Goes right to work. This is the 3rd Hayward Navigator that I've purchased, over the last 15 years or so. I can usually get about 4 - 5 years of service from each one, with normal maintenance on it. Most of the time the maintenance is just a matter of replacing the worn-down shoes, shoe holders, and side covers on the bottom. Other times the rocker items could stand to get replaced. We have hard water where I live, so calcium build-up is always an issue and I scrape off whatever I can. Eventually, it just makes sense to replace the unit. I used to have Hayward Navigator and had nothing bad to say. This generation of Navigator, unless mine was a one-off, has been horrible. After it's first 4 - 6 wks, this one stopped climbing the walls. Then it was failing to run a good pattern so it missed a lot of the pool floor area. I have had to replace the gear box twice and feet and flippers 3X. New Hayward parts Gear box, tests ok during install (turns both directions) but within 3 days goes to turning only one direction. It still won't climb walls, and now within an hour of starting from a straight hose, winds up against the deep end wall, with hose all twisted up and the vacuum going nowhere. I've tested and adjusted for water flow and adjusted the pressure flow screw, per the manual installationsl and troubleshooting several times, all to no avail. Including on-line videos or suggestions. This continues to be extremely aggravating on a daily basis, thus compelled me to write this review. Every morning untwisting the hose, knowing it's going to be in same spot in 15 mins. When I can, I'll be replacing this with another brand entirely after this disaster. ... show more

Revised: After running for a about an hour, it dead-stopped. I could not figure out why. I called the company and they said to return it for another one. Later, I shut the system down and took it out of the watwer to find it had suched up an old, small cal toy ball that had fallen in the pool. After taking it out it ran fine. Also - make sure you don't have too much hose or it will tangle itself up and only service one area of the pool. I had to take 2 links of hose off so that there was about one extra over the total length of the pool,, from the skimmer to it's farthest point. Working great now. ... show more

This little sweeper works okay. The problem I have is that it gets stuck against the wall and step connection where our Baja shelf meets the steps or wall. I timed it while it was stuck in that location. It will be stuck for 30 to 45 minutes. During that time, it should have made several trips around the pool. To be fair, I think the shape of the pool is causing the issue. Regardless, I am not satisfied, so you get three stars. ... show more
