Back in the day, we used to visit an Italian restaurant in NEOHio that would serve the most delicious baked rigatoni dish, that was always served in a Au Gratin baking dish. Because of our fondness for that restaurant an those memories, we chose to make a similar dish to break in our new set of dishes. They did NOT disappoint!!! These dishes are solid, and had no trouble with baking or high heat to melt the mozzarella cheese on top at the end! They washed up easily, and ran through the dishwasher with ease. The 22oz portion is the perfect size for those with a larger appetite, and those who wish to save half for leftovers the next day. Several days later, while making. large lasagna, I realized we had more ingredients than could fit in the larger casserole pan, so we grabbed the bowls, and made four individually layered white veggie lasagnas. Once again, the dishes worked wonders for this purpose. Now I am thinking of Shephard' Pie, a layered multi-colored root vegetable gratin, and so many other possibilities. The dishes are solid, of medium heft, and I suspect will be great support in the days ahead! I highly recommend this item if you enjoy cooking, and and creating these warm, cozy meals.

These little dishes are gratin dishes or dishes for sides. They’re not for casseroles, unless the casserole is individually portioned. So just be aware of that when you buy them. I love these dishes because I often serve small sides or individual mac & cheese, or green lasagna, or roast potatoes, or roasted cauliflower— really, anything that I’m either serving individually, or anything I’m not putting on the dinner plate, but offering to my small family to serve themselves. And that’s the key to these dishes — a small family. My family consists of three members. So it’s easy to put roasted cauliflower in one of these dishes and set it on the table for the three of us to share. If your family has six members, you’d have to use two of these little plates, which would be a drag. It’d be much easier to just use one bigger plate. For a small family, as a vessel for sides, these Malaca plates are great. For individual servings of lasagna or mac & cheese, these are awesome. But for a big family… not so much.

I bought these dishes for a family dinner and with upcoming holidays in mind. The dishes are well made and perfectly sized for sides, deserts, and even bread presentation. The color is great and neutral. The dishes baked evenly. They look beautiful on the table and it is great to have a set of 4 so all of my side dishes can match, making the table not only smell yummy but look fantastic too! I love them for baking or roasting meat and vegetables when I am preparing a healthy meal when they opt to order pizza. Honestly, these dishes are great for those nights when everyone wants to eat something different, like leftover night.
