Description

Landscapers and contractors are demanding more cordless alternatives to gas- powered outdoor power equipment. Makita is meeting demand with an expanding line of cordless OPE, including the 36V (18V X2) LXT® Brushless 16” Chain Saw (XCU04CM). With zero emissions, lower noise, and considerably less maintenance, the XCU04CM is a welcome solution for cutting and trimming applications. It’s powered by two 18V LXT® 4.0Ah Batteries for maximum power, speed and run-time. And with the efficient Makita® outer rotor brushless motor with direct drive system, users get high power efficiency that is equivalent to a 32cc gas chain saw. The XCU04CM has a 16” guide bar and the Makita-built outer rotor brushless motor direct drive system motor with variable speed delivers 0-3,940 FPM for increased cutting speed. It has zero emissions and reduced maintenance: there's no engine oil to change, no spark plug to replace, and no air filter or muffler to clean. And there's no need to drain the fuel for storage. Simply pick it up, load two 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Batteries, and the saw is ready to use. Convenience features include a tool- less chain adjustments, a front hand guard engineered to actuate chain brake when engaged, an electric brake for maximum productivity, and more. It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18V LXT System, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V lithium-ion slide-style batteries. Makita® 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls™. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita® 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.

  • Possibly the best you can buy at this price range
Size: Chain Saw Kit (Two 4.0Ah Batteries)
This Makita XCU04CM is possible the best battery powered chainsaw on the market. You need to know its limitations though. The 1st one I purchased, quite literally, caught on fire. What did I expect? I made the mistake in believing it was like a gas powered chain saw (which it is NOT). Here was my error: I took down a Yellow Pine that was at least 120' high. The trunk was at least 12" across. I cut it down because it was dead (eat up with bark beetles). This saw cut an incredible wedge. I was shocked when the tree fell with no issues! I was singing the praises of this saw until about 2/3 through the job. This saw was the complete boss but I was running it flat out for over an hour when it started smoking from the motor and I had to stop. I had killed my Makita! I made the mistake of running this saw TOO hard and TOO fast and with TOO much torque excerpted on the motor.. By the way, that saw was exchanged on warranty. It took about 3 months but, in the end, I got a brand new Makita! I just finished purchasing an identical saw to the 1st one. I have cut down at least 8 dead pine trees on my property (much smaller trees though). As long as you realize this Makita has to be semi-babied then it is a rock-solid device. ALSO, important, I've been greasing the chain bar with high temp grease. This keeps the saw from working too hard and, I hope, will extend the life. ... show more

  • Great saw for most property maintenance.
Size: Chain Saw Kit (Two 4.0Ah Batteries)
I have 2.5 acres of heavily wooded land. There are a number of quaking aspen and jack pine trees on the property. i've had several die or fall in the last few years. I used this Makita saw limbing, dropping and cutting up trees. This saw has worked great. I appreciate how simple it is to tighten and change the chain. When it's sharp the battery life it pretty good, but once the chain gets dull you might only get half the tree done. I was using 4ah batteries, using 5 or 6ah would obviously improve the runtime. The power is similar to my friend's Husqvarna 235. ... show more

  • Excellent chainsaw
Size: Chain Saw Kit (Two 4.0Ah Batteries)
This works surprisingly well. Cut through an aged tree trunk with ease. Sharp blade, enough power without the hassle of gas.

  • Bought anther one, and another one
Size: Chain Saw Kit (Two 4.0Ah Batteries)
Liked my first one enough to get another one. I have three now. The work well with only saw issue of the sprocket wearing out. It takes abbout a year to wear it out, but costs about $10 to get a new one, and installation is easy.

  • Good value

Excellent, my husband said it was perfect for smaller tree trimming jobs.

  • Light, dependable for smaller jobs.
Size: Chain Saw Kit (Two 4.0Ah Batteries)
I like this little chain saw. Easy to use. You must clean it meticulously between uses to prevent clogging. Locate source for replacement chains and guides. Good 18 v battery runs strong until depleting. Quick recharge.

  • Awesome Chain Saw!
Size: Chain Saw Kit (Two 4.0Ah Batteries)
Being a user of gas powered chainsaws in the past, I was kind of skeptical going to an electric battery powered chain saw. I love Makita tools but I thought they may have met there match with this one... boy was I wrong. This saw is the real deal!!! I was tired of fumbling with the gas powered saw so I broke down and bought one of these, more so just for ease of use. Don't have to worry about mixing fluids and the dreaded pull start cord. This thing at a push of the button fires right up and chews through wood like no other! Blew though a 10 inch round tree multiple times without even a hiccup. Saw some negative reviews about the 4 second thing... wasn't an issue on the saw I got. Also for the people complaining about the included chain... While it's always good to have a back up just in case, the included chain is an Oregon brand chain... they are some of the best out there and this one is no different. Make sure you got the right tension on your chain and make sure you fill the bar/chain reservoir on the saw (saw does not come with bar and chain oil, it has to be bought seperate and is very much crucial) and you will have no issues. This chain and saw blew though trees like a hot knife though butter! You will not be disappointed! ... show more

  • Bad choice
Size: Chain Saw Kit (Two 4.0Ah Batteries)
This has only worked for the first two weeks. After that, the chain jumped and damaged the bar. Put a new Makita bar and chain on, same thing happened again, even after tightening it properly. The bar never properly lubricated which may be the problem with this chainsaw. At least I can use the batteries on my other devices. ... show more
