Description

The Lodge Cast Iron 5-inch square Skillet is wonderful for cooking individual eggs or other small dishes. Cast iron loves a campfire, a stovetop, or an oven, and can slow-cook foods without scorching. It retains heat well so you can sear meat at higher temperatures and will keep your delicious meals warm for a long time. Whether used in a kitchen or camp, theses virtually indestructible cookware should last for generations. Made of cast iron, this Skillet evenly distributes heat from the bottom through the sidewalls. Sporting a stylish black color, the cast iron Skillet looks good in most kitchens and it doubles up as an excellent source of nutritional iron. This pre-seasoned skillet is ready-to-use right out of the box. While the skillet comes pre-seasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. The Lodge seasoning procedure is a multiple-step process in which the seasoning oil is applied via an electrostatic spray system that coats the cookware, then it’s baked in commercial ovens at very high temperatures. This allows the oil to penetrate deeply into the pores of the iron. This seasoning process achieves a seasoned finish that would take many months of home use to achieve. Sometimes during this process, the seasoning oil can collect and create a bubble or slight drip at the bottom of the pan as it’s hanging through the production process. And that in turn can turn brown as it’s processed through the seasoning ovens. This brown spot is not rust but in fact, carbonized seasoning and will darken with use. The factory seasoning process makes Lodge cast iron products ready to use right out of the box, and the product over time “Just keeps getting better”. After cooking, clean with a stiff nylon brush and hot water. Using soap is not recommended, and harsh detergents should never be used. Towel dry immediately and apply a light coating of oil to utensil while it is still warm. Cast Iron, like your grandmother used, still ranks as one of the best cooking utensils ever made. It gives you a nearly non-stick surface, without the possible harmful fumes generated by preheating chemically treated nonstick cookware. The American-based company, Lodge, has been fine-tuning its construction of rugged, cast-iron cookware for more than a century.

  • A very convenient little pan
Item Package Quantity: 1 Style: Black
I love cooking with cast iron, hate washing up the pan. Except for this one. It's big enough to make a fried breakfast, burger, sandwich or chop for one, small enough to clean up easily in a dishpan. With most of the surface area in use, food doesn't get baked on. It's small enough to take car camping and use on my little spirit stove, too. I also have the Norpro Mini Cast Iron Panini Pan with Press, which is very slightly larger. The two stack together and the press can be used on either. They make a great combo for minimalist cooks. ... show more

  • Size is a problem.
Item Package Quantity: 1 Style: Black
I bought this for two reasons: 1. it is a Lodge, 2. the info read that the pan was 5 inches by 5 inches. When I received this, it looked slightly small, so I measured the interior of the pan: it is 4.5 inches by 4.5 inches. That lack of a 1/2 inch makes a big difference to me. I re-read the size info on the insert in the pan, which says the pan size is 5.5 inches square. So Lodge needs to correct the info regarding the actual size of the pan, because I wouldn't have bought it at less than 5 inches. Only 3 stars because of the misinformation. ... show more

  • Handiest Pan I Own
Item Package Quantity: 1 Style: Black
For as long as I can remember my mother's kitchen had a little square skillet identical to this Lodge Logic L5WS3 Pre-Seasoned Wonder Skillet, 5-inch . Her's disappeared when my Dad had a house fire, so knowing it wouldn't be coming my way I purchased one of my very own. This little skillet hangs on my wall just by the stove, ready to do all those little jobs like grill just one sandwich, cook one burger, melt the butter, fry a single egg or make Eastern & Western omelets. While it isn't the most-used pan in my arsenal, it is certainly close. A word about "pre-seasoning" - Lodge pre-seasons their cast iron these days in order to prevent it from rusting during shipment and storage. That pre-seasoning should not be taken as anything like the well-aged, tremendously non-stick patina that cast iron acquires over use and time. It is not particularly non-stick when you first bring it home, particularly for things like eggs. You will need to use fat in the pan and the more you use it, the more non-stick it will become. There is a trick to cooking in cast iron, especially when it is new. First, let the pan sit over a burner until it becomes hot before you add your grease. That way food won't stick. Do remember when you wash this to put it over a burner for several minutes to evaporate any moisture and then coat it with a dab of oil. Grandma's $0.02 - this is the handiest pan I own - and made right here in the USA. Highly recommended ... show more

  • Awesome addition to your collection.
Item Package Quantity: 1 Style: Black
I almost want to start this review with just saying… It's made by Lodge.. what else is there needingto be said??? LOL For the holidays last year, I bought my son in law his first set of lodge cookware, he was so excited. Unfortunately for him my daughter doesn't do a lot of cooking so he had to pick up that task years ago. The good news is, he turned out to be quite amazing at it! It's funny, I've cooked for probably 30+ years and I do not own any cast-iron products and I bought my first ones for my son in law at Christmas, so when I saw this one go on sale on this site I got super excited. I immediately ordered it and send it out to him to add to his collection. He was super excited because this wasn't the first addition I've given him since the holiday purchase of his Lodge cookware. At this point his collection is growing quite large. This actually makes me happy because I was laying here last night thinking about him and all of his new lodge cookware and how he would pass them along to his kids one day... so I'm glad that I get to be a part of something that will last forever. As you know this company makes the finest cast iron cookware out there. We have not been disappointed yet and I don't anticipate having any issues come up with it ever. ... show more
