  • Great quality, great price.
This turned out to be a great purchase. This unit was a bit more than I needed but I chose it over lower capacity options because the price was comparable. Even so, there appears to be no sacrifice in quality; it’s very well-made. Tech support gets 5 stars because the setup and programming instructions this vendor provided in addition to the owners manual were very helpful. I’ve had the unit installed for about a week and it is working great. ... show more

  • Great unit at a fraction of the cost
Had a Culligan rep come in for a free, in home estimate for a new water softener. Was quoted $2500, our jaws hit the floor. After researching online and reading up about the other units available we decided on the AFWFilters. Installation was straight forward, outlined well in the installation instructions. We did decide on leaving all of the master programming settings alone as recommended, only changing the brine fill and capacity settings for our specific situation. The one major disappointment was the app. The control unit has a QR code that will show you information about your specific unit. After installing the app to my phone and scanning the QR code on the control unit, none of the documents were useful and or available. The instructions said that they would be available soon. As far as the performance of the unit, so far so good. According to the water hardness test strips, there is a distinct difference in treated vs. untreated water. We have felt a difference when washing and hope it protects appliances as well. ... show more

  • It’s worth it
I bought this a little over a year ago and here is my review one year later: First I had an old kenmore unit that no longer worked. My dishwasher would no longer clean the dishes and it became very annoying as I thought I needed a new dishwasher as well as a new softener. Then I read others complaints of hard water causing dishwashers to not clean so I decided to focus on the softener first. I bought this one and can honestly say that after a year it works great! I had a plumber install it because one of the valves on the 3/4 copper lines in the picture provided was slowly corroding and i needed to avoid a future leak. Anybody with some common handyman knowledge can install this softener themselves I just did not have any experience sweating copper pipes so while the plumber was here, he just installed and set up the fleck 5600 unit for me. As soon as a ran a regeneration cycle on my new unit, I ran the dishwasher on a cleaning cycle with white vinegar. After that, the dishwasher has never cleaned dishes better, Shower water feels better, etc. if you have hard water, a softener is worth it and from what I understand these units are better than the ones you find at the big box stores. ... show more

  • Good quality softener
Easy enough to install. The price is a little steep for a softener but I wanted something good quality that would last. It is a good quality product and I hope to get years out of it. Only two gripes I have about it is: • Power outages - You'll need to go reset the clock and possibly all of the settings at a power outage. Ours went out and I never checked it. The water started to get hard and I was beginning to wonder if it was even cycling. • Unused salt - the very bottom of the tank always has salt in it. It never gets used up. I know it is bad to add salt on top of old salt in the tank because it will dam up. I really have no choice because the hardness starts to creep up and I don't want to ruin the media. I'll probably get a ice fishing hole skimmer and remove the salt again and see what happens this time. ... show more

  • great value
We had wasted $5000 on just rental fees of a softener over 15 years. Finally I told them to come and get it because it wasn't worth it, they offered to sell the now 15 year old unit to me for $1000. This new unit is of better quality than that rental, amazing they can deliver it to my door at this price. Installation was easy for a DIY guy using PEX tubing, maybe $30 worth of stuff from Lowes, and $30 worth of salt to fill the brine tank. The only part of the programming I changed was to set our hardness PPM according to what the provided test strip showed, the rest seemed to be set good. This thing will pay for itself if it lasts 2 years, but it seems like there is no reason it won't go 20. ... show more

  • Great Product
This unit has worked great and am very happy I read several articles on soft water units, how to size them correctly to your house. Installing one of these doesn't require a PHD, but plan on it not being a fastest of installs, unless you are a darn good plumber. Pretty good instructions, videos on line from the company, easy to program. ... show more
