  • Perfect water filter pitcher for one
Color: White
A very recent purchase, but I love it so far. I cleaned every component as instructed, filtered one batch through the membrane (then dumped), added the carbon filter, and filtered another batch of water (then dumped), all before filtering water for drinking. Yes, it filters slowly. The rate suits my needs perfectly, however. First night, over the course of the evening, I added and filtered water until the carafe was full for the morning. When I pour a glass, I replenish the reservoir and filter more. I use it to have drinking water on hand throughout the day. The water tastes great! The glass carafe looks beautiful, too. I am pleased with the design and the quality. ... show more

  • Improving the quality and safety of potable water the easy way
Color: Pebble
I bought this product to ensure that the family drinking water is as safe as it can possibly be. The drinking water where I live is river sourced. The problem with this is that we are all aware of declining potable water quality arising from toxins and increasing water temperatures. I also have a sediment and chemical reducing water pitcher for cooking and the pets. As for the LifeStraw glass pitcher, after assembly and following the use instructions I did not experience any of the leaks or problems I read in other reviews. It works as intended. The water is impeccably clean and I trust reducing microorganisms. Great tasting water too! As for the comments concerning slowness, the filter system is indeed SLOW. It takes about 30 minutes for the water cone to drain. What I do to compensate for this is to keep the pitcher topped up by refilling after a glass or two of water to avoid running out. As I said the alternate water pitcher is used for cooking and pets and is a fast fill for this purpose. I have used other inline systems for water purity and find the LifeStraw is easier and cheaper to maintain. I would not hesitate to buy this product again. I will be adding a LifeStraw hiking filter to my vehicle travel kit. Finally, I appreciate what the company does in bringing potable water filters to problematic countries and thus accept the slowness. For a good clip on this subject watch Dan Becker's YouTube trip to Africa with the LifeStraw Program. ... show more

  • Slowly makes good tasting water
Color: White
Good: This is more attractive than the other pitchers I've used, and nicer to have on the counter. The water comes out tasting good. And so far, tea made with the water from it is fine, although I haven't tested it thoroughly yet (only one tea session so far). I also like that I can fill it without having to remove anything or flip anything up--the little fill flapper moves down automatically when you pour into it. And I like that the purchase supports safe drinking water for people around the world. But: You can't see how close the reservoir is to getting full because it's not transparent. And you can't track the progress of water through the filter because the reservoir has no window and is not transparent. I have to push down on the little filling flapper to see how much water is in it. If you try to pour from it too soon after filling, the unfiltered water in the reservoir comes out. This is common in such pitchers, but again....most have transparent reservoirs so that you can judge when you can pour without this happening. The reservoir is only 2 cups, and the capacity is 10 cups, so you have to fill it 5 times for one full pitcher of filtered water. And, as many reviews have stated, it's really really really slooooowwwwww to filter. I am hoping that it will speed up a bit with time--this was hinted at in some other reviews. Other: Can't really speak to ease of cleaning yet; I do think the glass of the pitcher will avoid the algae/scratch problem that plagues the plastic pitchers--where scrubbing to remove spots of algae creates scratches that encourage algae growth. And preventing that on the plastic parts is probably why the reservoir parts are not transparent. But that does lead to it's own problems as stated above. I'll addend and revise this as I spend more time with it. ... show more

  • BETTER than Brita and PUR
Color: White
Why is it better than Brita and PUR? For starters, it's a glass pitcher and not plastic. The glass is very similar to Pyrex quality grade glass but just a bit thicker. Because of this, the pitcher does get heavy when it is full of water. Second, most water filters filter out everything including the essential minerals found in water like magnesium and potassium that the human body actually needs to help sustain good health and hydration. The filtration system (which is a 2-stage system) removes bacteria, parasites and microplastics that have been found in some water sources. In addition, it greatly reduces any lead, mercury and over 30 other types of chemicals that have been classified as "forever chemicals" (look into these further and you will be shocked as to what they are, trust me!) Third, the 2-stage filtration system that it uses (microfilter and activated carbon plus ion exchange filter) is what makes it so unique. This system is what actually helps make whatever water you filter through taste better. Just as a note, the microfilter is good for 1 year or 260 somewhat gallons of water. The activated carbon plus ion exchange filter is good for about 2 months or 40 gallons of water. Yes, it is pricier than a Brita or PUR water filter pitcher. But the benefits you get will from a Lifestraw water filter pitcher definitely outweighs the price. I've used it when making regular hot coffee or tea and cold brew coffee or tea and it really has made a difference in the overall taste and after taste of each drink. ... show more
