Description

The 18V X2 (36V) LXT® Brushless Cordless Couple Shaft Power Head Kit with String Trimmer and Pole Saw attachments is a welcome solution for a range of trimming and cutting applications. With zero emissions, lower noise and maximum versatility, the power head delivers maximum performance and run time without the hassles of gas and without leaving the 18V LXT battery platform. The lever style lock system allows for quick tool-less installation and replacement of attachments. The 10" Pole Saw Attachment provides 7-foot fixed length for trimming hard to reach branches and the String Trimmer Attachment includes a rapid loading bump and feed trimmer head loaded with 0.080" twisted quiet line. The couple shaft can also be used with multiple other attachments for edging, cultivating, and brush cutting (sold separately). The Makita-built BL™ Brushless Motor delivers up to 7,000 RPM with String Trimmer Attachment and 3,940 FPM with 10" Pole Saw Attachment. Makita’s efficient BL™ Brushless motor is electronically controlled to optimize battery energy use for up to 50% longer run time per battery charge than similar non-brushless tools. Other features include a variable speed trigger to control cutting speed and Extreme Protection Technology (XPT™). XPT is a protective seal inside the tool, engineered for improved operation in harsh conditions by channeling water and dust from key internal components. I have a 100' long 16' high "hedge" that is made up of laurels, deadora's that have been topped over the years, etc. All for a view of the lake. It has been a nightmare to trim every year. The actual hedge part is fine. I have a Makita hedge trimmer for that. What is hard are the shooters that aggressively grow off of the topped evergreen trees. These form trunks that are too thick for a hedge trimmer or a pole cutter. This kit works so well and I cannot believe I have maintained this hedge that way that I have for 20 years! The chain saw pole cutter is the absolute BOMB! With the counter balancing design of the motor and battery on the back end of the handle, the weight of the chainsaw (plus oil) is counter balanced in a way that makes the heft very manageable, even on top of a 16' ladder. I cannot say enough at how blown away I am at the efficiency of the cut. 2" to 6" rounds, lopped off in seconds. So now instead of multiple shooters as a result of limited cutting capacity of previous tools used, I was able to cleanly cut where I actually needed to, to facilitate healthy growth. The line trimmer is also excellent. Well balanced as well. Also spins really fast for efficient trimming of most any weed or brush. With the kit on sale, the value is the best addition to your landscaping arsenal for any amount of money, let alone this sales price! ... show more

Typical Makita quality but assembly directions were awful, to be kind. You can eventually figure it out. You also need to buy chain oil, not included. Tree trimmer requires fresh battery to be effective. Not light weight.

I love the Makita tool set. The assembly was fairly straight forward. The weedeater works great. The battery life with the weedeater is really great. The weedeater has two speeds but mostly I only use the higher setting. Next the pole saw. All I can say is it also is great! Please know that I have extra batteries from the other Makita tools I own. And I used three Makita batteries with the pole saw for about 45+ min of heavy trimming. The saw is great and I trimmed some fairly large limbs. In the end I would totally buy this again, but if this was my only Makita tool I would get some extra batteries especially for the pole saw. ... show more

I was on the edge of buying the 18v x2 (36v) model power head but I’m glad I didn’t! This thing has plenty of power. The pole saw has more power than my actual normal style makita brushless 10” chainsaw. The weed eater shows much less on the spec chart vs the lxt brushless stand alone weed eater I already own, with the motor in the actual trimmer head. Surprisingly it is way stronger on the power head unit. Speed is great, weight is counterbalanced better and it comes with a sling making weed eating much more precise. I do recommend buying the shaft extension piece as this doesn’t reach very far for the pole saw attachment. ... show more

    • Leaks oil, weak product support

Powerhead and string trimmer work OK, heavy but it does the job. Spare trim heads were difficult to source. Main problem is that the pole chain saw leaks bar oil at all times, in every position, whether in use or in storage. Must be filled and drained for every use, and still leaks residual oil even after dumping out the reservoir. Saw also uses nonstandard bar and chain (both tooth count and width appear unique). These are not evidently stocked by Makita retailers, such as Home Depot, even though they did at one point sell this unit. Correct part numbers are not clearly shown in literature provided, and product page does not give links. Appears there is a newer version of this accessory with different bar and chain and what looks like a different oil reservoir, but this doesn't appear to be marketed for the original 18V battery system. Possibly an orphan product (perhaps with good reason). Would return the whole oily mess, but return window closed before it could be fully tested. ... show more

This Mikita pole saw and trimmer is exactly what I needed. I am 67 years old and can easily mange both. They are easy to exchange from pole saw to trimmer. It is a good weight to be able to use for a while. The battery lasts for me to complete the job.

Amazon price is great if you need only a high quality pole saw and weedeater. Additonal attachments must also be Makita, which are very expensive. Universal attachments have 1" pipe; Makita requires 15/16" pipe. Thus Makita's coupler is too small to accept univerals attachements. In addition the "push pin lock" on the pipe is 90 degrees off the univeral arrangement. Project Farms" test rates Makita highly; this package also has battery, charger and POLE SAW included. ... show more
