Description

The Lodge Cast Iron 2-Quart Serving Pot is a multi- functional cookware that works wonders with slow-cooking recipes and all your favorite foods. Cook up baked beans, soups and stews. This cookware piece goes from stovetop to tabletop for serving. Cast iron loves a campfire, a stovetop, or an oven, and can slow-cook foods without scorching. It retains heat well so you can sear meat at higher temperatures and will keep your delicious meals warm for a long time. Whether used in a kitchen or camp, theses virtually indestructible cookware should last for generations. Made of cast iron, this pot evenly distributes heat from the bottom through the sidewalls. Sporting a stylish black color, the cast iron cookware looks good in most kitchens and it doubles up as an excellent source of nutritional iron. This pre-seasoned cookware is ready-to-use right out of the box. While the cookware comes pre- seasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. The Lodge seasoning procedure is a multiple-step process in which the seasoning oil is applied via an electrostatic spray system that coats the cookware, then it’s baked in commercial ovens at very high temperatures. This allows the oil to penetrate deeply into the pores of the iron. This seasoning process achieves a seasoned finish that would take many months of home use to achieve. Sometimes during this process, the seasoning oil can collect and create a bubble or slight drip at the bottom of the pan as it’s hanging through the production process. And that in turn can turn brown as it’s processed through the seasoning ovens. This brown spot is not rust but in fact, carbonized seasoning and will darken with use. The factory seasoning process makes Lodge cast iron products ready to use right out of the box, and the product over time “Just keeps getting better”. After cooking, clean with a stiff nylon brush and hot water. Using soap is not recommended, and harsh detergents should never be used. Towel dry immediately and apply a light coating of oil to utensil while it is still warm. Cast Iron, like your grandmother used, still ranks as one of the best cooking utensils ever made. It gives you a nearly non-stick surface, without the possible harmful fumes generated by preheating chemically treated nonstick cookware. The American-based company, Lodge, has been fine-tuning its construction of rugged, cast-iron cookware for more than a century. Measures 8-inches in diameter and 2.875-inches deep. There are lots of fancy cookware materials out there but cast iron still trumps them all with its even heating, heat retention, price, and duration. Its these traits that make Lodge cookware favored by both indoor chefs and campfire cooks alike. The caveat is being able to lift cast iron cookware and, at 8 pounds, this serving pot will give most chefs a workout. The pot measures 8 inches in diameter and 2-7/8 inches deep and comes with a matching 8-inch iron cover. The pot arrives ready to simmer up to 2 quarts of baked beans, soup, or stew and goes right from stovetop to tabletop for serving. While it usually takes years of cooking to burn on the prized finish that makes cast-iron cookware smooth and stick-free, the Logic line of cookware comes pre-seasoned to save you some work. Cast iron pots in this line are coated in a vegetable oil, which is then baked on in a hot industrial oven to obtain that blackened patina and silky surface. Logic cookware has plenty of fans, including the editorial staff at Good Housekeeping, who cited it as one of the best new products of the year at the 2003 Good Buy Awards. --Cristina Vaamonde

