Do NOT use play sand, get landscaping sand or concrete mix sand, it still took approx 3/4 hours to fill with the largest funnel we could find and a thin metal rod to poke through when it got backed-up but had we used play sand, it would have easily taken double that. The directions aren’t the greatest but my husband has built many basketball hoops throughout his life and was able to figure out the gray areas. So the installation was fairly straightforward. There was at least one step where so had to look at the video instructions because the paper instructions where confusing, and I’m a capable handyman. I also thought it would be nice if the manufacture was clear about the amount of sand to put in it as it would have saved me an extra trip to Ace Hardware. For those wondering, it took exactly 300lbs of construction sand to fill the base. To the previous reviewer who said to use construction sand I have nominated you for Sainthood because it saved me about two hours versus the last time I filled a base with fine playsand. So far, I have used the adjustment handle once to lower it one step down from the top and it was super easy to use. Assembly will require two people for some steps, or someone with four arms. Do yourself a favor and bring a socket set to the assembly party. I had to drill out the holes on the adjustable handle rod so the bolts would fit. For a younger kids basketball goal, this is all you need.

This hoop works well for my kids who play every day. We used ground screws and straps to secure it into the ground by the driveway after watching YouTube videos. That way we could use water and not worry as much about it tipping. I have had it for several months and it endured a hurricane and it is still in great shape. There is a coil that hooks to the backboard and it worked one way to have it adjusted to lower setting but needed to be moved to adjust it to 10 feet - so that took a bit of time to figure out. Like others reviews said, set up/assembly was tough. The instructions are bad, per se. They are just a bit tough to follow at times, with small (important) details not being clearly called out. Several times, after we had assembled a part, I realized we either did it wrong (backwards), or forgot to put in a washer because it wasn't clearly marked in the drawings. If you look closely, its there, but the level of concentration this took was not expected. The hoop itself is high quality. Although I suspect that the adjustment mechanism will become sticky and/or problematic over time. The backboard does have some "wobble" to it when you bank a shot. But, again, for the money, it's a sturdy, well designed hoop. Adding sand to the base was a chore, too. We had to open up one of the teeny, tiny holes to enlarge it enough to get sand to go in. Otherwise, it just kept getting jammed up. The manufacturer should bore a larger hole for sand in the base as part of the manufacturing process, in my opinion. Once we got all the sand in (a process that took about an hour), it is heavy and sturdy. ... show more

You’ll need a couple hours to put this together but in the end it’s sturdy and was straight forward to put together. Make sure you have either sand or water to weigh down the base ahead of time to make for an easier install.
