I was a little apprehensive about doing of the installation myself but if you follow the steps, you can do it pretty easliy. Also, if you do it yourself, you are in total control and don't have to rely on an installer. We got to just over 40" deep for the hole... do what you can and try to do at least that deep. Took about 8-9 bags of concrete. We set ours back an extra fifteen or so inches from the driveway because of a water line we found. Definitely be careful when you dig and have your yard marked beforehand with utilities 811 before you dig. Even then, they can miss something, we found. So be careful. But overall it just takes a bit of time and if you have a teenager to dig, that helps! We mixed the concrete bag by bag with a shovel in a plastic bin and steel lawn rake and that worked well for us. Had Lowes delivery the concrete to our house. Once you pour, insert the rebar and then adding base plate assembly is pretty cool. Use a small magnetic high-quality level to make sure the base plate is flat in both axes (and it will also help you check the balance of the pole). We used 2 x 4 wood bars to prop up the final post assembly to lift it up onto the threads and minimize the chance we could damage the threads. Assembly was pretty easy with two people. We mounted the backboard with two of us on a truck bed and a third to install and it was no problem. Watch the videos first from Goalrilla. Alas, our basketball hoop is assembled. The pole, backboard, rim, hoop and height actuator are of solid construction. The cement anchoring system is sturdy with rebar, threaded j-bolts, and pole leveling/plumb adjustment. The backboard is solid and heavy. It takes a sturdy footing and pole to support it - this pole does. The height adjustment is smooth and easy for youngsters to adjust. Get ready to burn some calories installing this. With digging a 4ft deep hole 18 inches wide, mixing enough concrete to fill it and muscling the sturdy backboard into place, you'll put your body to work. Good, solid, get stronger work - nothing wrong with that. Overall, nice system with sturdy manufacturing, attractive appearance and great playability. This hoop has presence and looks attractive. I give that 5 stars. Shipping, logistics trouble, some damage in shipping and incorrect assembly instructions - I give that 3 stars. Though Amazon and the seller, Escalade Sports, made that right. We were looking at purchasing a Goalrilla basketball system for a few years now. The newer GS54 seems to be of the same quality as the older models and though it's a little cheaper than the old series it feels rock solid. Either way, we finally decided to pull the trigger and get it in place for a recent party. Assembly is pretty easy but the instructions are a little off on the amount of concrete it says is needed. We went through 12 x 80lb bags of Quickrete and we dug our hold according to specs so word of advice buy extra concrete. Two more bags should not cost you more than an additional $10 so save yourself some hassle. I had 10 bags mixed (2 at a time) and poured them into the hole before finding out I needed two more!!! Good thing is I am minutes away from Home Depot. Outside of that I managed to get the pole up myself and bolted and to get the rim up I backed my pickup up to the post and hefted the backboard onto the mounting arm while my wife put the bolts on. You'll probably be better off with 2-3 people to help with that step but I had to try it myself. Final result is an absolutely great basketball system that plays like a professional system! ... show more

In the words of my 11 year old: "It's amazing!" We just got this at Amazon, it arrived quickly (through one of their sellers) and was in perfect condition. The install is similar to what everyone described here - my husband did it over the course of a week or so due to our schedules. Because we had read the reviews here, he bought more concrete than the instruction called for - about 10 bags which worked perfectly. The system's been up for about 1 week and is great - very little shake, plays like a professional system. We have an 11 year old son and 10 year old daughter who both love to play and this system is great, expect it will grow with them through the years. My husband's been shooting on it too and has commented on how awesome it is! We had a Lifetime portable system that was 15+ years old - so shaky (and loud when they shot!) and in hindsight should have been replaced long ago. This new net is sturdy and expect it will remain that way for years. Great price on Amazon - consistent or lower than the big box stores. I took a while to decide what to get and where because I couldn't "see" it and see how sturdy it was so didn't want to spend that kind of money if not sturdy. If you're thinking of buying, go see in the store, if necessary and buy here - the store display isn't that great so you really can't get a feel for truly how sturdy it will be when setup until you actually see one that is installed properly in the ground. But I can assure you, there is very little shake when they are shooting. Love it! ... show more