  • This is NOT normal behaviour for cast iron cookware!
Size: 2 Quart Style: Oven
I purchased this Dutch oven with very high hopes for it, as I have two cast iron skillets and one cast iron griddle, and I'm in the process of replacing older cookware, which had been coated with nonstick surfacing materials that have long since come off. The skillets were originally my grandfather's, although he'd used them only briefly before they became too cumbersome for him to maneuver, and were not pre-seasoned. I've been using them exclusively for several years and have been able to build up fantastic seasoning on them, and have had no problems with them at all. The griddle was purchased two years ago, was pre-seasoned, and, like the skillets, has given me no issues at all, although I use it much less than the skillets. So, given my past experiences, I'd anticipated similar results from this Lodge Dutch oven. So, imagine my surprise (and ultimate disappointment) when I received it, washed it prior to use and according to the instructions, prepared my first meal in it...and had the meal, porridge, come out black. Although the porridge was edible, it was decidedly unappetizing to look at, and gave me pause about what may have been in the Dutch oven that could account for this and how that might affect the body of those who ingested it. I washed the Dutch oven, again according to the instructions, and noticed that upon drying the pot that there was black residue on the towel used to dry the pot. I thought that was odd, used hot soapy water, washed it again, and noticed the same. I've never had this happen before. I prepared kitchari (a mung bean and rice dish), which also took on a black tinge during preparation, rather than the traditional golden colour. Again it was edible, but off-putting in colour. I washed the pot a number of times, but continued to get the same black on the drying towel. Finally, I made black beans because it would not matter if they turned black. As you can see from the images uploaded, the pot looks quite clean, has no leftover food residue, but continues to blacken the drying towels used. This is NOT normal behaviour for cast iron cookware! I've just completed scouring the pot with kosher salt (as one might do to remove stuck on foods) in an effort to rid the pot of whatever it is that is making all foodstuffs cooked in it black, and the salt became black...and the towels still turn black. I'm at a loss to explain this, but I do know that I will not be purchasing pre-seasoned cast iron cookware from Lodge moving forward. I will purchase cast iron cookware that is not pre-seasoned from my local hardware store, because I know that while it will take some time to build up the level of seasoning I desire, I will not have black-tinged food in the meantime. I hope that I will be able to return this, and I would urge caution to anyone who considers purchasing this item. It it not my grandparents' and great-grandparents' cast iron cookware! ... show more

  • Exactly What I Wanted for Small Bread Loaves!!
Size: 2 Quart Style: Oven
This little gem is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I read a comment that it's smaller than it looks, but I was counting on that! I was looking for exactly this size to bake smaller loaves of Artisan bread. It produces a perfect little loaf for two people or gifts to neighbors. I've already ordered a second one. Cutest little Dutch oven ever.. LOL The bread recipe that fits this DO perfectly is one with a 3 cu. flour measurement. I added the photo with the dollar bill showing so you can get an idea of it's actual size. ... show more

  • Already in garbage bin
Size: 5 Quart Style: Double Dutch
I received this dutch oven about 10 days ago, read included usage and maintenance instructions and washed the oven by hands with just water and soft cloth, no soap or detergent. The first time I cooked in it, the oven got covered by rust inside, and food became grey and got black flakes in it. As was mentioned in instructions, I thought that the oven needs additional seasoning with vegetable oil. I cleaned the oven with water and cloth again, no detergent. Then let it dry and covered with olive oil inside and out. The next cooking gave the same result: rusty insides and dirty food that I had to throw away. My husband researched in the internet and found other people with similar problems. Some say that Lodge would do a better job if they didn't season their oven at all as this seasoning seems to be of not very high quality. In my case it was uneven, flaked away and didn't prevent from rust. After gathering some suggestions in the internet, my husband spent a whole evening trying to put a thicker seasoning over the oven: he put multiple layers of olive oil and kept the oven on the stove at middle temperature to let the seasoning stick. The next cooking again gave the same black-rusty results. In addition to that, leaving the warm oven lead on the table during cooking left a black circle on the surface that I can't wash away. And drying washed oven on the table left another rusty circle on the table that I also can't wash away. After all these highly disappointing experiences, I decided to throw away this oven before it destroyed my countertops completely. ... show more

  • Is it really lodge?
Size: 7 Quart Style: Oven
Wonder if this is really lodge. It is very light weight. Friend of mine had this same 7qt pot and it was a lot heavier. Also, notice chipping on lid right out of the box. Cast iron shouldn’t chip.

  • The best purchase I have ever made on Amazon!
Size: 5 Quart Style: Double Dutch
I wasn't planning on writing a review on this double dutch oven but when I used it once I ran and made this review. The dutch oven is pre seasoned well but I still had to give it my final touches by cleaning the factory oils off with warm water and a chainmail (best cleaner for cast iron hands down!), wipe it dry, let it completely dry in the oven for a few minutes while the oven was warm, then hit it with some olive oil to finish it off. After I did that the thing looked so awesome! My first cook was a honey white loaf. I just generously wiped some olive oil inside the Dutch oven and baked it. After it was done the loaf fell right out of the pan.when I turned it over, no parchment paper needed. This is hands down one of the best purchases I've made on Amazon! ... show more
