  • A 4k UHD Upgrade to my standard 1080p model I have been using for years.
Style: Optical Drive Pattern Name: DVD Writer
I have the standard blue ray version of this drive and it works like a champ. And so does this one. I have no issues with build quality and the drive works great. You are going to have to flash the firmware to be able to back up your media. I like to put all my movies on a dlna server at full quality and this does just that. Ripping speed is reasonable and playback is perfect. Installation is a breeze, just 2 usb connection for stable power and use. I really like this drive as it can be mounted vertically. ... show more

  • Awesome blu ray player!
Style: Optical Drive Pattern Name: DVD Writer
Works like a charm! Plugged it straight to my PC and steam deck, plays dvds and blu rays very well. I enjoy how slim the blu ray player is and how quiet it operates once it starts playing the film. Highly recommend.

  • Good product but overheats.
Style: Optical Drive Pattern Name: DVD Writer
Bought the drive when I heard that LG were pulling out of the Blu-Ray drive market and wanted one. The drive works very well but you need to be very careful not to use for extended periods of time because it then overheats and starts having read errors. Still would buy this again if need too.

  • Good drive, one caveat
Style: Optical Drive Pattern Name: DVD Writer
When I received the drive today, there was no surrounding box or cushioning. Someone slapped a shipping label on the OEM box and dropped it in the mail. The box took some damage, but fortunately it did not reach the contents. The drive itself is very compact and quite attractive. The power/data connection is microUSB. The included cable has double USB-A connectors. Some computers do not supply enough juice to run the unit by itself, so there is a second USB connector just for power. I plugged mine into a USB-C adapter, and it runs just fine without a need for the second plug. The drive seems to function just fine. It has read and played Blu-ray disks, DVDs, and an audio CD. I have burned a data DVD with Toast 20, and it functioned just fine (write speeds ran from 4x to 7x, which is excellent). It read from an UHD 4K disk just fine, but could not play the movies. This problem is because of the lack of software for 4K disks for the Mac. It will play 4k files just fine, but the two major software packages for playing Blu-rays on Mac don't yet handle 4K Blu-ray disks yet. Leawo says a future update will address this. Macgo player doesn't say anything yet. One issue: this little drive is noisy at times. When playing or burning disks it's relatively quiet. When spinning up or down or moving the head around, it can be quite noisy. Still, I'm happy I bought it. My experience with it is short, but so far, so good. ... show more

  • Gail (Giant fAIL)
Style: Optical Drive Pattern Name: DVD Writer
I own three Laptops. It will not work with Linux. Apparently, there is a somewhat complicated work around. The Laptop I bought in July does not have a n optical disc player. I thought I could use this, but windows 11 won't inspire it to do anything. It powers up and I can see the movie files, but it won't play the movie. The enclosed disc does not work. I feel like I have been time warped back to the ancient days of "plug and pray." I purchased this to turn my old (2004) Laptop into a Media Player which has a DVD recorder. It has dual boot Windows 7 and Linux. I intended to use it with Linux because it is more stable than Windows, it runs faster than Windows, and it takes up less disc space than Windows, there is no license, key or activation, I don't need to provide my personal information and Linux is free as well as a great deal of software. My recent Windows purchase required nearly every piece of my personal information. Trackers will provide the rest of the information. It had been ten years since my last new computer, so I thought it was a good idea to buy a new one. I can make this work, but the average person would have trouble. For my equipment, it doesn't work out of the box. I have owned and used computers since 1983. I also have a degree in computer programming. It is the criminals in the world that has forced manufacturers and and software creators to make this difficult. I just wanted to have something to watch during my move to another state. ... show more

  • Best drive I've ever had!!
Style: Optical Drive Pattern Name: DVD Writer
This is the best drive I've ever used. It worked perfectly the first time! It even came with free software to play Blu Ray discs and dvd's. Most pc's don't have the apps to play those. I love this drive! It has never messed up thus far. The only negative thing I would state is that Amazon just slapped a shipping label on the box and sent it out. I'm surprised this wasn't damaged or stolen seeing that anyone could see what it was. Thankfully, I have a trustworthy delivery man with UPS. Other than that, the drive is perfect!! ... show more

  • works great with makemkv after firmware flash for 4k rips
Style: Optical Drive Pattern Name: DVD Writer
with a firmware flash, this drive works very well with makemkv to rip 4k blurays. not a bad dvd/standard bluray player for PC either. i've had some issues with reading discs, but only on dirty/scratched ones or cheap releases (like my $10 austin powers bluray collection).

  • Works with MakeMKV for UHD 4K discs after firmware flash
Style: Optical Drive Pattern Name: DVD Writer
I bought mine used, and it came looking new, with all the cables and software, was packed in the original box, just like it was when new. Without flashing the firmware it would rip standard BluRays with MakeMKV. In order to rip a 4K UHD I had to flash the firmware, which was simple and quick and the instructions and code for the terminal are all there on a YouTube video one of the firmware guys from MakeMKV made. Go to the MakeMKV forum to get the firmware files, download the one that's name is, "The all you need firmware pack". After unzipping it you will see the one for this LG drive. First 4K disc I tried didn't work on ripping, they said clean disc even though it was new and had never been played. I tried the Oppenheimer 4K UHD disc that had just gotten delivered, ripped fine, then I encoded it with Handbrake, then stored it on my Plex server "Asustor AS6702T". This drive wasn't noisy or any of that, glad I got it so now I can put 4K movies on my server. ... show more
