Purchased this vacuum back in the spring of 2021 and it has been an absolutely awesome product! I was weary based on the price point ($169) back then, and the fact that some of the reviews weren't great. If I had to guess, the people writing those reviews didn't know how to use the vacuum properly. First of all, the vacuum will not necessarily help with cloudiness in your pool. The vacuum operates off of the outlet hose from your pump/filter, not the suction inlets like you would think. The vacuum has a screen on the inside that catches the majority of debris in the pool, but will not get rid of calcium or floc as it will just go through the screen. As long as you keep your filter clean and the internal screen clean, this product will work phenomenal and walk right up the walls of your pool. It has very good suction and operates off of a mechanical gearset that doesn't require any electronics or human input, just the input from your pump. It does a great job of picking up leaves, sand, bugs, etc, and it does a great job of scrubbing the waterline of your pool to get rid of the waterline spots. After a few uses, the suction became very weak and I thought that the product was bad. It turns out, there is a very small screen at the outlet where the hose connects to the pump that will get clogged up with small amounts of sand that pass through your filter. If you take the hose off and clean this filter every other time, it will keep your vacuum running strong, and it will keep the sand out of the gearset inside the vacuum. The vacuum operates off of what I assume is a timed reverse trigger that will automatically make the vacuum go in the opposite direction after so many revolutions of the wheels. This way, the vacuum is always making random passes and does a very good job at covering the entire pool and not getting stuck in certain areas. It will float at the waterline on the wall for around 30 seconds, and then reverse and go the other way. I used this vacuum every day of the season last year and it did an wonderful job in our 18' above ground pool. I never once had to get out the manual vacuum other than to get rid of calcium/floc after a clarifier treatment. We run a 2,100 GPM pump/sand filter, and it is plenty powerful for the vacuum. If you keep your pump filter clean, the screen in the vacuum clean, and the outlet sand screen clean regularly, this will be a huge time saver for you and a great, inexpensive way to get an automated pool vacuum that will do a great job at keeping your pool free of debris on the walls and bottom. PS, we named ours Wallie!

Worked very well for a while, it did exactly what it designed to do, until the wheel broke off! One of the 4 drive wheels snapped off at the unit frame. No one had messed with it nor was it dropped or stepped on. I found the wheel at the bottom of the pool as the unit was trying to move up the side of the pool but it was just going to the top and could not crawl down. It lasted only a few weeks. Update: I ran a stainless steel bolt through the broken wheel mount bracket and we are back in business!!! Next to the crawling out of the pool, I think it was designed for freshwater not saltwater, the two blue weight compensators (balls), located inside the unit are two buoyant so I add some stainless steel weights to each side where the OEM weights are lowering it’s static ability to float, after some trial and error and 4 ounces on each side it can crawl up to and then back down from the edge of the water without getting stuck at the top!!!! Since I had to do the R n D and the math to compensate for the amount of lift, I am only giving it 4 stars. I WOULD still buy it, and now it does work very well. If you have a saltwater pool, add the weights to it you will be much happier. Another update Now the reverse drive gear mount broke at the small bearing. Great idea great design poor production. Higher quality components in the drive system would make it one of the best units available. To the manufacturer, spend a few cents more and convert the plastic drive to stainless. Note the extra weight would not have effected the eccentric drive gear, it is isolated from the gear train. If I weren't having a good time fabricating the parts, I'd throw it away. If you're not into fabricating broken parts or don't have a machine shop, I would keep looking.

I don’t know how I bought this for $69, it was used, very good. The box had been opened but everything was there I guess. I had this assembled and running in about fifteen minutes. I didn’t have very high expectations because $69 is not much for a pool vacuum!!! But this thing got to work yall!!! In about an hour it had the pool debri free, dust free. And I’m dealing with spring pollen, two live oaks shedding leaves, and two pecan trees dropping their little catapillar buds!!! Now… I am running it off a 2500 gph type “b” cartridge pump. I also have a 2500 gph sand filter running a skimmer. It’s also a 15’x48” round above ground pool(roughly 5300 gallons). I had gotten rid of my regular intex style return jet/fitting and replaced it with a 3/4” pvc pipe with an elbow to help direct the water flow BACK into the pool. So the way I set it up was to just use a regular hose clamp and clamp the hose around a 3/4” pvc straight pipe as the RETURN jet. I’m also super impressed that it could climb the walls so well. I mean it gets out of the water and the brush scrubs that little water line where fine debri tries to find a home. Overall, super little vacuum for the price. I ordered another one, even though they’re $100 now!

