Violet Night is my jam currently. So, I wanted super dark purple hair that looks black at a glance but shines in brilliant purple hues in the sun. I see a lot of blue-black dye that works that way, but apparently it's almost impossible to find a purple version that does this. My solution: I dyed my (faded rainbow) hair using Schwarzkopf Keratin Color Permanent Hair Color in Rich Caviar. It's more of a burgundy black, but was the closest to purple I could find. THEN, after rinsing, I applied Violet Night and let it sit on my hair for about 8 hours. The results are stunning! I get compliments on my hair everywhere and this might be the first hair dye cycle that I wasn't sick of the color by retouch time. The blue purple tones of Violet Night work perfectly with the Burgundy purple tones, making a super rich dark purple-purple. The technical stuff: - Longevity: I've been an avid Manic Panic user for 25 years now and I scale longevity based on my own created scale of Rockabilly Blue (lasts longest as in I'll have to cut my hair to get it out) to Electric Lizard (shortest, fades to an ugly color in a few days and needs constant touch ups). For my hair, Violet Night rates perfectly right under Rockabilly Blue - I haven't had to cut it out but it stays for about a month, gradually fading into beautiful lighter shades as it wears out. - Tips: fry your hair (bleached or otherwise over processed hair is best because your hair shaft is frayed and broken giving the dye something to deposit into) before applying, leave in your hair for a ridiculous amount of time (I always leave in for at least 5 hours) and add heat (plastic cap and blow dryer for a good 15 minutes), then rinse with white vinegar and cool water. I’ll preface this with IVE HAD MANY OTHER COLORS lol and now I’ve been letting my hair grow out since. (Thanks Covid lol) Prior to this color I had a crazy Neon Green (also by Manic) but then thought I was retiring from color and died it black (generic Walgreens brand). Long story short it eventually faded into a grey (which was amazing somehow). BUT I figured I’d do one last color before giving my hair a rest, so on top of the grayish color I added this one. And this is how the color turned out! It looks cool and bright in the sunlight, but really rich and deep indoors. A very cool color I’d say! I love manic products because it’s never a huge mess when showering, the extra pigment that may run doesn’t stick to my shower walls/tub so it’s easy to keep clean. i am naturally a dark brown haired guy, however at the very beginning of the year i bleached my hair to dye it a semi permanent bright blue. it faded and i was left with a light grey blonde color which i was tired of, so i made a impulse buy and ordered this with over night shipping. let it sit in my hair for a little over the recommended at least 30 minutes washed it out and my hair is a BEAUTIFUL DARK PURPLE -- it even highlighted a few strands of my natural dark brown hair that some of the product seemed onto ( i tried to avoid touching them purposely with just whatever naturally fell onto it ) ... show more

I haven’t dyed my hair in almost 15 years. It was easy to use. I used one jar but could have used two for better coverage. Will use two next time. The conditioners in the dye spread out but the dye itself doesn’t. My hair took the color well. I washed with shampoo, dried it, and added the color. Put in shower cap and blow dried for 15 minutes. Then wrapped a towel around the cap and left it for 3.5 hours. Rinsed it out with warm water. I didn’t shampoo it just added my normal conditioner. Hair feels healthy. Not sure about longevity as I just did it two days ago and haven’t washed it. Spilled some on my white sink and rinsed off easily. I wore gloves but got some on my face and it also came off easily. ... show more

I love the color, and not unhappy with the results, but I was expecting their to be some blue shades under purple, but it’s really just a medium purple. I bleached my hair to the lightest shade of blonde using manic panic bleach before applying the purple.

I have quite dark hair so before using manic panic violet night, I bleached the portion I intended to dye, since my hair is quite dark it did have a rust tint to it even after being bleached. Prior to this I had never colored my hair. The day after I bleached I applied the manic panic violet night and left it on for about an hour then rinsed. The image of me in the grey shirt is from the day I dyed it and the image of me in the dark blue shirt is from 3 weeks and about 6 washes later. I’ve been using L’Oréal’s Ever Pure sulfate free shampoo and washing in cool water and I think that’s been helping. The color is starting to be less vibrant after 3 weeks, but it’s still quite noticeable. ... show more

I didn't want a strong color so I didn't lighten my hair (it's a light brown with natural highlights) So it definitely didn't show up with any rich pigmenting at all. But it left a nice purple highlight that would show up in the sunlight. Since that's kind of what I was aiming for I'm pretty pleased with the end result 👍 ... show more

This was SO COOL while it lasted. I have medium to dark brown hair so i did have too much expectations when it came to how to color showed up. To my surprise, the color came up really nicely in the sunlight and under bright lights. While the color only lasted a little over a week for me, Id recommend this product to someone who isnt constantly in the ocean / pool as I am! Will be purchasing again to mix it up :) ... show more
