  • Highly-efficient breaking BEAST!
Style: Tool Only
Great hammer. I've used all of them out there from Bosch to Hilti to Dewalt to pneumatic, compressor-based breakers to Bobcat demo breakers (my favorite). For the buck, I think this Makita is the best. Here's why. Compared with other breakers, it's priced competitively. It comes with cart (quality is ok, nothing to cheer about...but it works reliably with thin solid tires) and 2 bull point and 2 flat chisels. I used one chisel for a hour and it didn't dull at all. It sits at the perfect height and just keeps you wanting to break more and more. As for power, this hits like a massive dead blow sledge hammer. There was very little dust compared to a 90lb pneumatic jack hammer and next to no vibration to operator. It's definitely not as aggressive and powerful as a 90lb breaker bouncing all over the place making dust. Yes, it's heavy--as it should be--and this helps direct the energy to the work area. So don't expect to be using it out of position like some surgical instrument. In a way, breaking concrete with this breaker is similar to ultrasonic cleaning: it's doing a lot very efficiently but without things flying all over wasting energy. Ultimately, it's super convenient to have at your disposal this solid powerhouse without buying or renting a heavy (read: expen$$$ive) compressor and breaking gear including cumbersome hoses, etc. Oh yeah, breaking in cold temperatures? Good luck with your equipment icing up. Not a problem with an electric breaker. Bottom-line is for under $1,500, you'll be breaking anything short of miles of highway or heavily reinforced nuke power plant containment concrete. Also, with several attachments you'll have quite a bit of flexibility. For lighter duty and even more flexibility in a far lighter package, consider buying a Makita HR5210C 2-Inch AVT SDS-MAX Rotary Hammer (I own and also rate 5-star). This is an amazing tool for driving ground rods and dowelling rebar to breaking, scaling and drilling concrete to removing tile, digging hard soil, cutting roots, etc. By far I use the 2-inch rotary hammer most and can't say enough good things about it and its productivity/versatility. Now, if you're in a confined space, drilling smaller holes in concrete (say <3/4-inch), or doing feather-duty work, consider a Bosch RH328VC 1-1/8-Inch SDS Rotary Hammer. It's feather-duty but nonetheless a great driller, scaler/chipper, etc. you can handle all day, all week long. This 1-1/8-inch was my first beyond 1/2-inch rotary drill that I bought over 7-years ago (older model but still operates like new). Now the 1-1/8-inch won't drive ground rods like the 2-inch, but the 2-inch won't break concrete like the 70lb breaker. So while each tool has some cross-over functionality, don't expect too much outside the tool's respective capability. So, yes, buy the right tool(s) for the job(s) and don't stretch the tools too far beyond their intended use, or otherwise you'll be ineffective at best and severely disappointed and hurt/sore at worst. I own all three of these great tools (and many 1/2" hammer drills and more) and use each one regularly with confidence. I'm 100% satisfied with each of these purchases--the most recent being this 70 lb breaker--which regrettably I rented for years. Conclusively, here's a special thanks to Amazon for making the decision and purchase so easy. ... show more

  • Vibration control excellent
Style: Tool Only
Great item, have used it several times now and the vibration control is well worth the extra money on this model. I'm usually pretty cheap but this model was worth the extra money. I was very surprised at how much you really feel vs the size of this unit.

  • A Heavy Duty Breaker Hammer
Style: Tool Only
This is a heavy duty 70 lb. breaker hammer. I've used this model several times in the past and it has plenty of power to break a 6" concrete slab. Most of my work involves plumbing repairs under house slabs or driveways. So far I've not had to use this hammer on thicker concrete so I don't know how it will handle it. This model came with two flat chisels and two pointed. The two wheel cart is heavier duty than many I've used in the past. The cord for this breaker hammer is extra long and heavy duty. If you need a longer cord for this hammer make sure you use a heavy duty rated cord. A lighter gauge cord will burn out your motor brushes more often. But don't worry if you do burn out your brushes they are rather easy to replace and you'll be back in business in a matter of minutes. (If you have the brushes that is:) A great heavy duty hammer, with a comparable two wheel cart and four hard chisels. Quite a package! ... show more

Been using this hammer for a few months now to remove concrete slab for basement waterproofing systems. Works great with plenty of power. It is heavy but worth the lift.

  • good job
Style: Tool Only
This hammer has been very useful for the project that I'm doing (breaking out a rockwall footing. It weighs about 90 lbs. so it isn't easy to lift, but that's what's needed to break rock and cement. It's electric so no compressor is needed. It was about $200 cheaper than Home Depot and it came with 2 pointed and two wedge chisels as part of the package. I paid about $80 to rent the same thing for just one day, and I needed this to be available when I'm ready to use it because I couldn't run it all day. I got tired after about 2 hours. The rental would have cost me way too much over time. Travel time to the store over several weeks would have taken a big toll on my time and my patience. ... show more