We have a big tree within 8' of our pool, had cooler temps early in the summer and have had a lot of rain this season. That said, we have not been in it as much due to the cold water and have struggled keeping the bottom of the pool clean. Normally, getting in the pool daily and cleaning out the leaves with a net while disturbing the sediment on the bottom, to filter out, would keep the bottom and water clean. We have a 15' Summer Waves pool with a 1500 GPH pump/filter/skimmer (2018-$600). This pool pump works well as a skimmer as long as the basin and filter are cleaned daily. It does not address sediment on the bottom of the pool. We decided to add an additional pump/filter to the pool and purchased a used Bestway 2500 GPH pump (2021-$100). It kept the water crystal clear but did not clean the bottom. We added the Intex 28005E Cleaner (June21, 2021-$185) and it works well with the Bestway pump (we had to purchase an adapter for an additional $25.00). The Cleaner is a very interesting design which picks up leaves well and some small sediment from the bottom while at the same time stirring up the fine sediment for the pool pump to filter out. After cleaning for about 2 hours, the bottom looks about 95% clean. It struggles to clean around wrinkles, seams and "stuck on dirt". It's very cool how it cleans the sides. Shortly after the Cleaner is removed, you will see the fine sediment settle back at the bottom. Be careful to remove the Cleaner and Entire Hose from the pool when cleaning out the bottom capture bin or sediment will go back in the pool. Overall we are happy with this cleaner. (I see Amazon is now selling it a month later for $65 less than i paid. What's up Amazon!!!) RATINGS: The suction power is based solely on the pump. It works very well with our 2500 GPH. I paid $185 because I needed something and it looked like the best choice available at the time. But for what it is, I think $185 is a bit high, especially since Amazon is selling it now for $120.00. It is very easy to clean. SIDENOTE: The pool we had before was a 16' Intex with inflatable ring. It came with a much better 1500 GPH pump and filter/skimmer design than the Summerwave 1500 pump/filter/skimmer.

For the first year, it was working pretty well. But after that it was starting to slow down fast. Now it after 18 months, it doesn't move at all. At first I thought it was my pump so I adjusted the pump so it would a lt stronger, but that didn't help. The water flows and the wheel spins ever so slowly but no movement. I'm now going with a robot wireless vacuum. Robot vacuums last only 2-3 hours per charge while this one can last hours and hours as long as your pump is running. That is what I'm going to miss. The fact that I constantly have to recharge and insert my new vacuum manually. Oh and one more thing, the brushing is so light that its practically useless. I think the brushing is more for pushing leaves to the suction rather than scrubbing..........

I was reluctant to purchase thit robot cleaner because is was so inexpensive, but because I have never been disappointed by Intex, I thought I'd try it. I have an 18' x 52" Intex pool with a sand filter (2nd year) using regular water with chlorine -my 3rd Intex pool over the last 18 years. The robot cleaner works great! Very easy to connect mostly because all my hardware is already Intex, so no adapters were necessary. Had it running in 10 minutes and after about 2 hours, my pool is 90% sediment free. I have a 2400/3000 GPH pump and it seems to work great. It struggled a few times to climb the wall which may be due to some algae which is expected. I did, however, add a few ping pong balls to the filter cavity to give it extra buoyancy which worked great helping it climb. Maybe it's because I'm at 5000ft altitude or maybe it's calcium, hard water, Ph, or whatever. I wouldn't recommend doing that, but that didn't seem to affect the cleaning process.

This is the best above pool vacuum/cleaner I have purchased. It can climb the wall and brush the algae off the water line. I pull the ladder and let the filter just run all the time my pool is always clean and I use half the chlorine. Fifth year for my intex pool in Pennsylvania

Goes straight into the wall and then gets stuck and is useless. With a round pool you have to sit there and babysit it to constantly get it unstuck, which defeats the purpose of having a vacuum like this in the first place. What a waste of money.
