only thing I dont like is when you move the camera, the motions are inverted. To go up you have to swipe down... the controls are a bit screwy. That plus the pop ups are kind of annoying

On average, this camera is good enough. Looks very nice, Good quality. I love the laser toy feature there keeping the cat in tonus even if nobody is at home. However, the app is not well organized in my opinion. You can notice some lagging with the laser. Sound communication is terrible - you need to play with 2 buttons to speak and to hear. It would be better to have just one button in order to activate/disable the sound channel. I set 3 stars only because... After the free trial period ended, the cloud image previews stopped working (see, a screenshot). You have to open each of them to figure out what was found by the motion detector there. Even the purchase of a cloud subscription doesn't help to fix that. They have online help in the app but my experience was awful. They ask to describe the problem many times (initially by the robot, then several times again by the operator) even when the screenshots were provided. Finally, they asked me to provide a login and a password for my Eye4 account, telling me I can later create a new one. This sounded weird to me. I had to reject this request and gave up on these previews. I would say you can definitely buy it to monitor and play with pets but don't expect too much. UPDATE: My case has got the continue... I was reached out to by Sharon from the VStarcam VIP service team. Sharon is very professional. After asking several reasonable questions, Sharon quickly identified the issue on their side and fixed my problem without any actions from my side. This was the exact example I would expect from professional support. I have increased the rating to 5 stars in my review because the camera and the app work perfectly for me now. The buttons' functionality in the app is not so important because this is how it was designed and you just have to get used to it. Thank you Sharon for your great service. ... show more

    • Good concept overall!
This was a good concept overall! I wish that the pattern for the laser would repeat instead of only working once and done. Perhaps I am doing something wrong though. A lot of things still to figure out.

    • I'm impressed - for the money
Stupid impress me sometimes, but this is functional too. You can get a camera for about half this price, but this one pivots, and the pet laser is awesome. Had to update my router from a 20 year old one to a 10 year old one because A) I have DSL and B) this camera won't install with basic WEP security. Went on cruise and needed to monitor cat. Latency from Caribbean hut with free wifi with 3 dozen users caused freezes and delays but worked enough to draw out and monitor her. Pivot allowed view of my house from front to back, and zoom in on her food to watch intake. Laser play not good from there but that wasn't the point. Laser ok from U.S. ... show more

Got this just to check up on my cats while I'm away. Easy to connect to and setup. Picture quality is nice and I can see just fine at night. Audio quality is sub par but for no subscription it works for me just fine. Laser pointer is a plus but my cats don't play with them in general.

I bought this to use when we travel as I have a cat with separation anxiety. The camera quality was excellent, so if that’s all you need it’s good quality and easy to set up. However, the laser pointer would not work no matter what I tried and consumer service responded after 5 days telling me to just click it. The speaker quality was awful with echo and distortion. Again, customer service was no help and said I was too close - I was 3 states away. We ended up returning the unit as support was no help and it did not work as advertised. ... show more

    • Easy to connect, cat loves laser play
I've had trouble with getting other wifi-connected, app-driven pet devices to connect but this one had No issues, so yay to that off that bat, well-done. It's great to be able to see and play with your cat even if you're away from the house. Due to internet lag, you're not going to be able to do a manual laser pointer play as well as you would in real life, not the device's fault but you can do the preset laser movements and switch between side to side, side to side elliptical and up and down preset movements to get it exciting enough for the cat. One suggestion and I don't even think the device itself needs a physical upgrade to do it, is to make programmatic 'random zigzag' function pattern , that would really be exciting for my cat ... show more
