  • The softener was easy to install [a replacement for a worn out unit] ...
The softener was easy to install [a replacement for a worn out unit] and program. The most helpful part of the install was the video explaining installation and programing instructions sent by e-mail. Has only been in place a few weeks but am totally satisfied. Days after the install, we lost power in the house for 2 hours. After power was returned I discovered that the softener had indeed kept time by battery backup and was operating normally. The unit is a much higher quality product than those big-box units and only slightly more expensive. Easy to install, excellent support [the video], high quality product, good bang for your buck. Would buy again in a heartbeat, but don't expect to need to for a long time. ... show more

  • great value
We had wasted $5000 on just rental fees of a softener over 15 years. Finally I told them to come and get it because it wasn't worth it, they offered to sell the now 15 year old unit to me for $1000. This new unit is of better quality than that rental, amazing they can deliver it to my door at this price. Installation was easy for a DIY guy using PEX tubing, maybe $30 worth of stuff from Lowes, and $30 worth of salt to fill the brine tank. The only part of the programming I changed was to set our hardness PPM according to what the provided test strip showed, the rest seemed to be set good. This thing will pay for itself if it lasts 2 years, but it seems like there is no reason it won't go 20. ... show more

  • Tony the Tiger said it.....They're Great!
This unit replaced a smaller and under powered Culligan system at a fraction of the price. Very nice instructions on how to prep the unit for install, some pvc and sharkbite adapters and it was ready to go. The water tests come out with next to 0 hardness and we have had no issues with the system.

  • Pretty good softening system
Nice softener. I am a DIY guy with decent plumbing experience. This is the third softener I have installed, but the first that required me to add the resin to the softener. Overall adding the resin to the tank wasn't too bad, but did spill some while adding the 1 cubic foot bag. It would be nice if the resin was split into smaller bags to make handling easier. Also, the documentation was a little weak and a little confusing in a few places. I supplemented with some good videos on YouTube and the install went pretty smooth. The unit does a good job of softening. I highly recommend purchasing the Hach 5B hardness test kit #145300 here on Amazon to dial in the correct grains of hardness. The test strips I bought only gave me a range of hardness and did not give me an exact number. On the whole I'm pretty satisfied with this unit for the month that it has been in service. ... show more

  • Great unit at a fraction of the cost
Had a Culligan rep come in for a free, in home estimate for a new water softener. Was quoted $2500, our jaws hit the floor. After researching online and reading up about the other units available we decided on the AFWFilters. Installation was straight forward, outlined well in the installation instructions. We did decide on leaving all of the master programming settings alone as recommended, only changing the brine fill and capacity settings for our specific situation. The one major disappointment was the app. The control unit has a QR code that will show you information about your specific unit. After installing the app to my phone and scanning the QR code on the control unit, none of the documents were useful and or available. The instructions said that they would be available soon. As far as the performance of the unit, so far so good. According to the water hardness test strips, there is a distinct difference in treated vs. untreated water. We have felt a difference when washing and hope it protects appliances as well. ... show more

  • Instructions were great
We looked to purchase a whole house water softener system through a water treatment company, but they wanted way too much money. So we bought it online and the manufacturer did a great job with the directions. You have an installation manual and also a thumb drive to watch videos if you prefer. Unit comes pretty much together; you just have to plumb it. We decided to put this in our garage for safety reasons (don't want someone tampering with my water supply); so husband drilled a hold through concrete wall for the drain. We made a french drain for it. The unit cost me under $600 and just the cost of parts for pvc and a french drain. Water meter boxes make a great french drain because they come with lids already on them. ... show more

  • Did not one with the install kit it instructions to program.....
Just be aware that they probably won't send the install kit or the usb drive with instructions. I still don't know how to change the default settings and have not found a user or install Manuel... It works but the water is not soft enough.....I am disappointed

  • Salt saver!
This is hands down the best water softener i have ever installed. It cut my salt usage down 150% over an older timer model,
