Had a Ring doorbell for years, then I got this bad boy and immediately sold my Ring on facebook marketplace and ordered another one of these for the backdoor. They're truly vastly superior to the Ring products I tried, in every way. Motion capture is better, and recordings work better, and they have facial recognition that Ring doesn't even have!!! I seriously encourage you to read all about this device, everything they say is true, it's fantastic. The Circle View Doorbell is an absolutely amazing device, once you get the firmware updated anyway! That is the only issue, when I got my first camera, it did a firmware update overnight and was unresponsive the next day and I had to do a factory reset about 7 times before it would reconnect. Once it was added back to homekit though, it's been flawless ever since. The 2nd camera did the firmware update, but just reconnected before I woke up the next day and has been perfect ever since. Another thing worth mentioning is that the Apple HomePod and HomePod Mini are notorious for causing serious network issues and will cause these cameras and other smarthome devices to become unresponsive. I've even had my internet stop working until I removed the HomePod and rebooted the router.

I bought the Logitech Circle View after doing a lot, but obviously not enough, research online. I selected it because it was compatible with Apple HomeKit, Logitech's online compatibility checker said it would work with our existing door chime, and because its built-in light enables color video at night. So, what are the problems? First, it's NOT compatible with our existing door chime. Our home was built in 1984 and uses 8v DC to power the doorbell. One of the good things about the Logitech product is that it works with a wide range of DC currents, from 5v up to 24v. However, after 2 hours installing the unit and double checking all connections, the chime would not ring. Technical support told me that, despite what their compatibility checker said, our existing door chime was not supported and I'd need to buy a new one. So, I bought and installed an Apple Homepod Mini. Now, pressing the button produces a sound inside our home. Second, at a little after 7:00 this morning, I received an alert that the door camera had gone offline due to excessive heat. Our house faces East, so the doorbell is in direct sunlight until about 10 am when the porch roof blocks the sun. Logitech warns that direct sunlight may cause the unit to overheat, but that happens with less than 2 hours of early morning sunlight? Worse, looking for solutions to the problem, I learned that this door camera won't operate at temperatures above 104 degrees F. I live in Mesa, Arizona. This thing won't work if its mounted in the shade for most of June, July, August, and September! Worse, because the doorbell will only make a sound when its connected to my Homepod Mini, and because it disconnects with the Homepod whenever the camera is offline because of heat, pressing the doorbell produces no sound inside our home. (If our existing door chime had been compatible, it would still sound even when the camera is off due to excessive heat.) There are many things to love about this door bell, if only it would work reliably. It won't work reliably in much of the desert Southwest. In the US, even more temperate climes often have a few days each year of temperatures above 100 degrees. If you can live with a few days in which your door camera doesn't work, this unit might be a good choice. However, I consider a video door bell to be an important security component for our home. A few days of unreliability would be unacceptable. Bottom line: Logitech shouldn't be selling this camera until they address this heat issue. For those of us in the desert Southwest, it's acceptable for interior use only.

