This was a huge upgrade from the previous detector I had. It works excellent. It is nice and light weight also easy to use. I was debating on going with the simplex but glad i spent a little more on this unit. I am also glad to have the pin pointer included as the price of a decent pin pointer would have made the cost of getting a good set up just that much more. I've been using different metal detectors for over 40 years and the Minelab Equinox 600 is one of the best machines I've ever used. It's easy to set up it's extremely lightweight and I don't think you can find a better value for the money.

Works great out of the box. I’m not a fan of the pinpointer as it takes so long to power on and doesn’t have the sensitivity of my Garrett pro pointer. I’ve gone back to local parks I’ve detected before with my Bounty Husband Pioneer 505 and found change that was still there that the 505 missed. I bought this one because the 505 wouldn’t work in wet sand at the beach. Very happy! Wish I’d been able to spend the extra $200 to get the 800. Don’t buy this for the pinpointer. I thought it was broken at first because it takes so long to come on after the power button is pressed. All in all the best detector I’ve ever had. It found a gold wedding band under 8” of wet sand at the beach. ... show more

    • A good detector, except.....
I've been a long time Minelab user having owned several Excaliburs and my comments are based on the Equinox compared to the Excal. As far as I'm concerned this detector is everything the much more expensive Excal is but with some extras. True, this detector can't go as deep as an Excal but of all the detectorists I know, only one of them goes in water over 10 feet deep. There are scores of settings, more than an Excal user is used to. I have one set of settings I use in the water and another for the beach and that's it. I don't use this detector in the park. But if you like to tweak things, there are plenty of adjustments you can make. I have only one complaint about this detector and it's the charging arrangement. Yes magnetic charging is a step forward but Minelab executed it poorly. In fact so poorly that I knocked two stars off a 5 star detector. I spend far too much time fiddling with charge connector to get charging started and it shouldn't be that way. Judging from online forums I'm not the only one with this complaint. There are numerous examples of magnetic charged devices on the market place, from watches to personal devices, and all of them are simpler and more effective than what Minelab came up with. Next time Minelab should consult with an elementary school in their area to get some ideas for their design. ... show more

I am a new detector. There is a bit of a learning curve. once i have it mastered i'm sure it will be great.

Fell in love the instant I got passed the noise canceling. Found great things in my yard that was searched many times before the minelab. It really is a great machine
