  • Another Makita winner! Just buy it already.
Style: Chain Saw, Tool Only
I have a bunch of existing LXT Makita tools, which never fail to disappoint. Not a single one of them! Drill, hex quick change 1/4" impact driver, X2 (2 batteries, of course) blower, X2 circular saw, hedge trimmer, angle grinders. This chain saw was the latest addition. I've had a corded 14" Homelite electric chainsaw for years. This 14" Makita seems just a powerful, but lighter and thinner bar and chain (a good thing for cutting). The battery life is past amazing. I trimmed three large bushes damaged by a freeze. I'm sweating (hot outside). Take a look at the battery gauge and only down 1 LED! Sheesh. The saw was ready to go a lot longer than I could. :P Especially good for branches of like 1, 2, 3, 4 inches in diameter. I did buy the better Oregon R52 chain shown on Amazon, and the Oregon bar oil. Recommended. NOTE!! The one surprise - THE SAW DOES NOT SHIP WITH ANY BAR OIL AND YOU NEED THAT BEFORE YOU CAN START CUTTING! I don't fault Makita for that, prevents oil spills in shipping, but a big note about it should be included on the order page somewhere. Anther tip: buy two or three chains for spares unless you really want to sit there with a chainsaw file and sharpen each tooth. :P Not worth it for $16, IMHO. I did wear out one of the R52 chains already. By the time I hit the 5th bush I could tell it was getting a bit dull (hard wood on these things). Slapped on a new R52 chain (easy to do with this Makita design) and the cutting was back to the original glory. I see on Amazon the R52's are for sale in multi-packs, too. I should add that I had zero trouble on this saw with anything to do with a power switch timer. I read that was a problem with an older model. I set the saw down several times to hand-trim some small branches to fit in the trash can. Never had the saw power button time-out on me once. Hahaha after I was done with the bushes I actually looked around the yard for something else to cut. :D Go Makita!!!!! ... show more

  • Outstanding light weight chainsaw in every respect.
Style: Kit
I've been using this chainsaw for over a year now -- it has certainly passed every test for quality, performance and durability. The Makita XCU07PT kit is an absolute winner.

  • High Quality
Style: Kit
I’m 72 yrs young and use the saw for trimming apple and pear trees, and working along side spouse as we cut hardwoods for winter wood. Saw holds a strong charge, is lightweight and makes delimbing a breeze. A well balanced saw. Last; saw cut off when finger is not on trigger. A reliable safety measure. ... show more

  • Great Little Saw
Style: Kit
I was impressed by how much power this thing has. It does well cutting through hardwood. Even though it only has a 14" bar, I was able to cut through logs that were 16" in diameter or so by walking it back and forth. It is perfect if you have the occasional limb down that needs cut up or if you use it for pruning. I bought it to keep in my vehicle for when we go to our cabin since we occasionally have limbs down blocking the driveway. It's always ready to go, doesn't require any messing with to get it started, and it just works. It does have the power to cut through larger hardwood but it eats batteries pretty quickly when doing so. As long as you have two other batteries, you can keep rotating them and do what you need to do. It is much much quieter than a gas powered saw and the start up is immediate. No more messing with mixing fuel and with finicky carbs. Makita does it again. I'm a fan. ... show more

  • Great product for the right uses. This is not a gas power replacement.
Style: Kit
I have a lake house that I maintain away from my primary home. Every now and again I'll have a significant downed limb that requires me to borrow a gas-powered chainsaw or rent one from Home Depot. I decided to buy this to have as a maintenance chainsaw for small projects. That's exactly what you will get out of this, nothing more. It has enough power to destroy dead limbs. It does not particularly enjoy taking down live trees that are any more than 4 or 5 inches in diameter. I had 6 inch down limb in my driveway that this thing went through like it was nothing. 1 charge and I nearly got through the whole thing and it wasn't small. I tried to take down a few birch trees that were in my way of a deck. They were no more than 4 or 5 inches in diameter and healthy. I struggled with this saw. It will bog down very easily on fresh wood. It also drains the batter much more quickly when it's struggling. The auto-off problem on previous models is now fixed. I didn't find myself frustrated with auto power down modes when I set it down for a few minutes. It comes with a charger and 2 batteries, but that's it. Don't expect a case or anything more. Overall, I would recommend this for the casual user who is only interested in lawn maintenance. If you have big projects....that's not what this was designed for. Get a gas model. ... show more

  • Good buy!
Style: Kit
Lighter than my STIHL 180 and cuts just as fast. Great battery life. Last longer than my back. No ear plugs required.

  • Easy to set up an use!
Style: Chain Saw, Tool Only
I’ve owned several gas saws- big STIHL saws. I now live on small acreage and have no use for saws that cut huge trees. I’m 76 and still enjoy cutting wood. I bought this saw based on the great reviews and I’ll say this, those good reviews were not wrong. I took this saw out of the box, put the bar and chain on, filled the bar oil reservoir and put it to work. I cut up to 12” limbs like I had a large saw. So effortless. What I especially like is that when I was finished, I turned the switch off, pulled the batteries out to use in my 36volt circular saw and put the saw away. I can’t say enough about the convenience of this tool. It’s definitely not a saw for big wood, but that’s not what I got it for. I highly recommend this saw. Thank you Makita for another fine tool. ... show more
