    • Don’t bother, you end up doing the hard part yourself

HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. This is basically a Temu version of a once great Hayward pool cleaner. From the ad: “Say goodbye to leaves, twigs, and any dirt unfortunate enough to be in its path - this pool cleaner devours them all.” NOPE! In the first hour out of the box I had to bring the cleaner to the surface and clear the small vacuum port…twice. They advertise this as having a large suction opening but it is small and clogs easily. I installed this per the instructions and the suction gage read almost maximum, right at the line, but even then it won’t pull leaves in, and certainly not twigs. I’ve been watching it for 2 hours now and it climbed the wall once. Granted, we have a Grecian angle vinyl in ground pool so the corners are rather sharp, but even when it did climb the first section it fell right back off. As you can see in the video, the leaves in the pool are old (from last Fall) and are quite decayed and soft, yet this unit struggles mightily with picking them up. The bottom line is, if I still have to hand brush the walls and hand vacuum the leaves, what good is a $500 pool cleaner when I’m doing all the work? ... show more

Two weeks in, I've been very satisfies with how well this works. I can see why these style of Heyward vacuums have been seen as the gold standard for decades for in ground pools. Got this once my Aquabot was starting to age out and we replaced our filter to one of these types to better justify a pump operated vacuum. Pros: -works very well -able to climb walls. -easy to use install kit with great documentation to get just the right suction. -designed to not get stuck, great with pools with challenging designs -can cover a lot of space quickly. Cons: -Will not climb the wall every time. Heyward mentions this is part of the behavior for these in the manual. It will climb it eventually. I'm hoping to get the legendary 10-20 years owners have been known to get out of these. ... show more

Revised: After running for a about an hour, it dead-stopped. I could not figure out why. I called the company and they said to return it for another one. Later, I shut the system down and took it out of the watwer to find it had suched up an old, small cal toy ball that had fallen in the pool. After taking it out it ran fine. Also - make sure you don't have too much hose or it will tangle itself up and only service one area of the pool. I had to take 2 links of hose off so that there was about one extra over the total length of the pool,, from the skimmer to it's farthest point. Working great now. ... show more

Goes right to work. This is the 3rd Hayward Navigator that I've purchased, over the last 15 years or so. I can usually get about 4 - 5 years of service from each one, with normal maintenance on it. Most of the time the maintenance is just a matter of replacing the worn-down shoes, shoe holders, and side covers on the bottom. Other times the rocker items could stand to get replaced. We have hard water where I live, so calcium build-up is always an issue and I scrape off whatever I can. Eventually, it just makes sense to replace the unit. Upon purchasing this cleaner, it went right to work as soon as I put it in the pool, and my pool looked great within a matter of hours. ... show more

I bought this cleaner for my mother's pool which has suction cleaning. The little guy works really well, gets the entire pool and is pretty durable. It does have a fair amount of "wear" parts that are easy to get and easy to install. We replaced wear parts on my mom's old unit for quite a bit of time, but the gear box was going out and the plastic body was beginning to get a bit brittle. In my pull, I have a Pentair 4-wheel cleaner that isn't suction but the bag with water pushing up debris and a booster pump. I wish I had a suction system, because I like this design so much better than the super pricey setup I have. ... show more

Worked well in the beginning but soon gravitated towards one spot, eventually it simply gave up. No suction strong enough to move around any longer. Wheels and wings are in excellent condition the suction feels strong enough thr9ugh the hose. Something internal needed to be fixed.
