  • Works perfectly
Solid design with no delays. Clear video

  • Works Great
This is my first foray into a video doorbell, and a couple of things come to mind. First it's nearly dead-simple to install and wire up. I will say that the instruction video provided by Google is a bit wonky and a little confusing, so I recommend finding other step by step videos out there to assist you. Secondly, Google's presentation and packaging is a breath of fresh air. The packaging and attention to detail is great. Yeah, it's packaging, no big deal, but it translates to the product itself. When I say attention to detail I'm talking about the inclusion of a spare clamp screw in case you lose one and the little attachment wires to aid in connecting to your existing doorbell wires; things like that. I've seen some review complaining about the video quality. The video quality is fine. It's a doorbell camera, it's meant to address people walking up to your door. It's more than adequate for identifying faces and packages. If you want something that you can surveil your yard or the street in front of your house, get a surveillance camera for that. At the end of the day if you're looking for a good smart doorbell you aren't going to go wrong with this. ... show more

  • Very handy doorbell and camera. Recommended. Very handy doorbell and camera. Recommended.
The installation process is app- and video-driven and couldn't be easier. Videos are online if you want a preview. And yes, you can almost certainly use your existing doorbell chime. I wanted to hear the doorbell wherever I am in the house and this delivers. It helps to have a Google household with Google speakers around, but it's not necessary. And the picture quality is excellent, day or night. Not sure how critical the subscription is because you get a few hours of recent video history for free. I've started the free trial to see what it's worth. And yes, your camera info stays in the US. In the attached picture, it's glowing because it sees me there. Excellent addition to the house. • Avoid. Literal garbage. See video comparison and decide for yourself
Google doing what they're best known for with this "gen 2," destroying a perfectly acceptable product they bought like Thomas Edison. This doorbell ONLY works with Google Home app. There is a "beta" web component, where you can only view live video. The Google Home/Asst app is absolute garbage for a doorbell. Unlike the actual nest app (which you CANNOT use with this!) you cannot create video clips yourself to export. So if the camera doesn't recognize something as an event (i'll get to this in a moment) you're stuck with a using screen capture tech on whatever device you can view the doorbell via. Disturbingly - someone literally shot my daughters room of my house. This SOMEHOW did not trigger ANY event detection (THANKS FOR REMOVING SOUND EVENTS GOOGLE). Oh and I haven't even GOT to the the terrible field of view compared to the first gen Nest doorbell. It's another awful step backwards too. THANKS FOR LETTING ME SEE WHAT SHOES PEOPLE ARE WEARING... instead of, you know, being able to see what's hiding behind the stupid wedge you forced me to use to be able to see the front door. . You will have to use a wedge to see whoever is on your porch because the field of view is incredibly narrow. ... show more

  • Highly recommend Highly recommend
Nicely packaged, easy to install and to use. The quality of the camera is great, I don't subscribe to Google nest right now but it allows an option to save a video if you want. Love that feature. Would recommend subscribing if you want visibility of all your videos within a duration of time. As a non subscriber you're limited on the amount of videos you can see depending on the amount of notifications you get (based on my observation the past 3 weeks of having this doorbell). Night vision works great too. Highly recommend, price seems reasonable and the product works as expected ... show more

  • Great video doorbell
Originally had the Nest Hello Doorbell (Gen 1). Finally time to replace as we noticed although we were able to watch videos just fine, it would stutter or practically pause when people doorbelled and it hindered us from being able to communicate live-time. The installation process of this Gen 2 wired Nest Doorbell was simple. Also noticed some improvements to the tools such as the doorbell wire adaptors which makes it easier to attach to Nest (although not required). With updates/changes/improvements Google is making, it’s also nice to have this be managed within the current Google Home app as now I don’t have to switch back and forth between Google Home app and Nest app. Previously with Gen 1, although I was able to load into the Google Home app, it was not smooth in live playback. The reason for only 4 stars is because I feel Google can work on another software update to further stabilize the video. It’s not my internet as I have purchased the highest offering available, and none of my other Google cameras experience issues. It sometimes seems as if the video doorbell needs to do a reload of the live playback which can be annoying especially when trying to immediately communicate with the person. Also, it does take almost 5 seconds for the microphone to actually turn on when communicating through the doorbell. Finally, the resolution of the video appears to have been downgraded by a bit compared to the Gen 1. The orientation of the video (i.e. more vertical than horizontal) isn’t an issue for me. That part is fine, it’s just the resolution I wish could be sharper or HD instead of HQ ... show more

