This is such a neat unit for entry into metal detecting. Easy to assemble and all functions are easy to operate. Very lightweight and comfortable to carry. A little flimsy due to the lightness of materials but should last a long time with care. Fun to explore and dig once the beep has indicated a find - the frequency can be adjusted, muted, or you can connect headphones. No gold yet but our chances have increased :)

This is the Metal Detector for Adults & Kids. Easy/intuitive to assemble. I like the old style meter type readout because you can see even minor deflections of the meter. It is very light and looks like it needs some care, but could stand being dropped once or twice in the sand. There is a headphone jack so the rest of the beach will not need to hear your detecting. I wanted to see what it whether it would detect metal objects that I knew were buried. I tested it in my home that has copper pipe within the concrete slab and it was pegging the meter regularly. I then tested it outside. My development is built on sand and recently my home utility power line was buried 18" below ground. The conductors are massive and I knew the complete path. With the sensitivity cranked all of the way up, I was able to get signal in a number of places but not the entire length of the cable. I then tried it on the cable that powers my outside light. It is 12gauge wire and much smaller a target around the same depth as the previous power line. I could not get a signal. It is a nice kit and at the price point, it might be a good place to start before you start hunting big treasure. It is advertised as a detector for adults and kids; that seems about right because you need something light for a child. I would suggest that it could be a great beach project for a child if you hid metal objects just below the surface of the sand. Ideally adults would want something more sensitive if you are serious about metal detection.