UPDATE: For those in Canada considering buying this but are worried about freezing temperatures, it was about -41℃ (-41.8℉) in my city in Alberta last night, Dec. 28, 2021, and my doorbell is working fine. It still has been flawless since I got it in September 2021. UPDATE 2: This lovely doorbell is now available in Canada through Apple Store or Logitech's Canadian website! 🇨🇦 I ordered one because we need a new doorbell. I have invested so much in HomeKit, and everyone in the house loves the integration in our Apple devices. I have been eyeing this one ever since Logitech launched it last year. I am in Canada, and until now, this is only available in the US—but I am glad Amazon US ships to its neighbour now. There is another HomeKit doorbell from Netatmo, but it is priced at CA$399. It's not as sexy as this, and it doesn't have HomeKit Secure Video. I am not spending that much. The installation should be easy, as long as your existing wired doorbell system is compatible. Visit Logitech's website to check if yours is compatible. The doorbell requires a micro-USB cable; make sure you have enough power (at least 5V 2A) to set it up. Otherwise, the setup will fail. If you don't have that cable or enough power supply, you can set it up after mounting its case and connecting its Chime Kit. The power from your doorbell's transformer is enough. I never had offline or overheating issues, even when facing direct sunlight (as you can see in my photos). I am guessing the new firmware version, 8.12.15, really helps as one of its changelogs is "faster recovery from external factors" that can cause such issues. Its HomeKit integration is seamless. I always love it when five of our HomePods announce who is at the door when recognized. If it's someone new, you can register their names or "train" its face recognition, so Siri will announce their names in the future. iOS 15 also has package detection now. It is nice to get notified, especially on the Apple TV, when you have a package or someone at your door. The picture quality is excellent—way better than any of the smart doorbells my friends have. It does look amazing at night, especially when you have another light source like an outdoor wall light. I can't say much about WiFi issues because every house varies. For example, can your router manage streaming well? How far is your access point? How many WiFi networks from your neighbours interfere with yours? I have a mesh network using TP-Link Deco M9 routers. My HomeKit experience is flawless, even with five other cameras—one Logi Circle View and four Logi Circle 2. This device works well as long as you have a good WiFi network. It doesn't matter if your internet provider gives you the fastest speed in the world. Still, if your local network is congested or your router cannot manage multiple devices well, you will always have issues. If you are looking for a HomeKit doorbell, get this one already.

However, after implementing a workaround, it has shown significant improvement, earning it a solid four-star rating. Initial Hiccups: ⭐⭐⭐ Upon initial setup, the Logitech Circle View had its fair share of difficulties when it came to communication and reliability. It was frustrating to deal with connectivity issues and inconsistent performance. A Solution Emerges: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The turning point came when I decided to install another Eero hotspot closer to the device and connect it via an ethernet cable. This workaround drastically improved the camera's reliability and performance. It's a testament to the importance of a strong and stable Wi-Fi connection. Improved Reliability: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Since implementing the workaround, the Logitech Circle View has become a much more reliable smart camera. It now delivers on its promise of monitoring and security with greater consistency, providing peace of mind to users. Final Verdict: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ While it's encouraging to see the Logitech Circle View improve with the workaround, the initial difficulties cannot be overlooked. The extra steps required to ensure reliable performance are a minor inconvenience. However, once set up correctly, this smart camera does an excellent job. It offers decent value for the security it provides, earning it a solid four-star rating. In conclusion, the Logitech Circle View is a smart camera that shows promise with the right adjustments. I have had this Logitech camera doorbell for 2 years and have been really happy with it. It’s reliable, the images are clear, and I can easily see and speak to people who come to my door. I like that the doorbell offers an angled mounting bracket. The angle helps me see my porch, front walkway, and a good portion of my driveway. The camera reliably detects people, animals, packages and cars. It’s great to get notified that someone is pulling into my driveway. It’s also easy to view recorded videos and save them. I will say that you need to be somewhat tech savvy to use Apple Home, not just for this doorbell. There is a slight learning curve, and it takes a little reading and researching to understand how Home works. It’s not difficult at all, and if you enjoy tech stuff it’s fun. Plus, I’d rather be the person to manage my cameras, etc. rather than depend on a security company to do it. About once a year I have to remove the front plate of my doorbell, reset it and add it back to my home. I’ve found that this usually happens after a major iOS software update. *TIP* If your doorbell is acting glitchy, check to see if your Apple TV (if that’s the hub you use) needs a software update. That’s happened to me 3-4 times in 2 years and the glitch goes away after updating my Apple TV. Fortunately I have not had a lot of issues with overheating, even though I live in a hot and humid climate where my doorbell gets afternoon sun. About 2-3 times each summer the doorbell overheats but comes back on within a short time. For me, I like the reliability and privacy of this Logitech doorbell, so the few occasions of overheating don’t bother me. I highly recommend this doorbell.

