  • Fun gadget and great image quality!
The media could not be loaded. I picked up this microscope / miniscope for my kids, as they are always wanting to check out insects. Right away, we were inspecting salt granules, hairs and skin spots, all of which it did a very good job of showing. I discovered a really cool use case for this microscope while looking at an earring - jewelry and hallmark identification! I love vintage and antique jewelry, and enjoy learning about a piece's origins through its hallmarks. Many hallmarks are hard for me to make out, but this miniscope can zoom into even the tiniest of hallmarks with great clarity! If you're a jeweler, pawn shop worker or collector, this is a great way to inspect coins, jewelry, cards and other items. The focusing mechanism is easy to use, simply twist along the handle, and the displayed image quality is sharp. Photos displayed on the screen looks worse than the live view, but I believe that's due to image scaling. The miniscope also lets you record videos of what you're inspecting. Zoom is adjustable, as is the light brightness, but some items in some situations are hard to see with the light on due to overexposure and image blowout making everything look white. I believe this occurs only when using the microscope in a dark environment with the light on. It wasn't too common, but something I noticed. When the image blowout occurred, I disabled the built-in light and just shined a flashlight into the side of the clear viewing chamber to view the object. Aside from the occasional exposure blowout, the only other issue I experienced was an SD card error when trying to take photos. It wouldn't let me take photos or videos, and it wouldn't let me format the card. After ejecting the reinserting the card, the issue resolved. Overall, this is a really fun gadget. The microSD card probably won't last, but for the price and fun, it's a great value. ... show more

  • Great quality & easy to use!
This is exactly what I was looking for! It's easy to use in the classroom and can be taken outside as well. I read through the instructions and they were easy to follow and accurately described what you should do. I found a dead fly in a windowsill and took some pictures from the bottom and top sides. It really shows excellent detail. It's great that you can capture the images on the device- I found the button a little hard to press to take a picture at first but with practice it gets easier. I used the QR code provided in the operating instructions packet to download the Beaver Point App. It was very easy to connect the microscope to the app using the instructions. You use the settings menu on the scope to turn on wifi and leave it on the screen showing that the wifi is connected and then you are able to select your scope using the app under the wifi menu. I tried using the bluetooth menu at first before I realized the connection would only show up with wifi. Then I could view the images I took on my phone and download them to use in my photo gallery. This is an excellent device and well worth the price - It's actually quite a deal for the price. Very pleased with the photos I was able to take. I think that elementary students can use this microscope to collect pictures and they might even find it easier to press the buttons for pictures and video. They will need an adult to connect the device to a computer. ... show more

  • Great microscope but the app is terrible
As a standalone microscope, this is great. Image is pretty sharp and pretty clear (but white areas of image tend to be overbright and lose detail). Built in light works well. Pretty easy to use. This is promoted for kids and yes, kids will enjoy this but I think it's pretty good for adults. As a microscope, it's fine, but if you want the images on your computer or want "live mode," with the image on your phone or computer screen, you have to use the app. And boy, does the app stink. I was not able to use it with the Mac at all but did get it to work with an iPhone. Not sure I can consistently do so, as it requires non-obvious incantations. You download the Beaver Point and add the DDL-M2 device. If you accidentally add any other devices you cannot remove them so you will always be unsure as to which device to choose. Then, you fire up wifi on the microscope (menu button, right, right, checkmark, choose Wifi Switch, choose Open). Now go to your phone, choose the DDL-M2S-something wifi network and password, then start the Beaver Point app and hope it connects. On the iPhone, at least, you have to let the app access your whole photo album (!!!) and allow location access (why?!?!?)—not good security policy. Not ok with having Chinese companies access all your photos? You are out of luck. I allowed it, then turned it off immediately. I would give the microscope 4 or 5 stars but the app deserves one, at most. ... show more

  • Amazing tool for budding microbiologists
I was thoroughly impressed by the capability of this little digital microscope. The screen is bright and legible, the focus is simple and efficient, the illumination and magnification are adjustable, the battery life is excellent and rechargeable, and the whole thing is well balanced, easily maneuverable and fully portable. On that last point, I do wish it included a case or drawstring satchel of some sort. While this may not be the best microscope out there, it's fantastic for kids and has all the features they might need, including the ability to record photos and video. The ease of viewing specimens on a large-ish screen versus fiddling with an eyepiece cannot be overstated. I wish they had these things when I was a kid. Easily a 5-star product. ... show more
