  • WHAT IS PORCELAIN ENAMEL ON CAST IRON? It is glass that becomes bonded to the cast iron at high temperatures. A particulate of glass, called frit, is applied to the cast iron vessel and then baked at temperatures between 1200 and 1400 F. The glass frit melts and fuses to the cast iron, forming a bond. Porcelain enamel on cast iron is heat tolerant and impervious to water and other consumables.
  • EASY TO COOK AND CLEAN: The porcelain enameled interior has a smooth finish that minimizes sticking, promotes caramelization and resists staining. Although enameled cast iron is dishwasher safe, hand washing with warm soapy water and a nylon scrub brush is recommended to keep your Dutch Oven in tip top shape!
  • HEAT RETENTION: The cast iron vessel has superior heat distribution and retention, evenly heating throughout both the bottom and sidewalls. The tightly fitting lid seals in moisture for scrumptious pot roast, stews or a large batch of beans. Our heat retention also reduces the amount of energy needed for cooking.

I had my previous dutch oven for about 20 years and used it a lot, so I thought it was time for a replacement. I have a Lodge cast iron skillet, which is impressive, and after a lot of research decided to go with them for the new dutch oven. After reading that some units showed up with chips, I inspected mine closely and was happy to find no chips. It was packaged really well so I wasn't surprised. Lodge is an American company. Although their cast iron pieces are made in the US, these enameled pieces are made in China to Lodges specs and standards. They now make a line of enameled units in the US, but they are quite a bit more money than the Chinese-mades ones and they are only available on their web site. I would highly recommend this dutch oven or their American-made ones if you can afford it - Cooks beautifully, cleans up easily and looks great on the stove. ... show more

If you have a dutch oven that is cats iron.. get THIS instead.. no worries abotu rust or pissble degradation of the season.. you can scrub till the cows coem home.. it's large.. can be used on the stove or int he oven.. it hodls heat perfectyl and evenly.. i i'm gonna make thansksgiving trurkey and veggies in it :D ... show more

I have a full set of le Creuset and love them but they are $$$$$$. I picked up a smaller version of this pot to use at our cabin and I love it. If I didn't know better I'd think it was a Le Creuset! I ordered this large pot to use for stew and chili this winter. Great price for a really good product. I'd give it ten stars!!!! ... show more

I bought a 7.5 oz Lodge casserole pot after researching all that are out there. Being so enamored I was purchasing from an American home grown family that prided itself on American values, I chose Lodge. I just about had a heart attack when my Enameled Casserole pot arrived with the big letters "MADE IN CHINA!" was stamped on the box!!! I was NOT a happy camper! Doing more sleuthing, apparently the Lodge Cast Ironware are made here in America, whereas the USA Enamel (Tm), and Lodge Enamelware are made in China. Very deceiving if you ask me. I guess anybody can be bought for the right price. I'm not sure what to do. I love my pot, but Le Cassoulet is the next contender and they are triple the price. Now I'll research more to see who hasn't sold out their customers. 😒 ... show more
