Description

The Lodge portable "camp stove" is the pot that does it all. The flanged lid holds hot coals and inverts for use as a griddle. The integral legs allow the oven to sit perfectly over hot coals. From colonial hearth fires to the campfires of Lewis and Clark, cast iron camp ovens fed the colonists, helped tame the wilderness, and did their share in settling the American West. Cast iron cookware has long been treasures as sought after heirlooms, so much so that, when Lewis and Clark returned from their journey west, their trusted cast iron pots were among the few items making it back to civilization. Like whiskey and tall tales, Lodge Cast Iron improved with age. There are few companies who can boast that products they made over 100 years ago remain in use today, and are still in high demand. You just won't find anyone who knows camp oven cooking like Lodge. Our camp ovens have proven themselves with avid outdoorsmen and patio pioneers from Tennessee to Tokyo. When you create a meal in Lodge Cast Iron, you create a memory that lasts a lifetime. Many of the pieces of cast iron cookware made in the Lodge Foundry over a century ago remain in use today. The Lodge Cast Iron Dutch Oven is a multi-functional cookware that works wonders with slow-cooking recipes. It comes with a tight- fitting lid that helps lock in nutrition and flavor. This pre-seasoned Dutch Oven works like a charm right out of the box. Made of cast iron, this Dutch Oven evenly distributes heat from the bottom through the sidewalls. Also, it retains heat better so your delicious meal remains warm for a long time. Sporting a stylish black color, the cast iron Dutch Oven looks good in most kitchens and it doubles up as an excellent source of nutritional iron. It features loop handles for convenient handling and the oven is easy to clean and maintain. A simple Cast-Iron Dutch Oven, like the one your grandmother used, still ranks as one of the best cooking utensils ever made. It gives you a nearly non-stick surface, without the possible harmful fumes generated by preheating chemically treated nonstick cookware. Many of the pieces of cast iron cookware made in the Lodge Foundry over a century ago remain in use today.

  • Cooks wonderfully and easy to maintain (See Tips)
Size: 5 Quart Style: Oven
The media could not be loaded. I was a cast iron denier for years because I read so much about the difficulty of maintaining it -- and for the fact that it is so heavy. I started experimenting with a no-name brand a year ago and got the hang of it until the bottom of its coating started flaking. I immediately went to by a Lodge instead and have been happy with the decision. I have since purchased a Dutch Oven version and it's been wonderful for camping. The remainder of this review is based on what I wrote about the Lodge 10" pan, but the same principles apply here. Pan is already pre-seasoned and smooth (compared to the no-name one), and maintenance has been really simple: after cooking, put water on the pan and heat it up. Then scrub with metal (chainmail scrubber) or wood to get the gunk off. Drain, rinse, heat up again to evaporate all the water, then apply a thin film of oil. If you have JUST received the pan, it's best to use bacon to season it per Lodge's instructions. We have made many meals with the cast iron and I use it for practically everything. Just put some olive oil or butter while heating up the pan slowly until desired temperature and cook. Maintains heat very well. Skip the silicone handle as that is NOT reliable at all -- started falling apart after just a couple months of usage. I just use a towel to hold the hot handle. Lid is a must for camping. I also like the Lodge "A5-11" tool to lift the lid with. ... show more

  • Great quality

...and not made in China. You'll give this to your grandkids one day. Of course, by then campfires will have been made illegal, as will gathering a cup of water from a stream without a permit. Make sure those grandkids know not to hang a hammock or they'll make a mark on the tree, which will subsequently destroy the ozone. Dont pitch a tent or even walk in the forest, so as to avoid stepping on a fallen leaf and thereby causing the utter destruction of the world's forests. Better yet, stay home in your 15-minute zone, hook up to your AR, and just pretend to be in nature. No fun allowed. Children can't just be children. It's better this way. ... show more

  • Lodge quality
Size: 5 Quart Style: Oven
Lodge quality is the best. This kettle can be used to cook a number of foods. I gave it a median score on easy to clean as anyone with cast iron knows it has to be cared for in proper fashion to keep it at its best. I’d buy lodge cast iron products again.

I bought this as a gift for my husband! He really likes it! He cooked some really good potatoes in it! It does take a while to heat up and cook. I guess that’s anything you cook over a fire.
