The pictures are of two separate roasts I made (I unfortunately forgot to take before and after photos for both roasts, so I only have the one picture of each). Both of them turned out wonderfully for my tastes, and I cooked both to 135° using Kenji's slow roasting method. Battery life so far has been phenomenal; the base is still showing 4 bars of battery even after two 7+ hour roasts. I really like that the base is magnetic, it's able to stay out of the way on the fridge, but still at eye level so I can check the temp quickly. The base also does everything I needed it to do: display temp, change the target temp, and adjust the alarm volume. I personally didn't use the app, nor do I ever really plan on using it, but I think that's part of why I like this thermometer so much. I don't have to use the app to have a full-featured experience with the thermometer. Other customers may find the connectivity useful, and the app is a great feature for those who want a more hands-on experience. But those who just want a wireless thermometer without any frills aren't forced to download an app if they don't want to. Some other thermometers I was looking at require you to connect them to your phone; this one gives you the option. This thermometer has been so much more painless than traditional probe thermometers. No wires to fuss around with in the oven door, a nice compact size, and no need to nest it away in a cluttered drawer because it can rest on your refrigerator. It's accurate and convenient, which is enough to convince me that I made the right choice.
