Everything about this product is fine. BUT, I couldn't get my Win 10 system to recognize it. I use a USB hub (since I have more USB devices than ports on the back of my PC) for peripherals like a keyboard, mouse, webcam, etc. When I tried connecting this DVD reader through the HUB (both with the extra power and without) my Windows 10 PC didn't recognize it. The device had power but the DVD drive itself wasn't showing up in the file manager, device manager, or "my computer". THEN, I tried connecting this DVD/CD player directly to a USB port on my PC and it worked perfectly. I think the driver just needs to talk more 'directly' the external DVD player and the hub confuses the driver. ... show more

Oops lol I don’t really know much about computers so I didn’t realize this could not burn CDs which is what we originally wanted but now my daughter is able to use this in school to listen to her CDs while she’s working and doing her independent work. She is 14 and really into music these daysand started collecting CD players, so this was an accident. And started collecting CD players so this was an accident. It works well we’ve not tried using this. We have not tried using this for other types of CDs, but works really well with CDs. Also plays CDs. I could not get the external DVD drive to work or recognize my newer PC. After several hours I became frustrated and looked at sending it back. Amazon sent me an email from the seller with additional instructions. I could not find anything on their website or any other place. The detailed instructions helped me uninstal old driver software and the unit installed the new. It finally worked. I include the instructions below. *Method 1:Check external connections 1. Use the Typle A and Typle c cables on the back of the machine to connect the laptop (the cable comes with the package is only for current transmission, not for data transmission) 2. Connect the machine to other USB ports *Method 2: Update or reinstall the driver Drivers for your CD, DVD drive is included within the Operating System and hence does not require you to install a specific driver. Uninstalling the driver and restarting the computer will reinstall the driver which will resolve most issues related to the device driver. To reinstall the driver, follow these steps: Step 1: Press the Windows logo key + R to open the Run dialog box. Step 2: Type devmgmt.msc in the Run dialog box, then press Enter. Step 3: In Device Manager, expand DVD/CD-ROM drives, right-click the CD and DVD devices, and then select Uninstall. Step 4: When you are prompted to confirm that you want to uninstall the device, select OK. Step 5: Restart the computer. I do have issue with ports not always working without reporting after a sleep cycle, and it would be nice to have a motorized tray. But honestly, for the price, where are you going to get a better deal? It also is doing a great job at error reading old discs I am currently importing that my external mac $100 SuperDrive cannot read. So kudos to the makers.
