The battery in my Tundra is getting past its life expectancy, and I had the opportunity to test this LiFePO4 car battery. The orientation of the terminals matched my Tundra, so I decided to give it a try. if that didn't work, it would become either a trolling motor battery for the jonboat or a secondary/accessory/house battery for the runabout. Installation was as easy as you'd expect -- swapping out a car battery isn't rocket science. The big V8 engine kicks over repeatedly without any hesitation. I did have to make sure that a start/stop battery could be used in a standard application. The answer is yes, but not the other way around. You don't want to use a regular battery in a start/stop application. The difference is that a start/stop battery has to be able to keep all the systems running in a vehicle that turns off the engine at red lights or extended stops, and then it has to be able to start the engine again much more frequently than a typical or traditional vehicle would require. This means it needs to be able to handle many more charge/discharge cycles in addition to deeper discharges, while retaining enough energy to crank the engine. That's a different set of requirements that your typical lead-acid battery can't deliver, at least not for long. This battery does have the added features of a built-in voltmeter and display of percentage of charge remaining. Those can be turned off to eliminate the little drain they'd put on the battery if left on for extended periods. That's something a standard lead-acid unit certainly doesn't have. Time will tell how this battery holds up, but I'm really excited to have this in the truck, saving a bit of weight and giving me newer technology along with added visibility into the health of my battery.
