Description

Makita is expanding the line of cordless outdoor power equipment to include the 18V X2 (36V) LXT Cordless 17” Residential Lawn Mower, Tool Only (XML05Z). With zero emissions, lower noise and reduced maintenance, the 18V X2 (36V) LXT Cordless Residential Lawn Mower is a welcome solution for efficient grass cutting. It’s powered by two 18V LXT Batteries (sold separately). The 4-bay battery system holds 4 batteries for twice the run time, but without leaving the 18V battery platform. The Makita-built motor delivers up to 3,600 RPM for faster cutting. The compact 18” deck is ideal for detailed landscaping and the 17” cutting width provides optimal performance. The mower has a single lever that quickly adjusts the cutting height (13/16” – 3”). A soft start provides smooth start-ups and longer gear life. Other features include ball bearings for a smoother drive, rubberized soft grip handle for comfort. The lawn mower features Makita Extreme Protection Technology (XPT ). XPT is a protective seal inside the tool and is engineered for improved operation in harsh conditions by channeling water and dust from key internal components. It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18V LXT System, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V lithium-ion slide-style batteries. Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls . Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.

I use it to pick up leaves on my driveway on a low height setting. Works perfectly. I also like the small size (17"), that allows me to mow the hard to get nooks and cranies after i mow the larger lawn area with my ride on mower.

The lawn mower runs exactly as described. At 17 inches it is definitely for smaller work - just what I need for my smaller yard. Handles a city lot on far less than half the batteries charge. Folds into a very small footprint for storage. If you have other makita battery stuff this should be a perfect fit. UPDATE - After less than two full summers of light duty work the front wheel shaft and the rear wheel shaft have broken. Both broke on the sane weld - a specifically stressful point that should be a solid metal solution. It seems to be a cold weld. So really bad design that exists on the current version of the mower as well. At least in my case, manufacturing is also suspect. Makita support response was an unacceptable, tone deaf send it to a service center knowing it is out of warranty. I was suggesting a design change but hearing from others that the problem continues into newer models it is time to rethink my use of Makita for cordless. ... show more

Works really good for what it is. Very light, and cuts good. I use for close to the house and a hill area along with rider lawn mower, but it could do the whole yard if needed.
