This unit is easy to use, and will save you money by identifying problems that you might be able to fix yourself instead of taking the whole car in to a shop. Also, knowing why your car is coding means that you can deal with potentially unscrupulous mechanics who want to charge you for repairs you really don't need. You don't have to know how a system works or how it should be fixed; you just need to get the code and do a cursory armchair study of what's involved, so that you're not pegged for a sucker.     • Very Basic OBDII reader
This is a basic OBDII reader that can help with some basic issues that comes up. First, it can read the I/M readiness which is the parameters needed to run and complete a smog check. If your battery dies and all the data is lost, you will need to run the car for a certain number of miles before all of the protocols have enough data to complete a smog check. Aside from that, it can read and clear some engine codes. Also helpful when you get that pesky engine light because you forgot to tighten up that fuel cap. That ususally clears itself after you tighten up the cap and drive it for a short trip but sometimes it doesn't and in those instances this is handy to reset that. Like I said, its pretty basic but does do the job reasonably well. If you want to get into other items like ABS, SRS or other features, you will need to go to a more robust system. ... show more

Oh finally found one that worked. We have a couple of older vehicles. Because we can do our own repairs on them still we need a reliable car code scanner. Have tried a couple of others before this one without it being accurate. This one has actually been giving us the correct reading for the car we used it on.
