    • Be aware if you're using this for more than one Region....

Review Image by R R
If you are just using this as a Blu Ray Disc reader for your local region Blu Rays, it works great, and comes with software that you can use to play the Blu Ray Discs. As I am a software developer and have used a lot of different softwares similar to this in the past, I can't really speak on it's ease of use. I didn't have any problems with it other than the region lock issue I mention below. It does require 2 USB ports to run, so if you have a limited number of those you may need a hub to use the drive. The end that plugs into the disk drive is a Micro USB. If you are planning on using this for more than one region, the out of the box software will only let you change the region 5 times. In order to change the region the first time in their software (PowerDVD 18), I had to delete the region file, otherwise it would not let me change the region despite there being a settings menu to change the region (the region setting itself was grayed out until I removed the file). If you are more technical, you may be able to get around the change limit using registry changes or modifying the file that stores the Blu Ray Region. There is more information on doing that online. Side note, the software that the drive comes with is not the most recent version of the software. Mine came with PowerDVD 18 (along with some other software listed in the screenshot. I did not install all of the software available through the installer, so there are a few more options available.) It does also come with a firmware update, but that update cannot be applied while there is a disk in the drive, so if you use the disk drive to install the software, it will tell you it failed to update the firmware. You can also download the firmware update through their website, but not the software due to "licensing restrictions". ... show more

    • Short lifespan

Well, this one only lasted 1year & 2 weeks. I'm a prolific user and typically get 3-4 years out of a BD/DVD/CD writer. This one not so much as one of the lenses is already burned out. I guess I'll need to go back to a higher end one.

    • Good, but not for library/rental discs (vibration + error on discs with RFID stickers)
Style: Writer
I think these drives are excellent values, mine worked out of the box great. The one I got was manufactured in Sept 2022, so this is new stock. The drive functioned well and was quiet, but I ultimately returned it because most of the blu-rays I was renting from my local library were vibrating (causing LOUD noises) and erroring-out due to the anti-theft sticker they applied (Stingray?) The drive is simply too slim to play some blu-rays with stickers, which is what most libraries have. HOWEVER, it did work fine with all my personal "stickerless" blu-ray discs, hence the strong rating. Pros: -Super slim (also a con but I will get to this later) -Worked with standard blu-rays out of the box -TECHNICALLY possible to cross-flash the firmware to play/read 4k discs (you will have to flash to an unencrypted 1.02 standard firmware, and then cross-flash to the BP60NB10 1.00 FW.) -Very acceptable read speeds if you are backing-up any discs -Decent price (80-90$) CONS -Will not work with any rental/library discs that use RFID stickers to prevent physical theft due to how thin the housing is. Bluray discs start vibrating at about 1x speed and start clipping the top of the drive housing. (Funny enough, applying light/medium pressure to the sides allows room for the vibrations to occur and discs will play just fine, but you have to have your hand on it the entire time.) -Flimsy inner tray is a two/three piece sliding mechanism that always sags and feels bad to pull discs off of. (although it's probably fine) -The noise at normal read speeds is good, but higher read speeds and ANY imbalance or raised stickers on the disc will cause horrible noise and errors. CONCLUSION Overall, I recommend this drive if you know that you will ONLY be attempting to read blu ray discs that are non-rental/library (no stickers). Maybe for someone looking to back-up their personal collection, but not for the family movie night while borrowing from a local library. ... show more

    • Easy to Use
Style: Writer
I bought this drive to access data stored on BluRay discs. I connected it to my computer with the provided cord, popped in the disc, and was able to access the data. I cannot speak to it's ability to play BluRay movies although I may attempt to set that up in the future.

    • Exactly what I needed for a very reasonable price!
Style: Writer
Having amassed a fair number of expensive and/or collectible audio box sets; I wanted something that would allow me to reliably back up my investment without spending a small fortune. This burner fit the bill, perfectly. Upon connecting this external drive to my PC, and deciding which sample software I wanted to use; I was off to the races. As I am performing my backups in my leisure time, this unit does the job at a 'more than satisfactory' speed. My only complaint would be that the enclosed literature was very basic: at one point leading me to fear I would need an auxiliary power something in order for the unit to operate properly. Thankfully, this turned out NOT to be the case. Considere a very satisfied customer! ... show more

    • Better RIPPER than PLAYER
Style: Writer
I bought this to watch Blu Rays on my new 4K computer monitor. It works for that, but not perfectly. It's loud with weird whines when it first starts reading a disc. This goes away and it's much quieter once a movie starts, but it will occasionally have a read problem where your movie stutters. So I don't love this for watching movies, but it's been great at reading and ripping them to my hard drive. I also haven't tried burning any discs with it, since I have no need to (and likely never will). If you want a decent player for watching movies on your computer, prepare to pay triple what this one costs. Had I done a little more research, I'd have gone for a much higher-end (and much more expensive) player. ... show more
