes to get it ready for its first run, according to the instruction booklet, which was easy to understand. To reach every nook and cranny of my medium-sized pool, I have a cable that is fifty feet long. In addition to being able to scrub the floor of the pool, this device also has the capability of cleaning the walls and the waterline of the pool. As it worked its way up the edges of the pool, I observed as it tackled algae and grime, which are typically things that I had to do manually. It came as a great surprise that it did not get caught on the pool steps, given that my prior cleaner had a really difficult time with that particular obstacle. The vigorous scouring brushes of the Hydro 4 brought back the luster of the tiles, and there was a discernible improvement in the clarity of the pool water after only one cleaning session. In a matter of minutes, I was able to sync the app with the Hydro 4 after downloading it. You are able to start, pause, and even alter the cleaning mode straight from your phone thanks to the efficient and user-friendly design of the application. On the other hand, when I was using the application, I did have a few problems with connection. In several cases, the cleaner would not quickly react to orders, and I had to restart the connection in order to get it to work again. When I was attempting to fine-tune the cleaning settings, it was becoming a little bit irritating, but it wasn't a deal-breaker really.

The media could not be loaded. BLUF: I wouldn’t repurchase this unit. Since it’s the third robot I’ve tried in 4 years, I’d just stick to brushing. 05/2025 update: downgrading to garbage. This thing needs more babysitting than a two year old in a pool. Regularly eats its own cord, doesn't follow "wall only" instructions, has water in cord, parts fall off, you name it. Wish I had not spent this money. There's no way this will last a year, even IF it actually did work properly. The app connection was difficult but didn’t need to be. The app requires that you have “location” turned on. Location, really? For a device whose boundaries are a 40 foot pool? It took me an hour of troubleshooting and reinstalling to figure out turning on my phone GPS was the problem. Next, I was happy to find that the unit SEEMED powerful. It sucked up sand, debris, and even a plastic diving disk off the floor. But the floor is where the functionality and consistency of this machine ends. If you include the wall or waterline, functionality takes a nosedive (literally; see video). The video says/shows it all, but in a nutshell, unless you want to consistently brush walls, and the curve where the wall meets the floor, every 4-7 days, then I can’t recommend this unit, especially for the price. For the price, I should NOT be still brushing the pool except for steps. But, I am still brushing walls even after running this unit 20-30 hours per week and proper chemical balance. If anything, the algae that remains points out where the unit doesn’t clean even after hours of running. This robot moves around very unintelligently, most often resembling a blind crab. It’s excruciating to watch its inefficiency. I have to turn it on and walk away because its cleaning pattern makes absolutely no sense. But usually, by the end of 4 hours on floor only mode, it saves me from doing about 30-50% of the necessary brushing. The basket is also made of this plastic, and I worry about its longevity. However, the basket is super easy to clean with the drop-out bottom. It can be a bit tricky to reinstall, especially if you only clean the basket and not the space where the basket fits into the unit. That wouldn’t be the biggest deal when you can get into the pool, but when your water is 65 degrees, it’s not so fun to attempt. Lastly, fines in the basket (the smallest particles) which it has successfully picked up, these run OUT of the basket when you use the handle to retrieve it from the water. They flow out with the remaining water in the unit. You have to get in the pool and hoist the unit onto the deck, keeping it horizontal, to avoid this. Manual mode and “pick up” mode (to retrieve it from the water) are nice features to have.
