This rule is well made, with lines etched to add durability. I especially like the side of the rule marked in 10ths and 100ths of an inch. This allows for quick measurements, especially when math is involved and one can eliminate using fractions of inches.

Mitutoyo makes a great product. The 6 inch rigid scale is nearly flawless... the markings are crisp and clear, the material is top-notch and has proper 5R graduations. However the 182-103 scale is not as shown on the listing; the scale counts from 0 (left) to 6 inch (right) along the BOTTOM of the ruler, instead of the top as pictured. This might be handy for some machinists, but I find it to be difficult. Also the listing shows a bold San-serif font for the inch markings, but a dual scale serif font is used. Great tool to have around an engineering office. It's thick enough to be sturdy, but still light. Ends are precisely ground. Markings are easy to read and etched in, so I imagine they'll be durable. I decided to try Mitutoyo to save a little money (over Starrett), and I wasn't disappointed. I've only used their digital measurement tools before (which are, of course, excellent) but this rule holds up to the high quality I would expect from them. Also, it comes with a plastic carrying sleeve. I liked it so much I went ahead and ordered a 150 mm metric rule as well. ... show more

    • Fantastic tool
I needed to add a scale that was marked in thousandths and this is a good one. Sturdy, so easy to read and no more in my head conversions from fractions to decimals. I am old and just not that good at it.

    • This is a fine scale, but it is not the one pictured
Although the scale I received has the same part number stamped on it (182-103), it is not the same as the one shown. The one I received reads left to right on the bottom edge and right to left on the top edge. The whole reason I bought this scale in the first place was because I wanted left to right reading on the TOP edge. I find it makes measuring in tight spots easier and reading upside down and "backwards" is error prone. Otherwise this seems to be a great scale. (Back in high school machine shop, we were chastised if we referred to a machinist SCALE as a ruler). ... show more
