  • Powerful zoom and very easy to use
I got this for my 9 year old, and he LOVES this (my 11 year old, my husband, and I do as well)! He's been playing with it for an hour and shows no signs of stopping. We watched the most exciting thing: the back of a small fern with it's little balls of spore pods that started moving and bursting under the 1000x microscope! It was incredible! My son said it was up there on the best gift I've ever given him. How it works: To begin, it took about an hour to charge. The screen shows a green bar filling up and a red light on the back next to the charging port (see pictures). Once it's fully charged, the light turns blue and the battery on the display is solid green (see pictures). To use: Turn on using the power button on the front and the light automatically comes on at full brightness. You can turn the light down with the wheel on the right side or off with a tap on the power button. Use the arrow keys to zoom in or out the power level (see picture). Tap the OK button to take a picture (see pictures, the captured image will shrink into the upper right corner). For video, press the Home button, then press the down arrow once to highlight the video mode, then press OK to go into video mode. Use the focus wheel on the front to get the specimen into sharp focus. There are actually two levels of focus, so you can get a regular view and an extreme close up. We found the extreme close up focus only works with the slides on the base or with the unit in freehand without the included plastic specimen holder (I'm thinking the specimen is slightly too close when it's in the plastic holder to get to the extreme second focus). What I really like about this microscope is that the image moves in real time in the same direction you're moving it in, unlike traditional microscopes that move opposite. The microscope has an auto shut off after a while and automatically goes back to 100x zoom when it restarts. The only drawback I have at all for this is that it doesn't come with a case for all the parts. A minor issue that doesn't effect how awesome this microscope is. As an adult, I was amazed and truly wowed by that fern spore release. It was like watching a National Geographic video live. Can't recommend this enough. I'd give it ten stars if I could :) ... show more

  • So cool
Ok this thing is actually pretty cool. I got this originally to pass on to my nephew, but im kinda hesitant to send it on out now. My sister was like 'o hey we didn't get that package yet' and her son was right there and obviously its supposed to be a surprise so I knew she couldn't get into any specifics so I was just like 'um.. what package?' Lol good stuff. That bought me atleast another week to see if I tire off it. I don't really see that happening though bc I've enjoyed looking at random stuff under the mag. Thats what we call it. The mag. 'Hey i wonder what tobacco looks like .. cool yeah put it under the mag!' My only regret is that it doesn't go past 1000. That would be awesome if we could see it on the molecular level. Maybe I'll be an adult and invest in a real one that I can magnify much more but u know what? I'm still glad I had the experience of this one first though. It was a soft little intro to microscoping. It really is pretty cool though. It comes with so many different things too! U know what, if i try to explain to u what it all comes with im gonna struggle and then u would feel bad even though u dont know what they are called either and then ur kid would pop up out of nowhere and be like ' oh wow those are cool scrape specimin boxes daddy" and then we would both feel really dumb and u would have to figure out where the heck your kid came from and it would be awkward. So I'll just let you read on the description what it comes with and let you know that yes it does come with that. So, on you go... ... show more

  • Great STEM gift!
This little microscope has been a huge hit in our house. I originally bought it for my 10-year-old, but it quickly turned into something the whole family—my 11-year-old, my husband, and even I—wanted to use. Within minutes of unboxing, we were completely hooked. The highlight so far? Watching the tiny spore pods on the back of a fern burst under the microscope. It felt like watching a live science documentary right in our kitchen! The unit took about an hour to fully charge. The charging indicators are clear: a red light while charging, blue when finished, and a green bar on the display. Once charged, it held power well through extended use. Turning it on is simple, and the built-in LED lights make specimens easy to see. The focus wheel is responsive, and there are actually two levels of focus—one for general viewing and one for extreme close-ups. The controls are intuitive: arrow keys for zoom, an OK button for photos, and a menu option for video. The real-time movement is a big plus; unlike traditional microscopes, the image moves in the same direction you move the slide. The screen is small (2.0”), but the clarity is impressive, especially for kids exploring on their own. We loved that it can capture both photos and video, and the results were sharper than expected. The included slides and accessories are a great starting point, and my kids immediately started collecting leaves and backyard treasures to examine. The only drawback is the lack of a carrying/storage case for the slides and accessories, which would make it easier to keep everything organized. Also, the extreme focus sometimes doesn’t work as well with the included specimen holder—but freehand, it’s fantastic. This microscope is engaging, educational, and just plain fun. It sparks curiosity in kids (and adults!) and makes science interactive in a way books and videos can’t. For the price, it’s an incredible value and an awesome gift for kids who love exploring. ... show more
