Great product......but......if you are going to paint this item insure you completely strip the current paint off. Believe me I know:) However this was my fault for not proper prep. For those giving it bad reviews for fit must realize that this product is for current standard U.S. size double din radios. Insure you measure your radio size. If you don't then that is on you and not the product. If you are like me and have to make the opening a little bigger (I knew this prior to purchase) it is very easy to file to size. Very easy to install but I do recommend drilling the old fasteners first before removing old bezel, (ONLY DRILL ABOUT 1/16" DOWN) it will make the process really easy. Took me less than 15 minutes to replace old one with this one. Great product and looks great.

It's Okay but has a flaw

Installed on a 2005 Ram 2500 with the 5.7 hemi. Everything went together great, drilled out the plastic welds, epoxied in the new bezel, And cut out the shelf in the dash. (also cut out the top plastic shroud that goes over the radio so i had a little more room for wire management and radio adjustment. The brackets that came with this kit fit great, make sure you use the screws that come with your new head unit so you don't damage the radio (screws to long and hit internals). the only problem i have is the opening for the radio is about 2mm to small, i can't fit my radio in. vertically (top to bottom) is a perfect fit, but horizontally it's a little short. so i'm going to end up filing about 1mm on each side hoping that will work. not sure what the problem is, if my head unit is slightly larger or this mold for this product is too small or just a defective piece.

Perfect fit for my 04 ram 2500. Well engineered and rigid enough to do the job. Replaced a factory plastic chome trim poece. This is Much better looking. gives ther dash a blackout look. Would recommend

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT, and this kit fit perfectly, and was relatively easy to install. I do recommend carefully drilling the plastic welds on the original face plate with a 1/4" drill bit, this makes it easy to remove the original face plate without damaging the rest of the plastic assembly. Some YouTube videos also instruct you to cut out the top portion of the remaining assembly (the little plastic support bar), you don't need to do that for this kit at all. It fits without any further mods. Also, when you install your double din, you will have to carefully cut out the center plastic piece inside the dash that supported the OEM radio, as well as the top plastic pieces inside that same space, otherwise the double din stereo won't screw in flush (Something I realized while installing mine). Last, use the plastic stereo brackets in the kit, not the ones that come with the stereo you purchase, the kit brackets are fitted much better for the dash.

Opening dimensions (not stated in ad): 175mm wide x 100 mm tall. Double din spec is 180 mm wide (according to Wikipedia, at least), so there is a problem. Won't accept a radio width of 178 (bezel) to 180 (body) that I bought, but that stereo had other problems anyway. I'm going to get another stereo and make this thing fit through trimming it. Height is good for two radios I looked at, at a retail store. A plus: It is at least as sturdy as the OEM Dodge face. Of course, Dodge Ram owners know how flimsy the OEM dashes are... Can't fault the product completely--no other 2002-2005 Dodge Ram double din dash kit states their dimensions, either. Update: Trimming sides worked, but I think a better approach would be to simply trim the back opening flanges flush to back surface if you wanted to move the unit forward. for the Jensen VX7023 and others with a knob near the driver's edge, you probably don't need to have it protrude more than about 1/4", but it does need to clear that front face of the bezel a bit.

2003 Dodge Ram 1500 QC Install

I installed car audio professionally from about 1980 till 2009 and still do my own installs and for good friends. So, my level of competency on doing these installs would be way beyond a typical backyard/shade tree installer. If a person is going to do this themselves and not take it to a dealer, be forewarned that you DO have to do some cutting on the back side of the dash and modify the kit. If you don't have the right tools, you'll be spending more time and money to do it right than you might just taking it somewhere. But, if this isn't your first rodeo, or "your dad is a TV repairman and has an awesome set of tools" (Fast Times at Ridgemont High), then you'll probably be ok. Metra has always made a good kit and this one comes with all you need....except for a wiring harness and antenna adapter, of course. Was glad to finally get a double din radio in my truck with backup camera....only after owning the truck for almost 12 years! (always had single DIN) Installed into a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 QC.
