  • Great Drill
Style: Rotary Hammer Only
This is a great drill. Got lots of power and is not too heavy. That said its a Dewalt so it will likely Not last as well as say Hilti for instance.

  • Strong and handy
Style: Rotary Hammer Only
Bought a used one because of the great deal on it. And used it for chipping out solid concrete for boxes that go in the walls and did the job like butter. It’s of course a heavier drill but that’s to be expected when you want more power.

  • A Concrete Eating Machine.
Style: Rotary Hammer Only
I wanted a battery sds hammer drill for my personal projects and being that I have the 20V max drill/ hammer, impact and small band saw this seemed like the logical choice. I've used many different sds style battery drills working for different contractors over the years so I am quite familiar with the different brands, Hilti of course always seems to be the leader in the industry, but Milwaukee and Dewalt are not giving up much these days. The two choices were the DCH273B and this one the DCH293B, I figured I'd go with the latest and greatest model. When I pulled it out of the box my first thought is "this thing is a beast!" I installed a 5ah battery on the drill and realized that this is every bit the weight and size of a Hilti TE6A, which as anyone knows who has lugged one of those up and down a ladder all day it can be a bit of a task. To be honest I am thinking maybe the slightly smaller and lighter DCH273B may have been a better choice for my needs. This model (DCH293B) has twice the hammer power than it's smaller brother and you realize it as soon as you use it. The first hole I drilled was through a metal pan deck into concrete to set a 1/4" drop in anchor, it did it with ease. This drill is advertised as being German designed, I am guessing that Dewalt is licensing the hammer mechanism from Hilti or Matabo sds hammer drill because it rips through material like either one of those drills do. Again, it should because the drill is no light weight. As far as the build is concerned it seems pretty solid. I did take notice of the rubber boot that covers the shock absorber on the top of the handle, I can see this as being the first thing that will end up destroyed, the rubber isn't as heavy as it should be for a drill that receives the abuse that one of these end up getting. Being this is for my personal use I'll be a bit more careful how it gets handled, but if you are buying this as a drill where a multitude of people are using and abusing, it'll be ripped off the unit within 3 or 4 months. The spring used in the vibration absorber could be heavier as well, you can bottom it out to easily. Honestly Dewalt would have been better off using a piece of heavy rubber to absorb the vibration. Sometimes simple is better, these drills receive to much abuse to build it with a mechanism like this. I hope I am wrong. The way that I ordered this was as a bare tool, so no case is included. As you can see in the photo I purchased a Dewalt case separately (DWST17808) which worked out well because it has a tray in the top of the lid that you can store bits and setting tools. The case was around $25 and the foam inset was another $13, so for around $38 dollars you have a case that is quite convenient as the bits are stored separately and not bouncing around the inside of the case. As far as durability of the case I don't believe it'll be as indestructible as the case that would come with it if you bought this tool as a complete set. Take notice that there is no room for a charger and extra battery storage. I personally don't mind this because the case is smaller and easier to carry around, the main purpose of a battery hammer drill is for convenience. If drilling a ton of holes I'll break out the 120V Hilti. I hope this review was helpful, I know how it is racking your head when investing in a tool with a price tag such as this. As a final thought and solely an opinion. If you are contractor buying a battery rotor hammer drill go with the Hilti, but if you are buying for personal work on the side this drill is more than sufficient. I only say this considering that I see Hilti drills get abused all day everyday in the snow, mud, rain covered in concrete dust and they seem to just keep going and going and going. There is a reason why you see them in every gang box of union contractors, they cannot afford to have one go down. Wasted labor costs out weigh the price of a cheap tool. ... show more

  • Worth its weight in gold!
Style: Rotary Hammer Only
Highly recommended to any contractor who regularly drills concrete to anchor items to walls ceilings or floors. One of the best tools I have purchased. Quiet, powerful and extremely capable whether you are drilling a 1" whole in a slab or 5/16" hole in the wall for an anchor. Time and effort are drastically reduced in comparison to a small handheld electric hammer drill. It is a bit heavier compared to other products on market (Hilti) but at 1/3 the price with batteries that are universal to other tools I own I can live with a few more ounces. ... show more

  • Best value (joules per dollar). Makes quick work out of concrete!!!
Style: Rotary Hammer Only
I thought hammer drills were great for concrete and masonry work for the casual DIY'er for 20 years. Took on a large home improvement project anchoring walls to the floor and burnt up so many drill bits that I stopped and ordered this beast and I'm glad I did. I was able to knock out all 30 3/8" anchors in no time at all, practically effortless, no burnt up bits, I'm in love! If you're ever going to drill multiple concrete holes, this is a must buy!! ... show more
