  • Solid Value for the Money
Like most, I have been shopping for a cartop carrier for awhile. If the size of this one is right for you, Buy It. It is heavy, but that also makes it sturdy. It took about 45 minutes to put it together and another 30 to get it lined up and mounted. All the parts are packaged nicely, panels are packaged seperately from cross rails in plastic bags. Screws are shrink wrapped onto carboard, mounts are wrapped seperately (no loose parts floating in the box). The one I received did not have any blemishes in the paint and all parts were in good condition. I did not use the directions to put it together. Pretty simple once you lay all the parts out. Allen wrench for assembly was included. Before jumping in I would recommend running the screws into each cross rail to make sure they will screw in smoothly. Two of mine had paint inside the railing that semi blocked the threads. I was able to use the allen wrench to run the screws in and clear the threads (it is easier to do this before assembly). Once you start the assembly I found that hold the allen wrench and turning the rail was faster and easier than cranking the wrench around and around (this will make sense once you start assembly). I also like to put all the screws in halfway before final tightening. This makes placing the parts together easier. Two things I may do to the rack will be to possibly paint it as others have done (though it looks OK from the start) as a preemptive against rust and second is to run a bead of silicone on the inside edge of the wind deflector. It is spot welded so there is some vibration when you tap it. It doesn't seem to vibrate when driving, but again preemptive. I am very happy with the product for the money when compared to the Thule or others in that range. My modifications are well worth the difference in price and not sure I need to do them. Mounting was simple enough. I have a Lexus GX 460 with factory cross bars (cross bars are a must). The lexus cross bars were more expensive than the cargo rack. ... show more

  • Good quality product
Really good quality. Perfect fit for a 2017 jeep renegade.

  • PROBLEMS SOLVED
It didn't come with assembly instructions, but I contacted them and they took care of that for me. It was a little rough getting it together, especially if you have a tendency to over think things, like I do. At any rate.....all is good now, and overall, I am fairly happy with it. If anything goes wrong with it.....I'll post an update. Oh....and the size is AWESOME! Plus......The box was pretty mutilated. You guys should probably change carriers. ... show more

  • For the cost, it's a good deal
It was easy to assemble, and the cost is equal to the quality. I mean, if you want a really sturdy cargo carrier, and are planning on carrying 500 lbs, you may want to do some further research. I tried putting a small generator (150 lbs) on it just to see if it would hold it, but the rails started bending. I had no intention of carrying that much weight so it works for me. I am only planning on putting about 80 lbs on it, so I would say that is a more realistic safe weight for this item. I do love the compact size. ... show more

  • Says Load Capacity: Carry up to 500 lbs confidently. I'm not confident in that at all.
The quality of the material seems overall pretty good however load capacity says Exceptional Load Capacity: Carry up to 500 lbs confidently. I'm not confident in this rating at all. I'm only 180 lbs. and the bars creek and bend if you stand on them. All bolts and nuts are torqued down with a ratchet driver and Loctite on every one of them. The mounting system is not the strongest and I have concern that with just the tire on top even over the cross bar there is potential for it to move easily. I can even though tightened down as much as I could can move the mounting brackets buy hand. There are complaints of the welds on the bars however this must be a different version because the cross bar ends are flush and threaded and appear to be done well. There are also complaints of rusting and poor hardware. I haven't had it long enough to say. For safety I have ratchet straps across the spare through the factory crossbars on the jeep as well as one up front on the factory cross bar until l come up with a better mounting solution. It does look really great and came with accessory mounts for the side which I didn't expect so that was really nice. The accessory mounts tighten with a bar pin which has the potential to rattle and move but, I haven't heard them do that though I had concern about it. Amazon confirm fitment says it doesn't fit the 2004 Jeep grand Cherokee but, it seems to fit just fine. I'm using this locking tire carrier https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D4H9T78P?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title with a 32" full size spare. The bars are pretty weak and am concerned about bouncing but, haven't experienced that though if you stand on the tire or press on either side their is movement. I have heard a loud noise when stepping on the bars and I believe it's the screw threads stripping from the bar which is very concerning. The load rating provided in the description has got to be a complete lie because again I weight only 180lbs and they bend and strip when I stand on it. That's not 500lbs. Not even close. I have plans to change the mounting type to utilize a bracket system connected to the factory side rails as unposed to the u bolts provided. I also plan on tack welding the cross bars to the side plates for further strength and adding a floor with either wood or expanded metal. More than likely wood since an expanded metal piece to fit is about $200 (more than the cost of the rack) I'm over all happy and knew I was purchasing an inexpensive model of this style rack however if you plan on using it for anything more than basic luggage or to support your body weight I'd look at something a bit more durable unless you intend on making modification to supplement the strength. There are no step by step assembly instructions just a single sheet and it lacks specifics as to where what nuts and bolts go where. It's pretty much guess work to figure it out. I was able to assemble it in just over an hour. I'd recommend basic assembly and then going back through with Loctite to ensure it all stays together and no nuts or bolts rattle out. The Alen key provided is made of super cheap materials and will strip. I used a angle grinder to cut the L shape out of the tool and put it on an electric drill to speed up assembly but, expect to have either another tool handy or cut down the end of the tool multiple times to finish the job. Also the nut and bolt hard ware is a bit cheap and will strip pretty easily if you're not careful. Hope this helps someone make a buying decision. ... show more

  • Practical, useable, looks good and doesn't cost a small fortune.
Just attached to my 2022 Ford Bronco Sport. With factory rails and attaching some Thule 450R feet to Thule wing evo-bars I was happy with the way this low profile rack attaches. Secure and no issues on parts I simply sprayed the assembled rack with some paint to help impede any pre-mature oxidation as others have complained about. I was looking at name brand racks and platforms, but with many of them costing between $780 to $1200 I just could not see any measurable differences by spending substantially more. Admittedly this higher cost racks use open channel cross members for using t-bolts to anchor stuff to where this one is simple round bars with no channels where you will have to use buggy cords and straps... but again spending extra for that feature was not for me. ... show more
