I was looking for a solid hammer that would work for me when camping. This isn't it. It has its pros and cons for outdoor/camping applications. There are a few hammers out there that deliver hard ability to pound but are much heavier. There are hammers that are lighter but cannot deliver the impact needed. This one is in the middle of the pack. Strong enough to hammer effectively, yet light enough to carry. It's not a question of if it will break but a matter of when. The handle is not reinforced and is the products weak-point. Unfortunately, when I go camping, I'm forced to carry both this hammer and another hammer like product. LIght work? I had a friend that had this tool last weekend while we were camping. Very rocky and hard ground. I pounded my stakes with my trusty 5 pound hammer. When it was time to pull up stakes and decamp, I was having a hard time getting the stakes up. That's where this tool was very handy. Made pulling the stakes much easier. Worth $40.00? I bought this with the intention putting down tent stakes while backpacking. I haven't gone backpacking yet but did want to try the hammer on nailing pickets to a fence. It's light weight means I have to put a bit more muscle (or more strikes) in than an actual framing/nail hammer but there was much less fatigue when compared to my 16 oz estwing. After 300+ nails the hammer is still in good condition, I don't see any remarkable signs of wear and my forearms don't feel sore. The claw is definitely not designed to pull bent nails but is sturdy and works well for larger things like stakes. It's not going to be replacing my construction hammers but the light weight and durability proved itself as I was carrying and using it throughout my fence install. ... show more

The rivet snapped the first time I used the hammer to set up my tent. Had to use a screw and a couple of nuts to fix it. The stakes are junk also. MSR is not what it used to be.

This product makes installing stakes so much easier than by hand. I wanted something light weight but small to add to my camping gear. I have been driving stakes by hand (and foot) for years, and finally decided to make this purchase after considering other products. It is very light compared to any other hammer, but does a great job driving in stakes, even in somewhat rocky soil. Got stakes out easily as well. Have used it on stationary camping trips, but have not taken it backpacking yet. Not tested the bottle opener either. But it is worth it in my opinion. I would recommend it even though it might not advertise as many features as some of the other heavier options out there. ... show more

Unlike the tax evading Hammer this one is pretty darn useful. It is 100% not a necessity at camp but I like using it more than the backside of the hatchet and a lot more than a rock. We often car camp so I already have a hammer and a mallet with me, but this fits in the tent bag along with some extra stakes. Ive used it on a couple trips now and am very satisfied by its hammering prowess. It is probably a 4 star hammer but the bottle opener bumps it up to five. If I was backpacking I dont know if I would make room for this item in my pack. It is light weight for what it is but even in titanium it might be more weight than its worth.
