This makes chopping kindling a breeze. The splitter is sharp and has a wide taper to it so the wood starts to split easily and right away. Of course it you and driving the stick of wood down with a limb coming out of it that manages to intersect the splitter and 90 degrees it's gonna stop when it gets to the limb that's no fault of the tool however. Buy one of these things you'll pat yerself on the back for doing it.

Very glad I decided on this model, with so many endless versions on Amazon. I had a truckload of firewood delivered and the majority of the logs were just enormous. The XL size takes care of most of my logs, only needing to break up a few with an axe. I separately bought a 4lb mallet which works great. Larger logs do take a lot more effort, and if using a mallet can take forever. For large logs I do need to hammer them through with the backside of a large axe, but for smaller logs, they split with just a few taps. It works fine if not mounted to a log. I bought a square piece of wood to mount it to for more stability before I received it, but it works just fine with out so I won't mount it, so it's more portable for taking on a camping trip. Very happy with this!

I use this to turn split wood into smaller pieces so I can better control heat in my pizza oven and barbecue pit. Easy to use and really helps with temperature control. Just set the piece in and hit it with a 3 pound hammer!

I have a hand injury so I can’t cut firewood with a heavy ax anymore. We got this and my husband will cut the rings first and i will take some of the bigger pieces to make smaller ones or kindling with a smaller mull. I feel like I’m helping with the work now instead of him having to do all of it. So glad I found this!