This was three days of Hell with constant updates and re-calibrations to my entire network for squat! I have photos, videos and log data of the absolute nightmare this device creates. First, let me inform you I am a registered Apple Developer. I have 20 years of experience with automation and IT. I do this for a living. This device responded to NONE of the instructions provided. Even factory reseting the device 6 times would produce NO success. Place the phone on top of the device and it's detected... no problem. Do not touch a thing... and it will still fail with one or more errors after 10 minutes. I had the Video Doorbell on top of a router with the iPhone on top of the Video Doorbell. Would still receive "Lost Connection to Device", or several other errors that made equally zero sense. It's near impossible to troubleshoot an "Unknown Error" especially when you have NO access to log files because "Device Is Unreachable". What I found was this device requires a new "Home". Attempting to connect this to my existing "Home" with 27 devices running perfectly for multiple years... nothing but errors. If you select "Create New Home"... Logitechs instructions work perfectly. Then you just have to spend the day running around your house removing faceplates from electrical switches and climbing in your garage to reinstall overhead openers and all 27 devices into a new "Home" only to find out the Doorbell loses connection at about 8 feet from the router. (Final Straw) I literally have door contacts, connected to HomeKit, running on a CR2032 with NO ISSUES... FYI: further from the router than the Doorbell. I have used Ring, Ring Pro and Ring Pro 2. Not because of upgrades, but you should know these are not buttons, Video Doorbells need replacement every two to three years. I NEVER had a connection issue with Ring. I tried 2.4GHz, 5GHz, 6GHz and DFP (Radar). It’s crap. Even if you go to Logitechs “Support” forum, there are no answers. To the point a question says “Solved”, but you need to call support and open a ticket to see the answer. Take it from me… that’s not solved. There are several other customers questioning these methods in the forums as well. My professional advise, buy a Ring and Hoobs or HomeBridge because the “Apple” solutions are not solutions, just problems with an expensive price tag.

Update 2025 - Unfortunately this doorbell was a struggle to work with over the years while owning it. I was plagued by constant shutdowns in the winter time due to the sun making the doorbell overheat (there's really no reason for this to be happening, It's talked about everywhere as a big defect of the camera so it's just an awful design for an OUTDOOR device) Outside of the overheating from sunlight in the winter time, It would also shut down occasionally in the summer. There would be several times where it would not detect motion when there was motion clearly happening (although a lot of this could probably be blamed on how Apple handles all of that through homekit....sometimes you need to reset your home hubs to fix it as they're the "brains" for the camera itself.) Then I would have an even worse issue to where it would see motion when there was none. And this was even with adding all the restrictions, activity zones, and trying multiple different lighting settings. Ultimately i determined the sensor itself was malfunctioning and "seeing" motion when there was none due to the camera going in and out of focus randomly while viewing recordings and live feeds. I tried to reach out to Logitech over this because it doesn't seem like a typical failure and was hoping they would simply warranty this as I figured it was most likely caused by the device constantly overheating. Sadly the customer service rep I spoke with said they couldn't do anything as it was outside of the 1 year warranty. I honestly cannot recommend this device to others....It's probably the best quality Homekit doorbell video wise....but the overheating is troublesome and it seemingly leads to even further issues and failures as I've experienced. Logitech really needs to re-design this from the ground up and they could truly have the whole homekit doorbell market easily within their grasp. Unfortunately they don't seem to care about the critical engineering failures within their design and that's further enforced through their incredibly short warranty period for an outdoor device. For the price you pay for this, you should really get a lot more. I was excited when I first got this and got it installed....and it worked great within that first year....but it doesn't seem to last much past that. I will be trying a different doorbell in the future, hopefully something nicer comes out by the time my error ridden Logitech eventually goes into it's final shutdown from overheating. Original Review - 2023 I decided to pick up this Logitech Circleview Doorbell for Homekit for one main reason: I wanted to get off the Ring Doorbell platform. Homekit Doorbells