This is a great product with insufficient guidance. To use this product correctly you need to understand that it is basically a lid on a pot. Water boils much faster when you cover a pot and cools when you uncover it. The same principle applies here. As long as you don't break the water surface the lid stays on. If you avoid swimming at night and turn off the pump at night the water will not cool so fast. Also during the day if your pool has a water feature turn that off too. This week we have had 50 degree nights and the temperature of the pool fell from 72 to 70 and when the sun hits it during the day the temperature climbed quickly (the high was about 78). In summary it is much easier to use as a solar cover and it does work as long as you understand how it works. ... show more

We used to cover our pool with a solar cover but it was very hard to roll up and manage. I didn’t believe this product could really do as well as a cover. So we setup a little test in our colder months. When the heater wasn’t running the temp dropped 5-10 degrees and it would take a long time to heat up (heat was lost while heating). Putting this film on within an hour the pool heated to desired temperature and stays very consistent any time of the day I check the temp. I am impressed and use this now weekly, and add after rains. If it is very cold this isn’t as effective as a pool cover especially if the temp is down to 40 or 50. ... show more

This has been an unusual spring, summer in Daytona Beach Fl. Temp below normal, until just this last week. And humidity well below normal for what we have always considered the tropics. Pool evaporation has been off the charts. Humidity usually hangs in the low 90s maybe high 80s this time of the year. Everyday I ask Alexa what's the humidity she says mid to low 70s. Other day while poring down rain I asked and Alexa said humidity 72. So looking for something to keep our water bill under control I decided to try this stuff. Did nothing. Still putting water in the pool every other day. Even tried double dosing, nothing. And yes we have thoroughly checked for leaks. Even had a professional come out. No leaks. I have a 15K gallon pool and 5K gallon jacuzzi, located in southern CA with a solar and gas heat. The pool receives about half-time direct sunlight on most days. (+): It does work and coats the surface of the pool. For 2-3 days, I can maintain a pool water temperature in the mid-70F range with overnights dropping into the high 40F to low 50F. Doesn't affect water quality or chemical balance and to the untrained eye, you wouldn't notice it being in there. (-): After about 3 days, my DE filter must remove all of this, as I can no longer see it staying on the surface and the pool temperatures drop quickly into the night. Additionally, in shallow waters (such as our baja shelf or top step), you can easily see the alcohol-layer and luminescence. It has a chemically-type appearance that I find a little annoying. Most people probably wouldn't notice, but it is noticeable, especially in direct sunlight. If you follow the dosing instructions, you should be good for 7-10 days, but in my experience, once you hit day 3, you need to re-dose. At that interval, the cost isn't worth it. Overall, if you're trying to maintain the temps for a few days without using your heater, this works, but it's definitely not cost effective beyond that. ... show more

The cost of water here in Colorado is quite high and the dry summer climate leads to incredible evaporation loss in my 15 x 30 ft kidney-shaped pool. I was seeing a 1.5" drop overnight and was looking at a way to save water and money. This Aqua Blanket does the job for me. It noticeably reduced my overnight water loss.