  • Great product but...
Bottom line: I love this doorbell. I replaced my 1st generation Nest doorbell with the wired 2nd generation one. Pros: I definitely noticed the improved picture clarity- pretty amazing. I like the expanded vertical view too. I was also finally able to get rid of the Nest app and only use the Home app (I have two Nest cameras on Home). I did not have to update the transformer (I did that for the earlier version). Cons: The horizonal view is shortened by 15 degrees and that is very noticeable. I miss the more expanded view. Installation was a NIGHTMARE. There is no room for the wires and the 2nd generation adds about a 3" connector that just added to the problem. My house is older & brick so the existing doorbell wire is older and the space is limited. Plus, unless it is installed on a perfectly flat base, the screw sticks up just a tiny bit which will stop the doorbell from sliding on the metal attachments (also confusing). The screws stripped. Hot mess to get them out. Bought new screws...you get the picture. So while it says you can use the old holes (the ones for the 1st generation), I couldn't. I finally got it on, then had a hard time tightening the tiny screw into the top of the doorbell. Think limited space. Bottom line: other than the installation & the slightly narrower view, I really do like this doorbell. Also, some reviews complain about the camera cutting out. I've not had that issue at all (I did recently upgrade my internet router to a newer Netgear set which works great). ... show more

  • Running Into Issues
This review is for the Google Nest Doorbell Wired 2nd Gen in Linen color. I did a lot of review reading, both individual and professional reviews. I wasn't able to find a perfect solution for what I wanted. I really wanted something that had home server storage capability (not cloud storage) and had a good Android app. It seemed like there were some options available, but from what I could read they either had security flaws, were challenging to setup, or did not have a good app. What brought me to Nest was a decent security rating, they did not seem to be openly sharing video information, had one of the better cosmetic looks (I didn't want something ugly next to my front door), a good app, and great pricing plans. My install was not bad. I have a voltmeter and was able to confirm that I had enough volts and amps. So, I removed the old wired doorbell/intercom box, tested the volt/amps with my multimeter, attached the included capacitor to the doorbell chime, drilled holes for the Nest bracket, installed the bracket, trimmed the existing wires to size, and connected the Nest Doorbell. The proper lights showed up indicating the Nest Doorbell was receiving proper power. It did a software update and started working right afterwards. The setup was super easy and straightforward with the instructions and Google Home app. The video and audio looked and sounded good. The doorbell chime would not ring though. I could hear the motor buzz, but there just wasn't enough for both the Nest Doorbell and the chime to operate. I will need to find the transformer and upgrade it. The video and audio worked great for about a week. I have not tried the paid service options yet, so I am able to view live video, audio, intercom, and see motion events of prior three hours. I'm about a month in now, and for the past three weeks I get constant messages of camera not available, not able to see live feed, choppy intercom (my voice keeps cutting out), and far too often event videos keep saying not available yet. I have not been able to find the location of the current transformer, so I will need to upgrade it before I can determine if the issue is with the transformer, Nest Doorbell, or the cloud service. I am also running into issues with the alerts. You can create a zone on the app. You open the app to display alert area. It will show you the complete live camera view. You can then draw a six-point box of the portion of the view that you want the camera to alert you to motion for. You also have boxes you can check for alerts for anything, packages, animals, and people. I have it set for just packages and people. At first I didn't have a zone set up, so I was getting alerts anytime anyone walked down the sidewalk or a car was in the street. I created a zone to go to the end of the driveway before the sidewalk, but the shadows of the people on the sidewalk would trigger an alert. I decreased the zone size to get away from the shadows, but it still triggers alerts. I have shuck it down quite a bit. Now someone has to be halfway up my driveway before it triggers and alert. This was the largest I could make the zone without getting unnecessary alerts, so I'm not happy that the zone box is not accurate. Overall, I am not sure what my opinion is of this Google Nest Doorbell Wired 2nd Gen. There is a very good chance that some of my issues are being generated by the transformer. The doorbell chime not ringing is for sure because the transformer does not have enough watts. But according the indicator light on the Nest Doorbell, the doorbell is getting enough power. It is disappointing that the included capacitor for the doorbell chime is not doing its job to make the chime work. I am not happy about the constant messages of event videos not being ready yet. It reduces some of the security if you can't look at an event for minutes or hours. On a side note (not that I have used the free trial or paid services yet), the two available pricing plans are the best that I have seen from all the providers. It was one of the biggest selling points for me in choosing Google Nest Doorbell. If replacing the transformer will fix the video feed problems (also hopefully the audio too) and doorbell chime, then my goal would be to get multiple Nest Cameras added to the system and go with the premium paid service option. But first I have to see if I can get this Nest Doorbell working properly. ... show more