that are natively supported are few and far between. You have this one, one made by Wemo (belkin), and the new Aqara G4 Doorbell. Look up a few reviews on any of these and you'll find the following as the main focuses for each: Logitech - It overheats (supposedly this has been fixed from the latest firmware...I picked this up in March before the heat from summer so I'm not sure how this will reflect on my purchase...fingers crossed) Wemo - Disconnects all the time (unreliable) Aqara - Has connection issues as of launch, and people are upset regarding the orientation of the camera (Orientation was the big reason I didn't want this) The Logitech was very easy to install, the only issue I had was the screws provided in the kit for mounting were very easy to strip. In their defense it's meant to be installed using the wall anchors, however since I had a previously installed smart doorbell I planned to simply screw back into the wood where the previous screw holes were made. The door chime in my kit doesn't appear to make my actual chime go off...however I suspect that something is wrong with our chime and won't blame Logitech for this. I'm pretty sure the previous owners of this house that installed the Ring did it incorrectly and swapped the Transformer wire and the Front doorbell wire at our chime....I had to swap these in order for the Logitech to actually be powered correctly. Initially I would ring the bell and the doorbell would start flashing a white light on the LED and lost connection. After switching the wires on the Chime Kit that come from the wall, it worked flawlessly. Initially the firmware wouldn't update on the camera after installing it, but it pushed the update overnight and it's now on the latest firmware. There was one disconnection and I'm assuming that disconnection was during the firmware update overnight. My wife did leave the house this morning and the doorbell didn't pick up on her leaving somehow...but we suspect this has to do with it not seeing her face and we have the specific motions setting turned on so it probably just didn't realize it was a person because of that. Overall we're very happy with the responsiveness of the doorbell so far, and we likely won't run into overheating issues until the summer gets here (hopefully we don't have any issues though). The video Quality is better than what we had on the Ring Pro, and we love the fact it has a bright light for Color video at night. We have a milk delivery where the delivery guy shows up around 3am and our porch light isn't always on when they show up (have an automation for it to be on when they typically arrive) Now we can set up an automation to turn it on if it detects motion for the delivery person (or intruder for that mater as a deterrent) but even if that fails, at least the cameras light will turn on when it see's motion regardless. I wasn't excited to drop $200 on this doorbell, but it's nice knowing that I won't have to drop $30 each year for basic functionality on the Ring, and I get better responsiveness and video quality now. Is this better than the Aqara G4 when it's $80 less? I think it is because of the overall video quality and the orientation of the physical camera....I don't regret my decision as of now, but if I run into issues I will surely come back and post my findings here.

Great device, I wish I would have switched from Ring long ago! Given the articles/reviews about Apple HomeKit Secure Video based video doorbells, I was hesitant to give the Logitech Circle View a try. In fact, before buying the Logitech I did buy and install another Ring video doorbell. The Ring Pro was awful with no better latency or performance than the Ring v1 unit that it was replacing. Yes, the video was HD but the long delay to connect was worse than with the v1 doorbell. It's not an issue with respect to WiFI or network speed as the speedtest upload results for WiFi from the front door are: • 608.27 Mbps upload with 4ms of latency • 510.07 Mbps download The Logitech Circle View is a dramatic improvement over the Ring v1 and also over the Ring Pro. • Connection to the camera following an alert or someone ringing the doorbell is nearly immediate. It is also consistently reliable. • Motion detection with the Circle View is so much more reliable than with Ring. I've read the opposite with articles claiming that the video based motion detection is unreliable. • Recordings all start -- as they should -- right before the motion! With Ring, we were constantly getting recordings that would start well after the initial motion (recordings of people walking away) often completely missing what was relevant and valuable • User interface with HomeKit is awesome and such a welcome relief vs. the bloat and "buy more stuff" interface that got completely out of control following the acquisition of Ring • Ease of access to and sharing of recordings is Apple simple and reliable I don't miss paying the $10 a month for access to the Ring recordings.
