  • Excellent 8 inch skillet in Lodge's BOLD line
This is a new addition to Lodge's BOLD line exclusive to Amazon. This skillet joins the 10 inch and 12 inch versions. The BOLD line boasts a modern design, with gently sloping sides and wide flat handles. You can also get Dutch ovens and griddles in this style. The skillet came in an Amazon box containing the factory box from Lodge with the pan inside. So double boxed insuring perfect condition of the skillet. Don't let the modest size fool you, the 8 inch size is perfect for making an omelet or frying a hamburger or grilled cheese sandwich. It's also easier to clean than a larger pan. A great pan to have and very useful. I love it! ... show more

  • Great when you're cooking for one
I love this little pan just as much as its bigger brothers. It is perfect for quickly frying up a little meal for one. I've been using it to make one-egg omelettes for snacks and it works great for that too. As others have said, it is a very small skillet. The 8 inch measurement is across the top of the pan, and it tapers down toward the bottom. If you are looking to fry one hamburger patty, this is the right pan. The same design is available in 10 and 12-inch versions, though, so it's not hard to find the right size. Quality-wise this pan seems identical to all the Lodge products I have used over the years. It starts out great and will only get better with use and age. Some other reviewers have complained about rough surfaces in their cast iron products. I don't believe Lodge's castings are any rougher than other manufacturers, and all my Lodge products (between my mother and I we total 8 skillets and 6 dutch ovens) have been consistently finished. They get smoother over time as you build up seasoning and slowly reshape the iron, but even with the first use of my brand new 8-inch pro-logic skillet I was able to keep eggs from sticking. Not too shabby. One nice thing about cast iron is that if you don't like the shape you can actually sand it smoother. It'll take a lot of elbow grease, and you'll have to re-season the pan afterward, but you certainly can't do that with any other non-stick surface. My only complaint is that the Lodge Pro-logic line is not more readily available. I ordered this 8-inch and a 10-inch at the same time about 6 weeks ago. I received my 8-inch after a month of waiting and the 10 inch hasn't shipped yet. They don't seem to be available anywhere else either (not even direct from Lodge!) so there must be a supply shortage. Maybe Lodge only casts these pans once a year? I just checked Lodge's site again and it looks like everything is back in stock there, so maybe Amazon will be shipping the rest of my order soon. ... show more

  • Amazing value
I've been using cast iron cookware for 25 years. Lodge brand has been a favorite for the past 7-8 years because it represents excellent value, is still made right here in America in TN, and because the quality is generally really good. This new Lodge Pro*Logic series really has made an old standard, even better. The gently sloping sides are more in line with non cast iron skillets, but it has the full bennefits of being cast iron, such as being the original non-stick surface, and not having to worry about peeling coatings. The generously proportioned handle is flatter, beefier, and curved just right for easy use. I can easily flip fried eggs in this new 8" Prologic cast iron skillet, and that's more than I can say for the stubby handled 8" generic cast iron skillet that it's replacing. The 8" size sloped sided Prologic skillet has it's limitations, and that is due to it's capacity. Really, this pan is at it's best frying a couple of eggs or making a portion of something else for one. I'm eagerly awaiting it's 10" counterpart, as I use a 10-12" skillet far more often than these littler ones. But, for $10 shipped, it's really hard to beat this 8" skillet, and it's a size a lot of folks will find handy for a variety of uses from quick reheats to quick breakfasts. ... show more

  • Very happy with this purchase
I have replaced all my cephalon cookware with cast iron and stainless steel. The general consensus is that these pans are a bit harder to take care of. For me, this is not true. I use skillets for sauteing and cooking eggs, and with a coating of vegetable oil or butter, sauteed vegetables and eggs clean up with hot water and a quick scrub with a brush. It took a little more effort to clean the nonstick pans from the day they came out of the box, and a lot more effort within a few months as the coating began to deteriorate. If you are considering replacing all of your non-stick pans, you'll want to get a stainless steel pan or two for tomato products and liquidy soups, which can dissolve the "seasoning" off of a cast-iron skillet. Of course, it's easy to build the seasoning back up again, but why bother? ... show more

  • Very small
I like baking in a cast iron skillet but this is too small for much more than an egg. I should have read the description better.

  • Lodge = Best
I have many different sizes of Lodge skillets and I bought this 6 years back. Nothing to complain, and it keeps getting better with years of use.
