  • Tough to review - good but PRICEY
Summary: I do like the Petcube play 2 camera, although is too expensive. I do not like Petcube's marketing policies. At all. First, the price. For the price of the petcube play, you can buy 6 or 7 similar home security cameras that offer nearly everything the petcube play does. You won't get Alexa (which I don't use anyway, and I hear is limited on the Petcube) or the laser pointer (which is fun!) but everything else is comparable. And other cameras have better apps to view and control them from. So it's very expensive, and for like $125 more, you're getting a remote controlled laser pointer. Worth it? Maybe. My sphynx cat loves it, but it's confusing to her when she hears my voice :( But they also badger you to upgrade to their paid service. So not only is the camera crazy expensive to begin with, they keep features from you unless you pay even more! And they constantly ask you to do said upgrade. Emails and in-app. About those emails... since I set up my camera, I got about 4 emails a day asking me to do various things: review the camera, upgrade my service, etc. Each of those required a separate unsubscribe - so who knows how many lists I'm on. And when I asked a review when they kept begging me too and complained about how they keep emailing me, THEY EMAILED ME!!! I guess some people would be ok with this but personally I hate it. 1 email list I can deal with... So this is tough to review. I like the camera itself; image, speaker, and night vision are good, it looks pretty cool and is well built, and the laser pointer is fun. But the value is questionable, and the way they keep bothering me is straight up annoying. EDIT: To be fair I wanted to update this. The ads and nags to update to the paid service seem to have stopped, and after unsubscribing from 3 (I think) email lists the emails also seem to have stopped. My review stands otherwise though. ... show more

  • Good product
Being an owner of Petcube previous generation I have ordered a new version of the device, so now I have 2 cameras at home. I was satisfied with the previous one, but see that a new version is significantly improved! The angle of the camera and the quality of the laser are redesigned. Sound quality is also improved. I found one minor problem with the application - sometimes it returns a connection error and I need to restart the app after that. But overall I like the camera, how it works and helps me keep an eye on my cat when I’m at work. I have left my cat for 2 days alone and was able to watch what’s happening at home, so I could make sure that everything is fine. ... show more

  • It's a good product for staying in touch with your pet
I got this one in replacement of the previous generation of PetCube. - I think that this one works much better in terms of connectivity (the previous version constantly had issues disconnecting from wifi and not being able to reconnect). - In terms of the picture quality, I haven't noticed any improvements from the previous version of Pet Cube both previous and this Pet Cube allow exporting videos to iOS only in 720p resolution. - The motion detection is not a very useful feature, it gives a lot of false positives reacting on outside of the window light changes and when it detects the cat it also starts recording a bit late. - I almost never use night-vision, but it seems working well. At the end of the day, all of these things don't matter much for me as long as I can stay in touch with my cat while I'm away it is all good. My cat trained to get into the room as soon as he hears the beep sound that device is making when somebody connect to the camera. And my cat loves the built-in laser toy. Overall it is a good product. ... show more

  • Purrfect for a Stay-at-Home Kitten!
Overall, I’m very pleased with my Petcube Play 2! The only downside is the Night Vision doesn’t always kick on, and sometimes the picture quality is fuzzy (I’m hoping adjusting the placement of the camera will fix this). I adopted a kitten during the pandemic quarantine, she’s now 8.5 months old and hasn’t been alone for more than a few hours. I start a new job on Monday, and I am so, so glad I have a way to communicate and check in with her - and play! I may even get a second camera for my other room so I can keep an eye on her everywhere! ... show more

  • Great petcam (not for security use)
I bought this for the autoplay function with Alexa. There was an issue with the skill and Alexa. Petcube support was great! It took a bit of time for it to get fixed but I was kept updated on the progress. Now that everything works, I am very happy with this purchase. The audio when I talk to pets is clear. Control of the laser pointer is great, but, as the instructions suggest, calibrate the laser pointer movement to make it accurate. The video quality is good enough to see my pets and identify people. This is not a security camera first, it's a pet cam first. I have it placed so that it catches an angle my other camera doesn't get. Overall I am happy with the camera. The only issue with the petcam would be the lack of local video storage on an sd card. This would he useful in the event of the loss of internet. I'm giving 5 stars since this is designed and sold as a petcam. Overall it does exactly as advertised and the support team was a pleasure to work with. They even gave me free time on the paid service for the issue I had. As a security camera, it works good to enhance your coverage as a secondary camera not as a main room camera. Get this for a petcam to check on your pets and entertain both the pets and the owners. ... show more

  • A best way for our family to stay connected with our pet
My wife always used to ask me to take pictures/videos of our cat when she's not at home, so this was a perfect fit for us. I love it that we both have the app and can each look at and play with our cat when at work or traveling. I also love the "motion detection" which basically records a video when there's any movement at home and sends you a notification, so I get tons of fun videos that I share with my family (and I also feel a bit safer). Video quality is good, the laser takes a bit of getting used to, but worked out fine, the cat loves it. Design is great, fits well with our interior and is pleasant to touch and unpack. I haven't tried any similar products to compare, but don't think I need to anymore, we're loving this and sticking with it. ... show more
