  • I am impressed Makita XCU07
Style: Chain Saw, Tool Only
I have used gas saws all my life and decided to purchase the Makita cordless chainsaw for smaller projects and to utilize in a barn space for sake of noise, risk of spark fire, and noise. Recently, I had six oak trees to cut 10 diameter to cut upon its delivery. I did purchase the additional Oregon chain and kept the stock as backup. My results: I did cut the trees into 4 foot lengths and limbed all branches. I went through two set of batteries, but I always have two charging. The saw never over heated nor did the chain come off. Compare to the gas saw it’s lighter and quieter, like cutting trees in stealth mode. I will not get rid of the gas, but I impressed with Makita and its performance and will probably use it regularly. Great purchase for the busy DIY type. I like the fact this saw has the traditional bolt tightening chain setup and chain adjustment is easy. Peace out… ... show more

  • Another Makita winner! Just buy it already.
Style: Chain Saw, Tool Only
I have a bunch of existing LXT Makita tools, which never fail to disappoint. Not a single one of them! Drill, hex quick change 1/4" impact driver, X2 (2 batteries, of course) blower, X2 circular saw, hedge trimmer, angle grinders. This chain saw was the latest addition. I've had a corded 14" Homelite electric chainsaw for years. This 14" Makita seems just a powerful, but lighter and thinner bar and chain (a good thing for cutting). The battery life is past amazing. I trimmed three large bushes damaged by a freeze. I'm sweating (hot outside). Take a look at the battery gauge and only down 1 LED! Sheesh. The saw was ready to go a lot longer than I could. :P Especially good for branches of like 1, 2, 3, 4 inches in diameter. I did buy the better Oregon R52 chain shown on Amazon, and the Oregon bar oil. Recommended. NOTE!! The one surprise - THE SAW DOES NOT SHIP WITH ANY BAR OIL AND YOU NEED THAT BEFORE YOU CAN START CUTTING! I don't fault Makita for that, prevents oil spills in shipping, but a big note about it should be included on the order page somewhere. Anther tip: buy two or three chains for spares unless you really want to sit there with a chainsaw file and sharpen each tooth. :P Not worth it for $16, IMHO. I did wear out one of the R52 chains already. By the time I hit the 5th bush I could tell it was getting a bit dull (hard wood on these things). Slapped on a new R52 chain (easy to do with this Makita design) and the cutting was back to the original glory. I see on Amazon the R52's are for sale in multi-packs, too. I should add that I had zero trouble on this saw with anything to do with a power switch timer. I read that was a problem with an older model. I set the saw down several times to hand-trim some small branches to fit in the trash can. Never had the saw power button time-out on me once. Hahaha after I was done with the bushes I actually looked around the yard for something else to cut. :D Go Makita!!!!! ... show more

  • Pretty good saw, but my first electric so I'm ignorant
Style: Chain Saw, Tool Only
I heat with an outdoor wood stove, and have a good Stihl 311 for the larger stuff. But this saw is becoming my mainstay. I cut up a medium sized dead walnut tree from top to bottom with 3 sets of batteries. I was on my last set, but still running when I finished. I used up the rest of the 3rd battery set (6 five and six sized battery) I don't know what the other electrics are like, but this seems to do the job. I have overheated the saw and it's shut down. But I am 70 yrs old and take a break or load the wood that I've cut. You have to have the chain adjusted just right or it falls off, and the kickback sensor seems to be a little too sensitive, but I am getting used to it. I like the other makita tools, except for their drill that has a miserable chuck. (why don't you fix this , Makita?_). So I already have a bunch of their batteries, and a couple of chargers. ... show more

  • Great tool. Highly recommend. Previous defects corrected in this model.
Style: Chain Saw, Tool Only
On my property we have 60 + trees and a bamboo orchard. So a chain saw is a necessity. I also own a bunch of makita tools, so the saw was a natural purchase. I didn’t need to buy batteries. And starting up the gas chain-saw is such turn-off I don’t want to use it. A previous model of automatically shutoff after 4 seconds of non-operation. This was the subject of numerous complaints. In this version, there is a much longer (1 min?) time before auto-shutoff, which makes use of the saw completely natural. The chain is .043” wide, which essentially a thin curf. It’s cuts quickly and easily through very hard wood. I’m assuming that my gas-powered chain saw is more powerful, but who wants to pull on its starter rope to find out? I probably will get rid of the old technology. Having a saw with absolutely no startup cost (just put in the batteries) is far more important than a slight increment in power unless you are a professional and/or are cutting really big trees. For smaller branches I was using a saws-all type saw with a branch-trimming type blade. Now I’ll be pulling out the new chain-saw to do a lot of the same work because its just so much faster cutting a 3” branch with a chain-saw, as long as you don’t have to fuss with gas and oil, and a machine that’s been sitting in the shed for 3 months unused. ... show more

  • Powerful, quiet and convenient battery power!
Style: Chain Saw, Tool Only
Worked great cutting 12" diameter black oak, mesquite and other tree limbs on my property. 5Ah Batteries lasted a few hours of intermittent use - so have extra at the ready. This has become one of my favorite yard tools like the Makita line trimmer- it's easy grab and go functionality makes yard work fast and fun. ... show more
